So often when I hear and SEE her perform I find I have not breathed. She nails my head to the door, such magic and technique and beauty and ...magic and magic. And CLASS! No class today, none.
What a ravishingly emotional and beautiful rendering of "Un bel di"!!!!!! "Pace, pace mio Dio" is simply electrifying as always. "La diva di tutte le dive" indeed!
Absolutely spellbinding. So happy I was able to see her in concert in Chicago three times with the CSO, and met and spoke with her afterwards. Pure and utter class, in her singing, speech and presence. One of my life’s highlights.
Price delivers, there is no doubt about it. One may comment on this or that, probably with some right of speaking, but then the sheer outer worldly sounds and phrasing she produces pulverise such comments, and reduce them to reflect on whoever says them more than her singing. Is it up to us, audience members, to criticize, to classify, to explain, to judge her singing? I don't think so, I really don't. It is up to us to absorb it, to witness it, to experience it as gift from the near twins Nature and the Creator, and to enjoy it. And then you feel Gratitude, Grace, and God.
I've listened to many sopranos sing Pace from La Forza, while very unfairly comparing them to who I call La Gloriosa, Mme Price. My all time favorite of her renditions is the 1982 Concert at the MET, the James Levine arrangement for her. Stratospheric. The only modern soprano who has come the closest to rivaling her rendition is Angela Ghiorgeu. I continue to give all comers a fair listen, but Price set the bar very high. Yes, la diva di tutte le dive.

Maybe, just maybe sometimes her way of phrasing sounded a bit in non belcanto style, but the expression was always there. Price is priceless ❤

Did she interpolate a short high C after the extended high Bflat?
Yes! She does the same thing in the studio recording 😃
@@davidsimmons654 its a beautiful interpolation. I love how over the top Leontyne can be but its always subtle and tasteful.
@@mugrad25 yes!
No. It’s an overtone. She always sang come scritto.
@@liedersanger1 i dont think so. Ive heard Renee Fleming and Kiri Te Kanawa do this exact ornamentation. Its tasteful for mozart.
Who was the conductor? He's brilliant!
@wizard3770: Charles DuToit, Swiss conductor.
Beautiful woman.gorgeous voice.but as usual i understand the 30% of the text she's singing.too bad
