    10:01 As the ambient music at the beginning started i thought: "Why is the musik always 50 dB louder than the voice and why an elevator track. But the 2nd is pretty good, followed by another ride in the elevator. But this 4th one is really awesome. I like those high pitched voices [holdover from my breakbeat times]. Pretty nice build btw.

    Hello, very neatly looking job! I tried the same black matte effect on mdf, however with grey spray primer and black matte spray lack on top it was still too shiny and uneven. What is the trick here? Thanks

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  2 года назад +1

      I often use a spray filler to even out the surface, wet sanding in between two coats to get it smooth. Then a primer and then a colour coat or two or three. This is then covered with a coat or two of matte spray lacquer.

  • @mndlessdrwer

    I've already commented on this before, but a surround design like this would be fantastic for rear surrounds mounted on the rear wall. The wide dispersion and excellent off-axis performance of the double ring radiator tweeter coupled with the rounded design of that cabinet should provide excellent results even if you're listening on-axis to the woofer. But the best effect will be how atmospheric the first and second order reflections should be if used as rear surrounds. At some point I want to have enough space and money to buy a bunch of KEF 3001SE or equivalent little pod speakers to fully occupy all of the 11 channels of amplifier output my receiver supports. Their sound should mesh decently well with my KEF iQ90 towers and I'll never be able to afford to build anything better myself with nearly as compact and comprehensive a design.

    Great work buddy. You should build filters using some standard PCB, which is really cheap and available.

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 лет назад

      Thanks man. Not really into the off-the-shelf stock PCB crossovers. You will almost never get the desired result as each driver has a varied response from each other. You have to measure and build a crossover according to the measurements and specs of the drivers for a good predicted outcome.

    Have you ever thought about reboxing an existing speaker that already sounds good but has a crappy or damaged cabinet? Something like a Dayton Audio bookshelf or maybe some high end older speaker picked up used that has a warn or damaged cabinet but the drivers are in perfect condition? I think that would be a great project to get people into speaker building as many may have the woodworking skills, but are overwhelmed with the idea of matching driver types and building crossovers. This would be a great way to get proven sound results but with a furniture grade custom looking finished product.

    I loved these, being a committed hi-fi nut. one thing that puzzles me though is the speaker terminal plate on the rear. As you've included wall mounting brackets won't the speaker terminal plate and the speaker cable stop the speaker from lying close to the wall? Would it influence the speaker if you were to machine a recess for the speaker terminal plate?

    • @SoundBlab
      @SoundBlab  5 лет назад

      Thanks. You can just extend the screws in the wall far enough to clear the terminal cup. Or use some silicone or rubber spacers on the back.

    I don't understand the layers of plywood look but otherwise very good.

      I quite like the look of the exposed plywood edges, but I know it's not in everybody's taste 😉.

    I wish you would go in to details about how this speaker works good for theater. Or why you picked the speaker and crossover components you did. You do make nice looking speakers, just not what im looking for in content.

      Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely make an effort to do so for some of my projects.

    I've worked with those XT25 small frame tweeters before, and it can be a little nerve wrecking. Too easy to accidentally slip and ruin one.

      Swap out the Philips screws for some square drive or torx screws and save yourself a lot of heartache worrying about the bit jumping out of the screw.
