There's uses for the equipment but for a lot of producers you can do everything you need easily in daw. I only really see mixing and mastering engineers occasionally use outboard gear

If you know the scale of a song your 808s should never be out of tune with the beat. That's why yours was like that as well. Invest some time into learning about music, it's easy.
