The true reason foreign corporations are ceasing use of roo leather is that they resent the import overhead costs. They'd rather use recycled synthetics or calf leather sourced domestically, and improve their profit margin. But roo leather is traditional and beloved, and so to soften the consumer backlash, the corporations present a disingenuous ethical argument for why they're discontinuing use of roo leather. And we know it's disingenuous because these same corporations are continuing to use of calf leather, which is an EXTREMELY unethical material, far more so than roo leather acquired from culling wild, free range kangaroos. Anyway. What all this means is that there is an opportunity here for an Australian soccer/football company to step up and inherit the vacated market on roo leather boots. Australian companies enjoy an overhead cost advantage on using roo leather.
It's a bit of a joke for most people mate, we know down here in AUS that Roo leather is more expensive to produce, which is why the larger companies are moving away from it to save $$. If you look at the most premium boots on the market (Mizuno, Adler, Asics, etc), they ALL still use K-leather
this is a very good boot especially if you can get it for the right price, got them with the SG soleplates for $130, very happy with them, quite decent for wide feet too.
I’m with you that k-better is definitely nicer than Flytouch. I think Puma should take a page out of adidas’s book and use that upper on a speed boot. I’m one of those people that loves the first generation King Ultimate so this iteration might not be for me.
Interesting video. I seems like while Puma has improved them, it still seems like they could do a bit more. It is great that you like them though. That heel looks excellent too! Would love to hear you get into it with the issues with synthetics versus k leather.
Love the review mate deffo gonna try to pick up a pair of these as I come back from injury. Do you think you could try the first take down of these as it features a more thick/traditional k better upper and the same sole plate
I would like these shoes but I'm concerned about the width, how are the width on these shoes compared to puma future? I have wide feet and the future fits my wide feet very good. Do you recommend these shoes or should I stick to future?
Hey Noah, I have the new Ultras and I found the sizing a bit weird so was wondering if these are similar. I usually wear a size 13US but when I tried the ultras sizing down to a 12US worked a bit better. I don’t have the luxury of being able to try on the Kings in my size so I was wondering if you think the sizing would be similar?
I wear a 13 in mercurials. Looking for new boots but just unsure of sizing with different boots and brands. Size suggestions on these with wearing the 13 in mercurials?
Bit unrelated, but do you find AG boots have better durability than their FG counterparts on AG pitches? Or is the only difference really just the soleplate and stud pattern?
For my Mizuno Alpha Elites, there’s nothing different to the boot besides the pattern of the studs. I know some boots do have a extra bit of plastic, the lip someone else commented about, which should help
Most AG specific soleplates are made of denser material than the density standard for FG specific soleplates. This is why AG plate boots nearly always weigh more than FG plate boots. Because the soleplate is denser, the spikes/studs/blades on the average AG plate last longer, don't wear down as quickly as the softer material of an FG plate. Separation of the upper from the outsole is an issue with practically any boot on AG. A raised lip, rubberized coating, suede bumper, rivets, or fully stitching the upper to the soleplate are intended to counter this issue. Regardless of the soleplate, if the boot in question doesn't employ any of these solutions, you shouldn't expect it to have any enhanced resistance to upper separation on AG.
It's decent yeah! But regardless of what they say it is, objectively this stud pattern is a lot more suited to both surface types compared to other stuff on the market because of the conical studs!
Aside from preference regarding how the upper feels on the ball, which is a question only you can answer for yourself via experience, the most important objective difference between Ultras and (modern) Kings is that the Ultra has a very aggressive, bladed soleplate, and the King has a much more neutral, conical soleplate. So you should decide which is the better soleplate for you. if you play on AG at all, you should probably avoid Ultras.
@@CognizantCheddardo you think that if I go with the ultras( cause I like the colours better), the sole plate will be a significantly negative thing for me, I play on ag only and am also winger so I think that the ultras will suit me better, the only thing is that I am concerned about the sole plate, so can u answer if it will play a very important role on how I feel the boot?
You might find that half size up is too big. Not on you but pumas sizing on both the first and second kings is messed up and slightly off. When you have multiple boots you also have multiple insoles! Use the thinner insoles like the speed insole that comes with the messi cleats and keep the same boot you tested in the vid. And thin socks as opposed to grip socks helps. I been doing this for years. And I love how you pointed out that your the only ex pro who's testing cleats. Levels!
@@badmarshall5556 I actually don't mate! I have a review on another colorway IN 1/2 size up and they're perfect 🤩 (see the unisport "mountain pack" colorway video)

I wear a 13 in mercurials. What size suggestions would you have for these? Trying to venture out in to a different boot but just don't know about sizing with some cleats when I don't have the opportunity to try them on.
Man, thanks for answering my prayer with this Play Test. Great one!
Like the sound striking the ball on these and hopefully getting one soon!
No worries mate 🤝
What do people in Australia think about these big foreign companies stopping their use of kangaroo leather?

Thank you!
Good vid! Yesterday I coincidentally came across a big discount on these, definitely giving them a try. Looking forward to your 1 month review!

Looking forward to the review of those red diadoras you bought

Fair enough mate! If these had all the same pieces but they used a thin k-leather... whoa

Are these wider than the first King Ultimate and the Tiempo 10?
Yes
Is it worth for wide feet ?
Not the best option, but a good option for sure 🤩
@NoahCavanaugh thanks brother🙏

Are you going to do one month review for puma ultra?
Yep!
Is it lightweight according to you? And how light is it compared to the version 1
Not super light, but totally decent mate!
These or the predator for wide feet?? Also if i were to buy these would a usual size 44 EU be perfect or a size 44.5?
mmm neither are SUPER wide, but both will suit most people I reckon. go TTS with the predator and .5 size up for the King
@NoahCavanaugh in terms of overall performance these or the predator leagues? And also in terms of comfort which are best?
When are these coming out?
They already released mate

So…are the Phantom gx2 or these puma kings fit better for wide feet?
GX2 still!
How would you compare the crazyfast and predator? How do they feel different?
Totally different boots bro, not sure what to say other than they aren't similar at all 😂
will you do an Ultra 5 Ultimate play test?

I'd probably go 13.5 mate, I do a 9US in Vapors and 9.5US in these

Bit unrelated, but do you find AG boots have better durability than their FG counterparts on AG pitches? Or is the only difference really just the soleplate and stud pattern?
When I go to the store, I never see any extra reinforcements on AG models. It’s always just the sole plate changed. Hope this helps.
I would say if they have a plastic lip they probably are more durable

For me it depends on the AG model mate - some AG models have extra reinforcement around the upper area in the toebox.
