The mittens are beautiful. May I ask, since it’s a small area for the thumb, would it be easier on those stitches to pick up using a provisional cast on, top and bottom leaving the tails out? Would that be easier to do?
Ah, I see what you're thinking but no, this is actually a really simple way to give yourself live stitches top and bottom! Kristin grabs the stitches before she pulls out the scrap yarn but you can also pull the scrap yarn out first because with a stitcky yarn like this the stitches won't drop. Then you'll see the little stitches popping up and you can slip them onto your needle.
