    The key of C is very important for tuba players, most college programs require us to learn CC tuba. Although I would say it's safe to say they didn't include the key swap ability for this reason.

    As someone who's played the trombone for 9+ years, now, the key of C is definitely an important key to be able to switch to. Baritones, Euphs, Tubas, and Trombones all play in it. I get that Bb and F are important for trumpets/horns, but the entire low brass section pretty much is in C.

      Are you daft? He was saying the tuning slides would raise the instrument a whole tone such that the fundamental is C. This wouldn't suddenly make it not read concert pitch.

    Interesting to see a modern instrument using a version of the disc/plate valves

    Great, funny review. I guess the idea is that beginner players sound so bad that it doesn't matter how bad the instrument is.

    Rotary valves are interesting. Tuba players deal with it, especially with high school directors that just think more expensive = better. They take a lot of work to get articulations and timing right to actually play a rotary instrument correctly. Some people are lucky and don't have as much of an issue, but it may be that you just need to mess around with the timing of the whole system.

    I agree with the C instrument thing, CC Tubas and C Trumpets are pretty much it when it comes to C brass in common use

    3:12 normally when a company says something does not require oil they are talking about within the amount of time they expect it to exist, i little oil comparable with the material never hurts and almost always can help make the thing last longer.

    What kind of plastic is it made of, compared to a pbone? they should have used tribopolymers on the valves

    Do you think adding a thin silicone or felt pad between the valve tops and the housing would help with the clicking?

    4:04 - Being able to put it in the key of C means anyone playing it can play straight from any sheet music for other Concert Pitch instruments used in primary schools instead of having to transpose. If you have a problem with instruments built to play at Concert Pitch, then you are part of the problem. Deal with it.

    • @JustisKai
      @JustisKai 4 дня назад

      I’m a little confused by this. If the Bb crook sets the fundamental to Bb does that not just make it operate like Bb tuba, euphonium and trombone? All of which are non transposing C instruments with a fundamental of Bb. You can play any concert pitch music on these Bb fundamental instruments anyways.

    4:39 ...he does know that Tuba, Euphonium, and Trombone, 3 of the 5 main brass instruments, are in the key of C... Right? And that none of the common brass instruments are in the key of Eb?

    • @Bennim
      @Bennim  3 месяца назад +8

      It's kind of complicated. Those instruments are in C when played in bass cleft, but their lowest fundamental pitch is still Bb, so using the C tubing on the jHorn would not translate. Also, I mentioned Eb because it's used in a lot of instruments in the British-style brass band, which is popular in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK (which is where Nuvo is based)

    • @kylemoyes9718

    • @bartoszwalasek5254

      @@Bennim In Europe and especially in German compositions for brass bands, instruments such as Cornet in E flat, Bass in E flat and Euphonium in E flat are popular and available. In many classical and popular pieces there is a French horn in E flat. If the orchestra lacks these instruments, these parts are played by saxophones or eufonio/saxhorns.
      So you were right Bennim
