The last time we heard about a major effort to mine manganese nodules it was a cover story for the CIA's Project Azorian (aka Jennifer), the Hughes Glomar Explorer, and the Hughes Mining Barge - which coincidentally was later used by Lockheed as the drydock for building & housing the Sea Shadow. So, going to recover another lost sub? ;-) (I kid, it was just amusing.)
you'll need a shit loads, it's been 6years what impact has it made on the seabed, ecosystems and manufacturing harm to our environment I'd be interested to hear their findings
There might come a time when polymetallic nodules are farmed from seawater or brine. As well as being a source of various metals, it could also help address heavy metal pollution caused by runoff.
EV aren't green,Lithium batteries are dangerous and the industry doesn't have the facilities needed for recycling this materials from discarded batteries. #defendthedeep 😮
well if they produce oxygen it is probably a very bad idea to harvest them? the oceans could suffocate.
Doing my bachelors on this exact topic. Strange are the times that Lockheed Martin serve as part of my source material in geology.
did you end up concluding that this is the better source for EV batteries? and for other renewable energies
^
Goes to show much of a national security issue having access to rare earth metals is...
Haven't you done enough damage already?
Yes.

Rare earth metals will be the economic choke point of the future, not energy production as today.
I'm looking to buy some of these rocks and do testing
How can manganese nodule meet energy requirements ???

Manganese nodules contain metals to make high capacity lithium batteries for electric powered vehicles.
@@BarbaraClark312 but not everyone got permission from ISA and its only 0.2% permit for mining
The metals are components of electronics and things like solar cells too.
So sad... is it not enough that the surface is almost destroyed, and now you want to destroy the sea...

This will probably kill all life in the ocean

Where is the benefits of the destruction that makes profits and doesn't share those profits of destruction
