    There's only one way you can keep koi in a aquarium, and that's keeping any koi under 4-5" in a tank no smaller than 30 gallons (per koi). That will last for 3-5 years, then they need to go in a small pond minimum, whether in or out door. If you keep a koi in a aquarium for too long they will get health issues and croak. That's a promise, they won't make it. If you want to keep an aquarium just keep fancy goldfish, but a koi will eventually have to go into a small pond, they need the ecosystem and area, for they produce a ton of waste.

      Nice that’s a really smart tactic to grow on fry I do that as well keeping them in a tank over winter usually helps them grow a-lot faster glad to here that it all went well with them.

    I've got two koi a comet and a gold fish for more than a year, the koi isn't really growing and now they just lay down at the bottom of the tank, tank size is 160 liters.

      It may be to do with the fact that the tank is to small for the koi. Also the water parameters may be off .

    I have a 4 inch butterfly koi in my 1200 liter pond how long will take roughly to out grow the pond cuss I have seen a really mixed view on how fast they grow and will I need to upgrade the pond if so how long till I would have to. Or as I have seen on some websites it says they release a hormone to stop growing is this Oki for the fish of so how big till it would do this thanks love your video

      Hi if it’s 4 inches it will probaly take it about a year to grow to big for the pond roughly

    How big is your aquarium?

  • @riverbankfisher

    I have a 300-gallon tank through which I have a constant flow of fresh water flowing around the clock, and I currently have 17 Koi all about four inches in length. The tank measures 7 feet long by 3 feet 6 inches deep by 3 feet wide, and the inflow of water drops 5 feet from an overhead pipe to aerate it before it reaches the aquarium water surface.
    Do you think the fish will remain healthy if I grow them to 2 feet in length or greater in this aquarium? I do have an outdoor pond but I like seeing the koi in the aquarium and intend to keep them in the aquarium for as long as possible. Any thoughts you can share on my dastardly plan would be appreciated.

      The tanks definitely big enough but I’d recommend moving them into the pond once they get bigger

    Do you think I could get away with two 7.5 inch koi in a 100-150 gallon tank for 3 months? Just until spring when it’s warm enough to put them in my pond. What’s the smallest tank size you’d recommend for this scenario?

    • @praisethesun2373
      @praisethesun2373 7 месяцев назад

      yes thats more than enough. Keeping koi in aquariums imo is totally possible and it's very common in Japan for example for the casual koi keeper (not everything is a mud pond over there). Key things will just be: not overfeeding, good filtration, and a neutral water temperature of not too cold but not too warm, 72-74F is a nice middle spot.

    Hey I’m wanting to get an Aqua Dream 200 Gallon Tempered Glass All-in-one Aquarium White and Silver. So I’m wondering if I could keep 2 koi happy in a aquarium like that? If not I may just get one koi, some comet goldfish, and 5 or more barbs.

      Potentially although I would recommend that you purchase no more than two koi for the tank 👍

    • @TiaraDalmeida-hf4zp
      @TiaraDalmeida-hf4zp 3 месяца назад

      You need 250 gallon per koi. So no. When they are small of course you can fit 3 but they will grow stunted and unhealthy and die after a few years. Kois need a depth of 3 feet min, 4 feet ideal, to get the right water pressure to grow properly.

      How many fish do you have together, when you have smaller number they tend to be far more scared and less active. Alternatively some fish are just far less active due to their genetic.

    Is over-wintering for about 3 months in a 75 gallon ethical for 2 koi who are about 4 inches? I don’t want to abuse my fish but I’m unable to dig a deep enough pond until next year.

    • @UkKoiFish
      @UkKoiFish  Год назад +2

      Hi I’d say that I’d it is only 3 months then it may be ok. Although I would say just keep an eye on how large they get. If the water quality is gd then the only side effect you could face is stunted growth but if it is only for 3 months then there should be no issue

      I have had no issues with this but I recommend that you only do this if the koi are a similar size to the clown loach. Do remember you can only leave the koi in the tank for just under a year before they get to big
