As someone who worked as an EMT for nine years this both amazes and terrifies me lol.. I LOVE what’s been done BUT I would need a TON of time to clean and disinfect the entire vehicle and all it’s compartments. Other than that this is amazing!
Finally a ujoint customer video about their van and how they like it and to see it off road as well. . . . BONUS ! ! Now if we could just get some more of them to share their experiences with their vans. Well done sir hope to see more videos from you.
Thank you for posting this video, It will be easier to try to talk my husband into buying the ambulance I found and converting it same as you did if he can see the finished product. I honestly would rather have your homey set up for our dirt bike trips (trailer behind) than dragging our huge toy hauler. Very nice, hope to see more.
I'm in the research phase at this point so I'm watching lots of videos. You have a very nice rig there! turning radius isn't a huge consideration for my use so I'd look for a truck chassis with stock 4x4 but it's nice to know this is possible. It's also nice to know it's possible to add a window or two. Thank you for posting your ambulance conversion videos.
I want an ambulance but not sure how to make it not look medical. This is awesome and love your choices. Looks like I will be looking for an ambulance. Great video.
Brilliant just brilliant Can you please explain the couch / bed. If you video it I’m sorry I didn’t see it. We have purchased an ambulance yet but we are going next week to look at one. We need a bed for 2 adults. Thanks in advance
This is the nicest ambulance conversion I've seen. The sleeping situation would be differentI need a bed that I wouldn't have to put together every every night is the ceiling high enough to put the bed above?
The cealing is about 6'2" so it would compromise head room if it was up there. The nice thing about building your own rig is there is no wrong way just your way. Everyone has there own opinion on the bed permanent and temporary, It seems about 50/50.
Did you do any insulation after you bought it, or do ambulances come really well insulated. I'm planning on building one out for snowboarding so I will be in some pretty cold areas. Would the stock insulation hold up?
Elijah Scott there are type 1/2/3 ambulances and have different ratings. Mine is nicely insulated and I have been vary impressed with the insulation. My niece had one when she was a competitive skier and she was all over northern america and Canada competing and loved how it worked. Mine was rated for 0-100 degrees conditions when I looked it up. I would figure out what kind you have and look up the specs.
Hi Pro Tint! LOVE your rig! I currently have a 4x4 ambulance that is set up as a dually in the rear, but I really would like to modify it so it is a single rear wheel like yours. Would you be willing to share your experience on how you went to SRW? Thank you!
Blake Zahn it was really pretty straight forward. I used unjoint offloads kit for the whole application front and rear axle. The rear axle was basically cutting the spring perches and shock mounts off the axle and welding new ones on it the correct position , making sure the pinion angle for the drive shaft was at the correct angle. I used the front and rear axle off of an excursion 2003 so I didn’t have to find a axle with the same gear ratio to match an existing axle. I am very glad that I did switch to a single axle because the width is much better off-road. I have chewed up the sides of my rims on rocks on tight trails and I don’t think I could have made it through them if it was a a dually.
Great conversion! I'm looking into doing something similar. How did you insure the vehicle? My ins company cannot find the VIN of the vehicle I'm looking to insure this cannot insure it.
Seth Wolfgang it's a rubberized synthetic tile with adhesive back available at Home Depot. It really looks like tile and is flexible to wrap around corners. I was concerned it would be a problem in the high heat we have here in Salt Lake City 105 deg. in the summer but it wasn't a problem at all. As with anything that is held on with adhesive preparation of the surface is very important. I used denatured alcohol to degrees the surfaces about three times before I installed it.
