- Heartless Bastard's performing "Out At Sea" on the Late Show with David Letterman. This is their national television debut. The new album, The Mountain, is in stores now.
These Letterman debuts are wonderful. They’re playing their guts out, and really shining brightly.
The finest female voice I've heard in ages. Great songs. At last, another decent female rocker!
I was in the audience. They sounded great live!
Straight up no bullshit rock and roll! Why are they not huge? Everyone should hear this.
This band is soooooooooooooo good!!!
they are all soul and real feelings! Love them!
This music is soul healing and helpful.
Their songs are like having someone hold your hand and show you the way out of your own head.
i've been listening to this song, "My Maker" & "Hold You Head High" on repeat for the last 2 days. :)
thanks, you guys.
i needed a new favorite band. ;)
Loved this performance! I agree with you, Dave and Paul were in their own little Antone's world. But it was great of Dave to have HB's on the show and to give them such exposure.
Love this band
Original sound and talent...you go girl! Eat your heart out Joan Jet! This girl is right up there with Chrissie Hines, Debra Harry and Patti Smith
I bought The Mountain last Friday and I've had this song stuck in my head all day.
Great album.
This band is awesome. Can't wait for their next album
I LOVE this song!! Just saw them with Wolfmother and the newno2! Awesome show!
everyday I love this band more & more
Excellent sounding group! I'm suret we'll be hearing a lot more from them.
Can't go wrong with this band.
cant wait to see them on the 30th with hacienda.
Two great bands. Saw them both in Boston.
Phenomenal voice
If any of you saw them live, they toured with The Deep Vibration. Both bands came into our studio to perform so check em out!
missed the performance last night on letterman, glad to see it's up! awesome performance, good to see letterman talk to the band for a few seconds rather than just shake their hands and say "heartless bastards, ladies and gentlemen, we'll be right back!"
why? why am i listenin grunge? in that? such nice soft grunge with nice voice nice tempo? grunge backround behind of nice sensitive independ music, man im love in HB thank you
Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith had a child.
+Mashiach Rocker ah yes! Exactly what I was thinking!
So damm cool!!!
I saw them open for the Gaslight Anthem, and they weren't dull at all. They rocked the fuck out! I liked them better than the main act.
Best rock band out there at the moment.
Caught them last Fri. night in Richmond, Va. Blew me away!!! My first exposure, ...where have these guys been hiding???
thank god the circle is unbroken..u go on HB
jus saw and heard em 2 nites ago for first time ever, supporting brendan benson....they kicked his ass fraid to say!!!!
12y this song was released and i found it only today
gonna see them at canal street on the 27th with my brother.
I'm excited to meet them Tuesday.
Love this song! and the band (:
I saw them open for Andrew Bird, too. And I agree at times they were a little 3-chord, but I didn't think they were dull. To me they were a good reliable rock band, bringing out hard and loud music. I was really feeling it.
I went to Andrew's show from 2 years ago, and the opening act was really dull. I think it was some woman with an acoustic guitar. So Heartless Bastards was definitely an improvement.
AMAZING!!!
Amazing album
I saw them a year ago in Reno, opening for Gaslight Anthem, who cancelled at the last minute, making HB the headliners. It was okay by me, since I came there for HB anyway. Great show!
YEAH, CINCINNATI!!! Even though wiki and their own site says Dayton, we know the truth. Back in 2001-2004 Erika was my favorite bartender at Arlin's on Ludlow, and she brought a lot of great music to the scene there, made me sing karaoke a few times, heh. What a ruler. Her voice and talent are amazing. Love you Erika.
would love to see them live!!!!!!!!!!
thats awesome
Saw them open for Wolfmother. I loved their cover of Done Got Old
Saw 'em with Jenny Lewis last night here in Jacksonville at Freebird, they fucking tear it up.
Just Saw them at SXSW, pretty damn good!
I just saw them open for DBT...was pleasantly surprised even if they aren't the most original.
Saw them in a tiny second-floor venue in Cincinnati in 2004 or 2005. That version of the band was fantastically rough and sludgy. But I love this version too.
this band is the balls nuts!
Sweet sound. xoxo roo roo
i saw them live yesterday at the kool haus! fucking amazing!
