The man that nearly lost his son having an uncontrollable wave of empathy and grief and the woman who lost her son staying strong and poised to help him through it. That was powerful.
Not only that but him just being a parent he gets how it feels to be a parent and one of the scariest things a parent goes through is worrying about their child
I disagree it should not be Regina comforting him it's the other way round. If he couldn't hold it together then don't ask. So you traumatise her all over again? No he needs to hold it together she doesn't need your emotions on her. Lovely to see her out and about. People just ask her questions about herself she will talk about what happened when she's good and ready or she may never its her choice. So Jimmy breaks down and cries and she comforts him? Get out if here. She does not need that.

It’s crazy how no one is allowed to be human anymore. Jimmy doesn’t have to know Regina to be emotional about her sad experience with losing her son. It could be one human being sympathizing for what another human being has gone through. Also, Jimmy broke down…. So what? He can’t feel emotion? When her beautiful son died I really cried for someone I didn't even know. Regina was always a person with grace and humility, I can't even imagine the pain.
I believe her healing process was made easier because of how much unbridled LOVE and understanding she always showed for her son on and likely off camera. And he loved her the same. It wasn't out of the blue, he'd been battling mental health for a long time so I feel like in that it's easier for a parent to come to terms with rather than the dreaded "I could've done more" Regina may been King but she is such a Queen. RIP to Ian I feel for him
From a complete stranger online, thank you. I lost a child 18 years ago and I can't tell you how many times I've heard " I can only imagine." No, you can't. Unless you've been there, you have not an inkling of a clue. So thank you. 🩵
Jimmy won me over with this interview. It really shows the level of compassion he has. I’m glad he was able to keep it together and make this a jovial interview for Regina, himself, audience members, and us - viewers at home. Regina is holding up very well. May God continue to keep her in high spirits. 🙏🏾
You need to watch when he spoke about his new born(at the time) having emergency surgery due to a heart malfunction. THAT was powerful. He won me over from then. This with Regina was just another reason for me to love Jimmy. She's such a strong, beautiful soul. Honestly, I don't know how she does it but I appreciate her sharing. It's truly an inspiration and I'm sure therapy for herself
JIMMY REALLY CARES FOR REGINA. TO FEEL HER LOSS SO DEEPLY AND BECOME EMOTIONAL LIKE THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HIS CHARACTER AS A PERSON AND A FATHER. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
The way she casually mentions Ian driving a stick the way she did is very therapeutic and cathartic. She is embracing the good memories and not focusing on the negative and that is so important in the healing process and I love this, supporting always ❤
Yes I noticed that too. I’m learning from experience that it’s a breakthrough when we can speak of good memories of a loved one (grandbaby, in my case) gone too soon.🥺
I didn't expect to get choked up, but suddenly I felt a knot in my throat. Regina communicated her sentiments with a gentle brush of her hand and a bridled smile. I want to believe she was saying, and I love you too...
She looks fabulous. Thank God she doesn’t look like what she’s been through. I love how Jimmy got choked up in the beginning when he says “you’ve had a rough past year’. No Mother should have to bury their child.
It's been 20 minutes and I'm still choking up at him choking up and her reaching out to comfort him. Very poignant, authentic moment. Says a lot about the character of both❤❤❤
The genuine moment they shared here was so touching, and you can tell that Jimmy worked extra hard to make Regina laugh as much as possible and keep her spirits up and keep things upbeat for her. He really highlighted the movie Shirley well and kept an impeccable and delicate balance of promoting the movie, and keeping the conversation engaging and funny. You can tell that he has a lot of respect for Regina and treated her with the utmost care in her return to the spotlight after her son’s passing. I’ve watched a few interviews and Jimmy was honestly the most balanced and caring during such a delicate time for Regina. Way to go Jimmy.
Regina your strength has blessed me. I lost my 20 year old son last August to suicide. I pray for your continued healing and thank you for your transparency.
What touched me was how she tried to cover for Jimmy, giving him time to collect himself while tears were in her eyes when she was talking about working with William Shatner. She's so giving.
I noticed too - you can see even in the William convo she pushes her comments longer after she looks over to him each time - I think he was crying that whole segment
I’ve been a Jimmy Kimmel fan for the past decades and I can honestly say that it is rare to see an actress/ guest that is beautiful inside and out like Regina King. And before anyone thinks I’m black I’m not, I’m hispanic. Regina is a beautiful individual with a graceful personality.
I tried so hard not to cry in the opening introduction. Regina you are the epitome of a kind strong beautiful spirited woman. Prayers to you Queen. Thank you Jimmy for showing your soft side. It takes a true man to show his vulnerability.
I attended a private screening of SHIRLEY and I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing her life to the big screen. It was so refreshing to look at the screen and be so proud and educated at the same time. ❤❤❤❤ Great job! 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I could see Jimmy's emotions beginning to flow. I loved how Regina held his hand to help him keep his composure and then encouraging him. I also loved the way Jimmy tried to change the atmosphere in the place when he asked her did she see William Shatner. Very touching moment.
Jimmy getting choked up was such a genuine sincere moment. I can only imagine what she’s been through, and that she can put on a brave face and move forward with such grace and dignity is so admirable. I know it can’t be easy. The way Jimmy respectfully asked how she’s doing without being intrusive was very sweet. I just love her so much…I pray for her continued healing during this time!❤