Very nice interior and build! Always wanted to build one but never had the chance. Any idea who manufactured the ambulance? This has to have the nicest interiors I have seen on ambulance conversions. So many individuals leave them as is but the spartan look is not my style. What, if any radios were left in the vehicle?
My husband and I are in the process of purchasing an ambulance for RV conversion and are having a very difficult time insuring it once the conversion is completed. How did you get your insured?
Di Vince when I registered it I had the do I as a e450 van. They didn’t even ask any questions so I guess I got lucky because I have had a few people mentioning having trouble. My niece bought one and had no problems either.
What is the ceiling height in your ambulance I'm interested in building a camper myself thought about an ambulance but I don't want to be able to stand up I'm almost 6'2" trying to figure out if I want to build an ambulance or short bus depends on ceiling height
I'm 5'10" and I have about 4" clearance, my niece has one and I can touch the roof with my head in hers. One guy I know is building one and his is like 6'9" inside so I think they very quit a bit.
It is the easiest part of the conversion, the spring perches had to be changed on the axle and I had to also add shock mounts. This all cam with the Ujoint kit I had made as well as instructions.
Andrew Smith it is synthetic wood/vinyl film. You can get it here. www.ebay.com/itm/like/161955521272?rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F711-53200-19255-0%252F1%253Ficep_ff3%253D2%2526pub%253D5575011129%2526toolid%253D16011%2526campid%253D5337096871%2526customid%253D7118766%2526icep_item%253D161955521272%2526ipn%253Dpsmain%2526icep_vectorid%253D229466%2526kwid%253D902099%2526mtid%253D824%2526kw%253Dlg%2526srcrot%253D711-53200-19255-0%2526rvr_id%253D1197835348791&rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F711-53200-19255-0%252F1%253Ficep_ff3%253D2%2526pub%253D5575011129%2526toolid%253D16011%2526campid%253D5337096871%2526customid%253D7118766%2526icep_item%253D161955521272%2526ipn%253Dpsmain%2526icep_vectorid%253D229466%2526kwid%253D902099%2526mtid%253D824%2526kw%253Dlg%2526srcrot%253D711-53200-19255-0%2526rvr_id%253D1197835348791&ul_noapp=true
You mentioned that you do window tinting is this stuff easy for a person that isn't used to working with film to apply? Is it holding up well? I really like the interior but it is hard to see the details of it. Are your cushions custom made? Thanks
It is a pretty forgiving material basically it is vinyl film like you see wrapped on cars. I checked the data sheet for it and it is commercial grade so it should hold up and has so far, you install it dry and it has air channels to get the bubbles out. probably the hardest part is making nice clean cuts on the edges and getting all of the surface covered and not having it show any of the previous surface/ color. I would watch some vinyl installation videos and make sure you take the time to prep the surfaces and i'm sure you could do it, just order more material than you will need in case you need to do it twice on some panels.
Seth Wolfgang I actually found led replacement bulbs for both high and low light settings that fit the existing dome lights. I think I replaced all of the bulbs in the interior for about 100.00.
Better to pull back end stuff out convert area into full size loft bed with storage underneath. Too much shift stuff around. Thats annoying. Shouldn't camper be more of a relaxing pre-made environment
The stupidest bed ideea. We got already much more tired than you moving all stuff to prepare the bed. I start sleeping thinking about how long takes me to go for sleep in so much shit stuff
Are you kidding me ? It took like a minute to convert to a bed . He has a bunch of living space when not a bed. Living space is much more important in a van .
I like how you reused or repurposed as much of the original equipment as you could. Nice build.
One of the better ambulance builds I've seen, good job, looks like a little cozy studio!
As someone who worked as an EMT for nine years this both amazes and terrifies me lol.. I LOVE what’s been done BUT I would need a TON of time to clean and disinfect the entire vehicle and all it’s compartments. Other than that this is amazing!

