that bug where the character just climbs the wall was so funny to me, imagine if it didnt got fixed, and the speedrunners just pull out some crazy tricks with that bug to skip like 3 levels
I mean.. I can't promise I fixed it... everywhere :'D We'll have to wait and see
@@saultoons “And just like that the community was in remiss. There was no better speedrun than this. This was it. _Until September sixteenth when Garby Garblin rediscovered the wall climbing glitch.”_
No
Whoaa the background art is looking awesome! Can't wait to watch RUclipsrs play this
Thanks a lot it’s getting there!!!
Nice, this game will be absolute disaster to streamers and players😂. I hope there are some safe areas in the game to heal my mind and rest
The safe area is found under steam -> application -> uninstall
Im so happy to see your devlogs everytime
Thanks for watching Maber :D
@@saultoonsMy interests match your interests 100%.
I think I can provide you with thousands of ideas and stories that make for a game
Because I saw you struggle with making ideas

ah yes, the game making process lol. nice to see you making some progress saul, have you thought about releasing a demo so you get get more feedback early? would love to give that a shot!
I'm starting the closed playtesting process this week! I've just created a form for those who want to get involved, so make sure you join the discord to apply. We also sometimes do open community demo's during streams for limited time, but no official demo yet, but it is in the plans, more on this in future videos!
This game looks awesome, it's better than Jump King for sure lol
Do you have a name yet for the flower?
You should name him something like...
...
...
...
Peapot or flowey
No name yet… maybe… ever 👀
Love the devlogs. Game looks ridiculously hard, but then Only Up is a viral hit so maybe that's alright
These games attract a very particular audience I think, sometimes they're better watched than played for some people - doesn't necessarily mean it will sell well, I just hope people have fun playing or watching it at least :'D
seems like you're making so much progress! really glad to see it :)
Getting there! More to come soon hopefully 😄
“It’s time. To squash. These. F*cking. Bugs. Oh that was easier than I thought” - unexpected bald man 2023
I’m really proud of all the work you have put into this game and the pride you have taken in it. I’m also happy that I could be apart of the design process and have helped to inspire you on this amazing game. It’s been amazing watching your streams and I hope you make amazing progress in the future. Keep on grinding bald man.
Let's go Master Player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
did you put my idea in the game? (moving platforms)
did you put my idea in the game? (moving platforms)
Love this! I think to help with the problem of players being overwhelmed by new scenery could 100% be "Break points" or literal "Brakes" in the level design that stop your movement until you press the jump/action button again. I think it's good to consider that the game you're inspired by (Jump king) let's you take all the time you need, and adds suspense to the player and the people watching. Having places that hold you until you're ready could also add for level design that involves moving platforms and correct timing if you wanted to do that. I think there's many benefits to adding this in and you still wouldn't lose the fast paced feel as long as you don't plant these everywhere.
There are ‘buckets’ in the game that I’ve shown briefly in this video, they are basically break areas in the level design where you move back and forth and you need to jump out of them to continue. Though I have thought about adding little cutscenes or breaks in new sections as natural breaks too! :)
its missing something
also HOLY SHIT IAM IN THRE SPINIE THATS ME!!!! IAM IN HERE

Professional bug killer! The music choice was really good to this playtest part of the video, I enjoyed the feeling. I hope a good music will help the game also after the release, it will give a lot to make it not stressful. So hyped for the release of this game good luck for the rest of work!
Thanks :D Yeah some nice music will be important for sure!
these devlogs make me want to make 100 games, and finish 0 games
Hahahaha yo tell me about it it’s so hard to finish a game too many ideas
for story wise you should make NPC that tells the story of the game , and give the player the time to Rest
Cool idea!
This looks awesome! I've been watching for a while, and your devlogs inspire me to work on my game! Thank you for the motivation!
Glad to hear it!
how about cutscenes like “angry birds star wars” to tell the story
I'll have to check those out to see if it's within my scope! :D Thanks for the suggestion
Idk if you have a name for your character yet, but I would suggest either Spring or Flow.
Spring since they jump and Spring the season. Or Flow as a play on Flower and the flow needed to make each jump.
A really nice video, looking forward to more. Came up with a question while watching it, what tool/site do you use for the bugs and To-Do's you've showed in the videos?
For example at second 0:10 ? ^^
Awesome video!!
Just wondering which software you used at 1:37 to check your progress 😄😄 I always try different ones and can never pick a good one
I would love to see moments where your character would stop moving! Maybe have a moment to pause and take a break during something like a shop that appears after you reach a certain height.
Or special blocks that when you jump on them, they'll stop your character from moving so you can time your jumps!
I've been binging your devlogs and it's been so fun to watch the journey! I see you occasionally show clips of Notion to organize your game planning. I'm a huge fan of Notion and was wondering if you ever plan on giving a peek at your setup?
sending luv from Brazil
Obrigado! :D
Make it forest themed and the player should have mechanics like chopping down trees in front him, drilling down underground do some horizontal levels.
For the story it's a small baby flower who has shrunken by the shrinking spirit or mushroom and must climb up high to become big. make some boss fights like a huge ant.
Add some water areas, some tree trunk areas, some ant hills areas, some big worm that the player fights
The whole gimmick should be that the player is really small and by clearing some areas he becomes bigger it will surely make the game great.
there could be leaking taps or pipes and you catch the water droplets as a collectible item or checkpoint idk
Great devlog. Love it!
Thanks a lot Natahaniel!
Lmao keep some of these bugs as a feature
Seems to work well for Only Up ;) hahahaha jk