Heartless Bastards killed it at the Independent last night! Erika Wennerstrom is my new hero. And she made a bunch of disaffected hipsters dance like nerds. Whee!!
Best rock band out there at the moment (to me anyway)
@jimmymac63 yea he does the dodos played in Letterman great band
Last night they were at Chelsea club in Vienna.
I wish I could find the lyrics to this song. Love it though.
I honestly don't know why they don't get more airplay! Sheese, if she isn't a second coming of Janis Joplin, there will never be one!
Miss my sea men
ME TOO At the Riviera
Lookin' down to make sure she's hitting that chord change for sure
McDowell Mountain Music Festival!!
Did the HB's add a fourth member, or was that cat on guitar just for the TV performance?
Keep up the fantastic work, Bastards!!
great performance! i love the call out for cincinnati.
Back-up harmonies would really set this song off. The Sommatone amp lead guitarist uses sounds awsome!
saw them open for andrew bird last st. patricks day, hard act to open for, but yeah, they definitely rock
I love Erika Wennerstrom. I love the HBs. I love James McMurtry even though that's a different band. I love the Pretenders. Anyone who doubts Chrissie should track down their first album. I'm sure that Erica loves it. James Honeyman Scott was amazing.
They were all fantastic weren't they?! I can't believe I saw George Harrison's son!!
@claredom she has served you drinks before?! lucky!!
Wolfmother blows these guys out of the water. I saw them at the kool haus in toronto and it blew me away. HB on the other hand were just average I thought. You're completely entitled to your opinion though :P
erika looks like she could be right off the pretenders II album cover ... in homage to chrissie hynde? daytonians done good.
I first heard their music on wfuv dot org. They have a cool sound and just DIFFERENT!!!! They sure aren't mainstream or boring...
perfrect
They're better live! Saw at Dia de los Toadies.
@porkstorm because that is how Johnny Ramone said it was to be done!
@baldy5000 i don't really think they've even made it big yet, but i know what you mean, knowing when a band is going places.
wasnt this on the same program with capt sully sulenberger
I have to agree on the "Austin" comment. They've clearly moved here but weren't formed here so are trying to tell Dave they're from Cincinatti.
@hungrykillerspoon But he does have great musical guests!
I think the drummer wanted a handshake.
Can someone please fix this video so we can all see it...Thanks
@raysfan527 Completely disagree, they are awesome live and their songs don't sound the same at all. Not sure why they were opening for Wolfmother... not really that similar.
hey i like em...reminds me of the pumpkins...
You didn't come off as a jerk at all! I was just adding my two cents. :)
@chadgarland and if I listen to Led Zepp AND Wolfmother? What then?
@porkstorm that'st the way buddy holly played too
i think they are very good live. i don't think they could do bad on anything!
@chadgarland and the ramones, ac/dc, guns n roses, and wilco. what's your point? am i not allowed to have a broad taste in music?
@robmatlivingstone You are completely off the mark, they are one of the best rock bands performing today. Perhaps you are the one who can't hear correctly.
nice energy...erika's outfit reminds me of early ray davies...not an insult so don't take it as such...thanks
somebodys been watching chrissie hynde
she sounds like the lead singer of jefferson airplane
Oh a blond Crissie Hynde
She looks like Rose Ushiromiya from Umineko No Naku Koro Ni
skip david 0:30 lol
bastards sounds so much better in an english accent
@porkstorm Jack White plays with a lot of upstrokes. There is no right way to play the guitar or any instrument for that matter. The sound is all that matters. If it takes all down strokes to get it...so be it.
just kinda realized the similarity to cat power in a strange way...
I prefer joan jet .... this band has the makings of greatness but there is something missing ...they'll probably sound better live though....
poor drummer didn't get a shake...
Why is Letterman so fixated on "Austin" at the end there? The Band is clearly trying to give some love to their home town! Oh Dave, have you become a slightly senile elder who has the right to start telling a "when I was your age" story whenever it suits you?
he doesnt even seem like he likes it all wtf david shame on you
@chadgarland i agree that led zeppelin is great but you have to actually give music a chance before you call it shit
Janis Joplin