Great way to get where you want to go, wish that you could speak a little louder. Fantastic job just love it.
Looks great, wish I could hear what you're saying :(
Yeah. Some parts of the video he's almost whispering.

Ryan, Looking to convert a converting a used ambulance soon. Any info on how to insure my vehicle and what steps to take and who to recommend?
Ditto 🙂

You need to post more videos of this thing in action on the trail.
I was curious as to how you converted your sliding doors to hinged cabinet doors.
urbusted1112 mine were hinged already, I moved the hinges from the top of the frame to the side. Good luck!
Nice I like it 👍
Next video, speak louder please
I'm in search right now for aa diesel 4wd platform to build this type of vehicle really cool!
This is so cool!
Video not available? Did you get some footage of the build process? I like the layout shown in part 1 .well thought out! 🖒
I like the bed a fixture, awful pain doing all that changing around...
Thank you for the demonstration. What is the name of the cushion or where can I order them ?
Google "cushion" lol

What make of ambulance body is it? Most ambulances do not have enough headroom to stand up strait.
Cracking build
Great conversion! I'm looking into doing something similar. How did you insure the vehicle? My ins company cannot find the VIN of the vehicle I'm looking to insure this cannot insure it.
I insured mine as a RV and had no trouble. I hope you got it figured out.
Although that is a nice bed system, to log to set up.
What kind of piano hinges did you use for the bed?
gbrandong I think they were just the highest quality/price stainless from Lowe’s.
Hey where do you buy that material you put on the wall behind the sink/stove?
Seth Wolfgang it's a rubberized synthetic tile with adhesive back available at Home Depot. It really looks like tile and is flexible to wrap around corners. Thanks! It is a wheeled coach.
Yeah, windows and a place to put a exhaust fan was a issue for me getting one of these.....
Brock Burkett most ambos I've looked at have built in exhaust already in place as well as at least one vented compartment...
Great job, very nice. How is the gas mileage?
Thanks, about 12 and have reached 14.5 on road trips without mountains in the way
My husband and I are in the process of purchasing an ambulance for RV conversion and are having a very difficult time insuring it once the conversion is completed. How did you get your insured?

Tim Bryant type lll ambos have more headspace I think... Research to see...
I just bought an ambulance. i cant quite fully stand up and im 5'11.thats the "van" style one, though.
Get a sprinter
I'm 5'10" and I have about 4" clearance, my niece has one and I can touch the roof with my head in hers. One guy I know is building one and his is like 6'9" inside so I think they very quit a bit.
great video
Would you be able to run the AC off a small generator? Thanks
The AC is powered by the motor, the only way to run it is if its running.
What does it take to go from dual rear to single? I would like to do the same with mine.
It is the easiest part of the conversion, the spring perches had to be changed on the axle and I had to also add shock mounts. This all cam with the Ujoint kit I had made as well as instructions.
Did you just paint and refinish most of the original cabinets? What type of finish is that?
Thanks
Andrew Smith it is synthetic wood/vinyl film. Did you have to register your rig as a commercial vehicle or just a regular van?
Runs With Knives, just a regular van. I think I just told them it was a 97 ford e350 and gave them the vin #.
Cool, thanks for the reply. Looking for a van to build and hit the road in.
How did you get insurance for it? I’ve been having issues getting an insurance company to cover it.
Grant Kelly, I am through State Farm insurance and had no issues
very nice...where can i get 1???
freze myzer you would need to build one yourself or offer a guy like me enough money to let go of it😬
nice work..ill get something like it,probably have to pc.1 together from boneyard parts & my f250 7.3 psd....
someday
I like your build, but it so difficult to hear you. Perhaps a lapel microphone would help.
Love it
VOLUME?
Sweet rig! But I think with as much as you have invested in this build, you should remove the siren lights, and paint it an aggressive color.
Why are you whispering?
Nice!!!
Is there a reason why folks get these unattractive covers
You can LED replacement domes for ambulances here: www.kinequip.com/products/specialty-vehicle/lighting-and-led.html
Seth Wolfgang I actually found led replacement bulbs for both high and low light settings that fit the existing dome lights. I think I replaced all of the bulbs in the interior for about 100.00.
Oh nice. That I sent is what we use on our ambulances when we need to replace them. But glad you found some.
It would have been nice to hear what you were saying, lost interest, didn't know what your talking about.
I was unable to hear you for most of it
Better to pull back end stuff out convert area into full size loft bed with storage underneath. Too much shift stuff around. Thats annoying. Shouldn't camper be more of a relaxing pre-made environment

Hmm although it's cool just cant shake the thought of how many people died in there
Hazardbone. Or saved👍
Speak up, can’t hear you
