I got to collecting radios years ago and I still have over 20 of the old paper weights but when I went to sell them I found out the wood ones are the ones people want! So...if you want to collect and resell later just remember that!
This GE radio also appeared as a Halton (which looked identical to the GE) and as a Coronado , which is the one that I own. The Coronado had a sort of “shadow box” design in the grill area rather than the louvered grill.I really like the maple. Not a common wood for radio cabinets but it stands up well. The original knobs were wooden and are usually broken by now. If you cannot locate the wooden knob a period appropriate brown Bakelite d-shaft knob is an easy find. The Halton version that I used to have had the Bakelite knobs and you would think that it came that way until you saw one that still had the original wooden knobs..
Nice job! Your cabinet looks just right. If it looks nice to YOU, sitting on your table or desk, you've done a fine job with the radio. The radio should look like it's in a 'suspended state of decay'. No piano finish on the cabinet, no chrome chassis. If you want a radio that looks old but brand new, you might as well buy one of those plastic Crosley recreations, with a USB port on it, right out of China. Thanks for the fun video! Keep up the nice work!
Nice looking video ,plays nice too,I saw a you tube video on how to make replacement knobs for old radios ,or you could buy a set of matching knobs ,with paint them or buy a set of black knobs. Me I have to find a replace ment tuner knob the one that came with my tube radio just shattered.
either that or it was in someone garage/shed and wasn't used much as its working quite fine, other then the wooden shell needing some paint or varnish it seems to be working good that and getting some all same screws to hold it in place
I have one of these it was my father's. Mine is in very good condition but for a small crack in the glass on the front. But I think one or more tubes are bad so I need to figure out which tubes, and where to get replacements.
I bought one of these today at an estate sale and its case is in much better condition that this one. It also works quite well, except the dial slips. Meaning when a person is trying to scale the different channels if starts to slip. I can reach through the back and move the dial by hand quite easily, but the front knob slips as you try to move from station to station. I cleaned all the dust and cobwebs out of it, so that can't be it. Any ideas for fixing that?
Great job! GE radios overall are good until they cheapened things up with the crappy IF cans with the SMD prone wafer capacitors. I've found that starting from the mid 50s until the end of the tube era circa 1967; it's IF they will develop SMD, it's WHEN.
Do you ever restore radios for other people? I have this exact radio that has been handed down to me from my grandparents. I am afraid to plug it in, and the number dial has shrunk and warped and no longer fits in. I would love to have this working, as for the cabinet part, I am capable and can redo that myself.

If I Can't Find old Classic Country On CD
THEN I Take Old Record Albums & Copy Them To CD.
