This song is special for Lara: she became a superstar in Quebec with a rendition she made in 1993 on a TV show for Valentine’s day. There was a snow storm, everybody was stuck at home, very few TV channels at that time, so many many french canadian discovered Lara’s stunning voice that night and her first album sales skyrocketed the next day.

Such a crystalline, powerful voice! She sings this iconic song effortlessly, and definitely gives props to Whitney Houston. I think people do expect that, if a singer is going to take on this song, they should do it at least as well as Whitney. Or perhaps just don’t bother to do it.
Thanks for the submission, Eric, and your thoughtful reaction, Harri.

This song was being dedicated to her parents who are in the audience celebrating their 30th anniversary. It is my understanding that Barbara Streisand was also in the audience. "Papa can you hear me" from Streisand's movie Yentl that you reacted to a while back is from the same concert.

    • @ericsicard910
      @ericsicard910 4 месяца назад +5

No Barbra Streisand was not in the audience of this "Pure" 1997 Montreal concert. This a false information propagated by a reactor misreading a fan’s comment. But the parents of Lara were there.

Hello, Harri! What a great remake by Lara Fabian! How I wish Whitney Houston had recorded more R&B style songs like the remake of "Just The Lonely Talking Again" in which she owned the song originally recorded by the legendary group The Manhattans, both versions worth a listen. Cheers from Brazil, my friend!

Of course, I loved Whitney Houston, but if I had to declare a difference I find that Lara Fabian enunciates words clearer in just about any song or any language she speaks. Otherwise, the song sounds just as Whitney would have done.

    Hello Harri
Please watch Lara Fabian Llora((official video) This song is about a real life woman called Maria Victoria that was killed by her husband
That murder is what inspired this song. The video is indeed very hard but also so well played by Lara.

Whitney murdered this song.... and this version is a replica.
The original by Dolly Parton was delicate, bitter-sweet, exquisite.

Whitney didn’t murder the song. She changed it and made it the greatest power ballad. Even Dolly has gone on record saying how she loved the Whitney version.
I, myself have always liked the original Dolly version but Lara is wonderful as always, as far as I’m concerned sho couldn’t ‘murder’ anything

      @@anneharley5319 Fair enough.
At least Dolly makes a lot of money off Whitney's version and 'The Bodyguard' film... $10million so far!

Whitney's voice was a bit darker and velvety but I think they come from a bit different singing traditions, as in Lara has a classical/operatic training and Whitney maybe has more gospel background to her use of her voice.
However, to a European ear, I know Lara could sing opera but I don't know if Whitney could have.
It's probably because of the different background that Whitney would have been accustomed to taking more risks with her voice, where as Lara is less spontaneous and more about perfection.

Love Lara's superb performance of Whitney Houston signature tune, but I think the must view version is Katherine Jenkins when she sings this in Italian. Her operatic voice really shines in the final part of the song