Time to squash these [REDACTED] bugs... It was actually a lot easier than I thought.
I had a moment like that where I went through my game and polished it for like 2 hours and wiped out 99% of the bugs.... Truly satisfying. Congrats on the major progress!
Thanks 4P yeah super satisfying to get rid of some of those issues for sure 🤣 also closed testing starting soon if you’re on the discord (rip ur account) there’s a form there
Awesome dev log! What software are you using to track your progress?
Notion :)
Hi!! I want to work on a game but my organization skills are terrible :( , any tips on improving my skills??? Like any software that’s easy and simple that will help me improve my time management skills?? Any help will be appreciated :0
I use Notion for all of my task management and would definitely recommend it (not sponsored haha)
Thank u for sharing your dev-journey, i learn a lot about solve issues and problems without losing motivation and staying focused. You are so talented. Great work man!! So much love from Morocco.
Thanks for the love
I'd highly recommend (instead of walls to jump back against to turn around) a checkpoint system that you could warp to - maybe a little sun lamp or a seed pod that your character could grow from? That way if you feel your run backsliding, you can just hit a key and warp back to a certain point. There don't have to be a ton of these, just enough to keep the give from being completely unforgiving.
No checkpoints! Appreciate the suggestion though

Nice Video Cant wait the next Devlog / Your Loyal Subscriber 😄
Thanks so much! Appreciate your support :D
Kind of wish you showed how you went about solving your bugs, seeing your thought process behind debugging has helped me with my coding projects in the past. But excellent video I’m excited to try the game!
That was going to be my original plan Benk, however I decided against it because the solutions to a lot of these bugs was super specific to my player system, which basically just meant I had to read and reread my code and rewrite a couple of areas - one bug was fixed by simply putting the correct boolean in the correct place. Another because the spelling was messed up, etc. Just little fiddly bits of spaghetti code, the process is the same for all... Bash my head against the desk until I spot the error :'D
Really looking forward to seeing speedruns of this game. Looks amazing!
You and me both! :D There have been some pretty fun ones from the closed playtesting recently
A checkpoint would be good
yay! I'm in the video XD. omg this game is sooooo hard and high paced but i really like those puzzles you are making. good luck on your journey :)
hahaha you made it! :'D Thanks! 😄
When i doing gamedev , and i see a bug in my game , i stop everything, i doing and focus on the bug, because it my may fly off the screen.
Ok , but being serious right now, i hate bugs so i try to always fix them as fast as possible , to not accumulate bugs and make the gameplay experience bad to players.
Yeah I tend to squash bugs as soon as they happen as well, but this time a lot have been popping up, sometimes it happens when there are a lot of features in the game!
Great stuff as always! You've made some fantastic progress and the level design looks awesome! Keep up the good work!
Thanks a ton!
the game looks great! what's the tool being used for dev progress and bug tracking?
Hi Andy, thanks a lot! I use Notion for all of my task management (game dev + youtube + real life :'D ) would definitely recommend as it's all in one place (kanban boards, to-do, calendar, etc) also not sponsored haha
I think having it so the player can jump through the bottom of some platforms to land on top would help alleviate some of the frustration of hitting your head on a jump
We have corner correction for that!
completely unrelated but what size are ur ears lmfao, im currently stretching mine and im impressed with how good urs look, im guessing like,,, 2-0g?
ahah my ears were a 0g I believe, I've taken them out now because I kept sleeping on the left side weird and it got all infected and I couldn't be bothered hahaha they're shrinking quite a lot and might even close up naturally. I had them for a good 5/6 years. Good luck with yours!!! :D
What was that checklist looking tool you were using to keep track of progress fixing bugs at 1:30 in the video?
Notion! :) I use it for most task management stuff
Wee little idea, add in a telescope to stop your character automatically & give players the opportunity to rest & look at some of the level like in Mario Odyssey
Yeah that's a cool idea! Will think more on it
Just found your channel. Looking forward to follow your progress.
Thanks for watching!

