Jeff my boat has yamaha autopilot tied in with my electric steering. My problem is when i stop to fish and turn off my key on my yamaha motors i lose my heading sensor on my garmin 8616xvs screens. Should i install a garmin heading sensor and tell the unit to use that heading sensor instead? If so which one? And will my yamaha steering and autopilot still work with the new garmin heading sensor?
G'day, can I ask you a question if I get a heading sensor for my fishing boat? Will that affect me when I put it into autopilot or would it calibrate with the autopilot?
That is the Best explanation I have ever heard. Thanks ( The First 3.46 Minutes the sound volume was way to low. The ending was improved. Could you Please turn the volume up in your Editing Software to a normal Db. Thanks )
Thanks Robert! Thanks for the heads up - we are in the process of upgrading our equipment so future videos should be much better. Thanks for watching our content!
How do we ask a question? I have seen several boats on RUclips, Sailing into Freedom, Zingaro, Sailing Parlay...struck by lightning. What is the best thing I can do to minimize damage done if my boat is struck by lightning?
Mark good question, unfortunately lightening strikes are not as prevalent here in the pacific northwest and as such, don't see too much damage from it. My knowledge is limited to reading about it more then seeing first hand it's affects. Suggest you contact someone in Florida they should know more about lightening protection.
This is an excellent video. Thank you for bringing heading sensors down to an understandable explaintion.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice explanation Jeff 👍

can a GNSS compass be used as a heading senors? if yes, what are the pros & cons of it when compared to a heading sensor?
Hmmm... never tried a GNSS compass before, not sure what the update frequency is for a heading. Anyone tried this before?
