Absolutely awesome information as always. Little Liberty Boss keeps you very busy but she is absolutely adorable. You and your family have a beautiful and blessed holiday season.
Also forgot to mention but I use the GE grow lamps they are a little costly but I have had mine for at least 15 years and they are in my green and they keep on going !! Thanks again for the video !!
Before the days of LED lighting, I set Mom up with florescent lighting for her plants. I used Four - 40W 48" long bulbs per 2' x 4' light fixture. That worked out to 1,100 lumens per square foot. I installed daylight color spectrum bulbs. I measured the light produced with a light meter and it was equivalent to the light produced on an overcast day. Mom started 1,200 plants from seed every year. My Moms plants were not the least bit spindly and were vastly superior to those same plants at a nursery. These days it would be silly to use florescent lighting because it uses over double the amount of electricity that LED lighting uses. You can also find LED lighting in any color spectrum. There are also LED tubes that will directly replace florescent light bulbs in existing light fixtures. "Type A" LED bulbs work with the existing ballast, just plug in and play. "Type B" LED bulbs are made for direct wiring to 120 VAC so you need to remove the ballast. The ballast wastes about 5% of the energy so it's good to eliminate it if you have the know how. "Type A+B" LED bulbs will work with either a ballast, or they can be directly wired to 120 VAC for better efficiency. But not all LED bulbs are equal and the light output (Rated in Lumens) varies dramatically. So check the Lumen rating on the LED bulbs before you buy them.
I raked all my leaves from my large yard a few years and that totally sucked. Leaving them kinda sucked for the spring. Now I mow the leaves in the late fall to mulch them up and it works well.
Have you tried using paper egg cartons. for seed trays? I tend to have many. When the home audio studio got "cancelled", I quit saving so many of them. Uncoated cardboard and leaves are both good for adding organic matter (water retention and soil loosening). We have dense clay-rich soil! Pulverized charcoal also.
OMG!! LT had on shoes! First time I've ever seen that Lil Sprout not barefooted. She's growing fast. Love the videos. Keep up the good work. It is sooo refreshing seeing younger people interested in self reliance and the outdoors instead of being addicted to video games and instabook and snaptweet.
Back in the day, office greenery was always happy and healthy with all those florescent lights, I was waiting for you to bring that up, So nice to see Liberty toddler mimicking mom's gesturing, too cute.
Instead of raking up Mom's leaves, I mowed them up with a bagging lawnmower. The mower would chop the leaves into smaller pieces that seemed to lock together better and not be as prone to blowing away when used for mulch. Also, it's easier for the perennials to push their way up through the chopped up leaves in the spring.
We build our own seed notebooks. I pick up zippered 3 ring binders every year when they drop the price (after school starts). Fill them up with dollar tree zippered pencil pouches. You can go real cheap and use ziploc bags with holes punched for pages but they rip out easily. I've compared grow lights and just warm white shop lights and honestly couldn't tell the difference. IMHO grow lights are just a marketing thing to get more money. One of my small green houses still has them in it but once they go out I'm not buying any more. The other 2 houses has 4 foot shop lights on timers and they produce just as well. It might matter in "some plants" but not any of my veggies.
I would work on my car in my garage😮 I would put my daughter in the playpen with all sorts of toys kept her busy for hours then I would look over at the playpen and she'd be laying there sleeping away it's a nice for her😂❤😅😅
Seeds should be on sale now as they're trying to push out their 2023 stock. I've seen year after year Home Depot drops the price of Miracle Grow garden soil to just over $2 a bag. Seed binder? OMG, where has this been all my life! Just ordered!!!
Absolutely awesome information! 😍It was a great idea to be part of a winter shopping list and we really liked how you featured it with the rest of the products. Lovely seeing your little helper, it was so cute! 🥰 Would it be possible to include a discount code in your description?
Maybe what I'm calling "clover" and what you are calling "clover" are two different things. My stuff is got to about 5 or 6 inches high. That has to be mowed.

Clover is a good ground cover. It fixes nitrogen in the soil (like beans)! Mostly winter is a time for planning and buying.

That definitely helps. We don't have a mower so we just leave them for now or blow them into composting areas

I haven't tried them, no. Good tip!

Yeap grow lights are only needed if growing to flowering, fruiting or veggie stage. Seedlings, lettuce and herbs only need a cheap shop light.
Wonderful to see how far you have come. From refugee of the communist north. To a true lady of the south. God bless.

Mama Lib, when did you start this channel? Glad to see Baby Libs with ya
Thank you! July or August maybe? End of summer, which was terrible timing, but it took me that long to record and edit the first few videos lol
@@libertyhomestead oh! It's been a bit though. I'm slacking and didn't realize until today. Shame on me

Right? I had never thought of it either and then saw one somewhere, don't even know where, and thought it was brilliant
You paint as well ? Would you mind showing us a sample ?

Just added it!
LD is the BEST!

Liberty Homestead , try a double plastic greenhouse ( a small one ) so you can grow them in the sun , outside the reach of Baby Godzilla. 😂
Haha that's on my future list! I was thinking of hoop houses this season too but just didn't have the time
