Went to junior high with this kid.. he was great but he and a few others took the easiest path to college. Private school football in Texas is where everybody with money goes so there’s not a lot of competition. You’ll look amazing in private school but once you play a public school you’re just average. A TOP quarterback will play his freshman year and make a difference. Look at Tua or the Clemson quarterback. He could’ve been at any SEC school but went to Arizona?! Easy path again it seems like...

Agreed. I played with his oldest brother and in just four years of high school he played at 6 different schools. After all that, his brother only ended up as a reserve linebacker at Central Arkansas. Absolutely ridiculous; he never got the chance to live out a normal high school career because Gunnell Sr was deadset on him being a 5-star recruit. Though that's all hindsight now. I remember their dad being super obnoxious and screaming from the stands "my son's gonna be in the NFL!" and claming his oldest son was getting offers from Bama and Oregon, which were all total delusions because he ended up being a reserve linebacker at Central Ark. I'm sure it was his father who paid for this cringey video to be made about Grant, calling him "the Lebron of football" is just sickening. St Pius X was nothing but kids from College Park High School beating up on nobody homeschool teams and it's no wonder why alot of these kids, like Gunnell and Chase Lane, ended up being college flops. You're right about Grant taking the easy route because look at where he is now: his fourth college (an FCS school) and he hasn't had solid playing time since 2020.
This video is already aging really poorly. I wouldn't even be surprised if he was a backup at SHSU. I don't even think it's his fault. He was a nice kid and a good athlete but he and many others were hyped to oblivion. This just goes to show why you don't overhype children. If his football career doesn't work out, I really hope Grant doesn't look back at himself as a failure because he didn't amount to the "Lebron of football" crap this video promised he'd be, because it's nearly impossible to fill those shoes no matter how flashy the documentary about your life is.

Private schools are in some cases, are like colleges, they do recruit players. They get players from local HS's where second teamers can become stars in the private schools. I know of some schools having kids from all over the nation and they beat some of the best teams in the state of Texas. So that is why public schools in Texas do not want to recognize the private schools nor play them.

Everyone in Tx knows the best HS football in Texas is public 6A, (Allen Katy, North-shore, Lake Travis. People move to these schools just for football. Even if they can’t recruit.

I'm confused, he says they lost by one point, yet the record shows they lost 42-0 in the playoffs in 2018. This would be the previous season and this video was published January of this year. Someone please explain.

Being a former Texas high school football player, he is very talented and it would be nice him do that verses the 4A-6A public schools in Texas but I will not take anything from this kids because he is undoubtedly talented and could probably light up any team in the state.
