  • In this episode of FLY TV, Daniel "Mr. Beard" Bergman goes to Tjuonajokk in the Swedish mountains to fish for big brown trout with big, articulated "American style" streamers together with Robert Hansson from Fish Your Dream.
    Except putting the streamers to the test catching big brownies in an amazing environment, Daniel will also show us different kinds of streamers, how they move in the water and how to fish them the best way.

    This last summer I wanted to learn flyfishing and started to watch flyfishing videos (especially FLY TV) and said to myself that I want to give it a try! It felt overwhelming with all the flies, lines, knots, technique, but I got some help and me and my friends went out one evening and flyfished some grayling and as the first one took the fly I was litteraly hooked! Can't wait untill the ice has melted so I can get out there with my new rod! I'm only 20 years old and I feel that it will take a while to learn all the necessary knots and technique, but the feeling you get when you hook a fish on a fly rod is really something else! Thanks to the FLY TV team for this excellent show that helped me find a new hobby!

    I have to correct you guys in the area of Bergslagen in Sweden the way of Streamerfishing was the only way people flyfished in the 80s. People used "Rävhårsmatukor" with a lot of lead and eyes tied in, and they used Salmon hooks. And you have to adapt the way of speed youre stripping the line to the water and time of year and the type of salmonid. During theese years I were also fishing really Heavy nymphs in fast rapids with techniques like czheck/polish nymphfishing. Polish/Czheck nymphfishing hadnt build it reputation yet and was unknown to us, but that didnt stop us from developing something similar. One of my way of casting/fishing techniques were a combination of Roman Mosers "Tuck cast" end a "air mend"with a hint of Göran Andersson in the same cast. This cast and fishing technique were used in combination with Airflo low density teflon fly lines that was equipped with kevlar core. The fly line floated higher and longer than the standard PVC lines and hooked the fish better. But thoose lines broke down often... Sorry guys Some fishermen have gone deeper and Swedish flyfishing development and strateges do stand on it own legs despite that you have no idea of your hitory ; )

    • @danielbergman8980
      @danielbergman8980 8 лет назад

      +Max Jarno Of Course you are right. People here in Sweden have been using streamers for a long time. I don't know for how long, but I've heard about big wet flies, tied on long hooks as early as the late seventy's and I guess that is a sort of streamer as well. We are absolutely not claiming to be first with anything in any way. And at least my self is quite interested in the Swedish fly fishing history. But to my knowledge these 15 cm, double hooked flies tied to have a specific movement, fished very active with jerking rod-movement etc. have not been used in any big extent before in Sweden. And most Scandinavian guys think of something similar to salmon fishing when they hear of Streamer fishing. It's very interesting what you say about your nymphing as well. I know it was almost the same when it comes to Polen, the Chezch republic, italy etc. Quite similar techniques where developed almost simultaneously on different locations in the world without having heard of the other. I guess, when there is need for something similar techniques might be developed at the same time in different places.

    I always enjoy watching your fly fishing videos because you guys fish for different fish not just trout. I still like to see Brown trout (I prefer them over Brook trout color wise) videos that you guys make and this time you were using big streamers which you don't see often. I enjoyed this video.
    What was the name of that black fly you used in the video Daniel?

    • @danielbergman8980
      @danielbergman8980 8 лет назад +1

      Thanx for great feedback! We've stopped stocking Brookies here in Sweden since they seem to take more or less whole systems over... Beautiful fish though. The black flies in the vid was either a Belly Scratcher from Cheech at Flyfish food or a Junk Yard Dog-version originated by Mike Schmidt at Anglerchoiceflies.

      +Daniel Bergman That is funny because here in the USA it's the opposite, the Brown trout out compete the brook trout for food. I guess when you introduce an unnative species it's not going to be good. I do love fishing for Browns Brookies and Rainbows all in the same stream though.

My question is that if I can get myself over there will you take me out? I'm happy to reciprocate. I live right on the Provo River in Orem, Utah and I have a walk out apartment you can stay in. What do you say?

    Here is the recipe for the streamer pattern that I designed for rainbow trout and brown trout, a top secret pattern ( level of secrecy: TORA TORA TORA!!! LOL:-) THE SILVER FISH streamer pattern, really nice and fishy: Hook: Mustad L-87 3665A size 6-8 in bronze or gold finish or Mustad 9515 thread: White UNI-stretch (underbody built up body into torpedo and oval shape in the Oatman style - Golden Smelt, Shushan Postmaster, Golden Darter, Silver Darter, Doctor Oatman) tail: White schlappen feathers body: UNI floss White ribbing: UNI tinsel G/S size 14 throat: White schlappen feathers wing: Marabou dyed Cerise or Magenta with a few strands of Silver tinsel back (topping): 6-8 strands of peacock herl head: UNI thread chartreuse 3/0 with 4-6 layers of crystal clear nail polish... You can also tie this one up with wings using 2-4 rooster saddle hackles dyed Cerise or Magenta... And now it is not a secret pattern of mine anymore...LOL
