What was most shocking to me here, was finding out how little you all played together, like Grace saying she never played with these people, and Brendan, Guy and Maurice, played like once. I figured Grace and Brendan were very close as much as they worked together on backstories, same with Scott and Maurice with the backstories. It also felt Maurice and Brendan had that kind of butting heads relationship going that only long time friends would come up with. And there is so much trust between the players and Guy that it felt like you all had been playing for years and decided for the next campaign, you would upload it to youtube and see if you can't make some content out of it.
It's very rare for a group to just gel the way you have, even at the first episode, it felt to me like this group is special. I have played in a few groups, and have been watching people on youtube playing D&D since 2013, and this has to be the best group I have seen or played in. Since the start, everyone was contributing, everything was interwoven, nobody stood out, nor stayed in the background. For a new group, I would have expected Guy, Maurice and Brendan to be more comfortable from the start since they played with each other before, while Grace and Scott would be more reserved, at least until they got more familiar with the group.
Usually, watching a new group, it takes a few episodes for the players to get comfortable and find a grove. You can really watch them go from an awkward party of players trying to figure things out, to getting more comfortable, and I kind of give them a few episodes to watch where it goes, but with this group there were no real growing pains, it started off working well, and still is working well.

It's kind of you to say these things, and I agree it is a rare moment when everyone is in sync and working as a team. I think it's because we all love the game, and there is tons of inter-game chatter. Communication is key and everyone communicates beautiful with everyone else in-game and out of game.

@HowtobeaGreatGM Guy, It's also a credit to your GMing skills for choosing these particular people. They all have such great chemistry. I became an instant fan of the show sir. You have done well as a GM. I salute you. 🫡

I was absolutely stunned to find out that you all hadn’t been playing together for the last 15 years. The players get along so well and play so well off of each other that I was sure that you guys have been playing together for a long while

This game rivals the best online D&D live action shows. Everyone is so genuine, fun-loving and relatable. Both in gameplay and in real life. Thank you all so much for just showing every role-player and DM, this is how you can do it without the Matt Mercer effect!

I usually don't listen to these types of videos...I rather the adventure, but I'm 9:23 in and my brain is still stuck on people not liking Scott's Avery character! I thought he was excellent! I had no issue with any well a bit off when Dorin made a deal, but now it seems he might be saved. I also like that he (Dorin) feels guilt from a childhood error. That explains things tremendously. Alright, I think I'll finish listening... go on... great group story telling....

I heartily agree with all of the positive feedback being given to this wonderful band of players and their accomplished DM! I too believe this to be some of the best gameplaying i have seen on this platform by a country mile. I only wish it was reaching a broader audience!! With that in mind it does strike me that liking and subscribing is NEVER mentioned in any of the game play episodes which is a shame as this is the only thing that will grow the channel, ensure its success and thereby allow these episodes be seen by more viewers.
I wouldnt for a second expect this to happen once play commennces but it would be such a simple thing to mention at the start and end of each episode and would remind us religious watchers to do our bit for this fantastic troop of players in ensuring that this channel stays around and that we get to continue to enjoy your top notch DM-ing and gaming.

This was lovely to watch / listen to. (Also wonderful to see Grace again!) I for one would love to have more of these now and then, even if it means waiting another week for the next episode.
Also, who disliked Avery as a character? As a person, sure; especially in the beginning, he was a bit of a prick. As a character, though, he’s wonderful!

Too few and far between are the games, live plays - whatever these are called, where all of the players, I include the GM as a player, are likeable and fun. Not to mention characters that are engaging and deep along with a compelling story. Frankly, I am shocked that these don't get more views. Do me a solid and keep making these forever. Thanks.

I'm loving the show and the characters. All at the table seem to get along really well and I'm so jealous of Brendon and Maurice for having gone to D&D in a Castle. That's on my To-do list, but explaining to the wife that I want to spend $5000 to go play D&D is a daunting task.

Oddly, I wasn't going to go because I thought it was crazy to pay that kind of money for a game of D&D, but it was my wife who convinced me to go! She is, of course, a legend.

@@M.J.Larkin you hold on to her. She is a treasure :). I've tried getting my wife into D&D, but no luck just yet, so I'm pinning my hopes on my 3 year old daughter. Also, are your books available on a platform other than Amazon? I'm currently living in China and it's a pain buying anything off of Amazon (it being blocked and all).

@TravelingSAfrican best I can do is email you a pdf copy, which would mean you putting your email up here, unleashing a barrage of bots to assail you! Will you take the risk? Go to Entry 36455. Do you flee and return to the safety of anonymity? Go to entry 46883 😁

How do you find / choose your players and how long a campaign will last?

    • @HowtobeaGreatGM
      @HowtobeaGreatGM  4 дня назад +3

I go to conventions and run games. Anyone who seems to 'get' my style of GMing I invite to play round the table. Sometimes I do a one-shot and invite friends and friends of friends to join in. Then see who is a match and go from there. As for how long the campaign will last, that's up to you to read the players. If they're having fun, and you're having fun, why make it short?

    My comment part 2.
OMG who says it doesn't make sense? Have they read any books?!
Anyway Grace, you're a beautiful woman...I know you said girl maybe because you have a girlish charm about you. I just prefer WoMan to girl as a descriptor. Anyway, I'm taking mental notes from you Guy for my next campaign...or extended. Atm I'm running my own written adventure I sort of call The Legand of Jingjue...it's sort of set in Kara-Tur but my version of it. They Finnish part one, "Devil-Eye" and now they are in part 2, "the yi stone" then I have the "black hole" part 3 ready. Once that's done I wanted to give them a chance to play epic! I thought they could go on a quest to save Medusa. My plan is to simply watch a move or two to refresh my memory on the tale of Perseus. Maybe they'll be clever enough to save the city and Madusa but their job will be to bring her alive to their paying sponsor. I figure I just need to have the villains ready.
Anyway looking forward to next show!

I'm from Ireland. If I don't swear every 15 seconds, they revoke my passport. In a word, if I'm on the show, there's going to be swearing. If that's not for you, so be it.