*you have 0 bugs*
hahaha true!!!! spelling mistakes and little bools in the wrong place :|
if i make a game like this for my undergrad thesis will this impress my professors and at least good enough for thesis defense? idk
Tbh I’ve seen games like this do poorly in terms of game design critique as they’re not very considerate to giving players a fun experience. Jump King got rated quite poorly by Game Design critics. Foddians are for a very particular type of gamer, who enjoy the insane challenge and are too stubborn to give up (like me haha) - so for a university project it may not be the best type of game to produce as you’re most likely going to be met with a lot of ‘why didn’t you include checkpoints’ ‘this isn’t fun it’s just painful’ etc 🤣 as I have gotten, however for me it’s about creating the experience I imagine, not creating incredible game design or trying to hit game design targets or whatever
@saultoons what is that app or website you use to track your progress with a todo list and percentages, would help me a lot thanks!
It’s Notion, I use it for all my task management stuff
Actually, I am creating a short film right now with bugs everywhere too :))
Sounds fun!
I love the flower path that grows while you move. I hope there is a "score" for the amount of land flower-ified. It will encourage some non-conventional routing that aren't purely speed-driven.
There is! There'll be a percentage of area covered stat for completion purposes, and also collectables to allow you to explore (while you fall, a lot :'D )
@@saultoons PS: It might be fun to retain the coyote-required jump for completing 100% land coverage, but have normal progress not hindered
Just pull a Mojang: “it’s not a bug, it’s a feature!”
hahah sometimes bugs are better than the main game
Subscribing this channel was a great decision! 🧡
Appreciate you
Cool devlog! I'll be checking it out for sure when it releases (:

This game is going to be like an instant classic rage game
I think a lot of people will hate it, and I look forward to that
What did you think of High Risers?
I've actually never played it, but after searching, that company makes one of my favourite mobile games: wall kickers! so I'll check it out :D Constant movement and skill based platforming is a lot of fun so I'm sure I'll enjoy it :)
I love your devlogs keep it going very excited for the game
Thanks so much, hope to increase production a little over here so should be more on the way soon!!
Super fun devlog, keep up the good work!!!
Thanks so much we're getting there!!!
Amazing editing as always! Very excited for Faceplant 😁
In regards to the question "how do i tell a story for this game": you might seriously consider having much of it narrated! I think a gentle "story-time" vibe would accompany the difficult platforming really well! Of course, elements of the story could be illustrated into the backgrounds as well, but like you said, the movement is so "busy" that *too much* detail would defo get lost to players actively playing through!
Story time vibe is such a great idea! I would love to narrate it! I guess my biggest concern with that is audio localisation, I don’t have the funds to get it translated into different languages and don’t want to put some people off from playing it if it’s not in their native tongue
@@saultoons that would pose a problem! I thought translated subtitles would be fine for English narration, but the players eyes will be keeping up with the daisy instead!
Maybe, when the game's out and you accrue some sale revenue, you could invest then!
Or perhaps you could kickstart or otherwise crowdfund when the project is near completion, and count those as preorders as well!
In that case, it could be good to see what your demographics are, so you're catering to the most interested parties for languages to translate to!
This is all hypothetical typespit from me, though! Whatever path you choose for telling your story will work out!
(also, apologies for the long reply!)
Loved this video! Keep them coming❤
Thanks a lot

cool video saul! now we wait for the release

Regarding the "waiting to turn around" issue, I wonder if you could speed up that process by assigning an "intended direction" to each floor piece. So if the player walks in the wrong direction, the floor piece automatically turns them round so they can quickly try again. For areas where you want floors to be reused in both directions, you'd need to disable this feature and communicate that visually in some way. Another alternative would be to grant the player the ability to turn around once for each X tiles they fall down. This would reduce the pain of falling multiple levels, giving the player a compensatory reward to get back to where they were. Either approach would reduce the need for the "turnaround walls" you've added, tighten the gameplay loop and get the player back to the fun more quickly.
I guess, but I'm not trying to make it too easy, the whole point is still to be able to fall all the way back down if you make a mistake and can't recover using your skill.
@@saultoons Of course! It's your design choice. Might be worth testing with a couple of people as an alternative design, or as an accessibility option.
this might be a dumb question but did you do any class for project management? they way you tweak your agenda is really nice and inspiring to see !
No real class for project management just things I've picked up over the years from school and work I guess. I find kanban boards, to do lists, and gantt charts especially helpful! I also just like staying organised haha it makes a large project like this feel less overwhelming when I can focus on smaller chunks :'D
@@saultoons that is crazy ! props to you man !

@@saultoons You're welcome!! Thanks!
Will it be on google play?
Yes hopefully!
3:05 an idea for the back ground is that the since the plant is escaping the facility why not seem like its sort of transitioning from a ngiht time to a day time. and the day time woul mean ur close to the end of finish like how plants open up in the day but close at night
It’s a cool idea but the plant is not escaping the facility and there’s another story in place! More revealed in the future
@@saultoons still exciting
Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks! Will do!
great progress man
Thank you!
Thank you so much for making devlog videos, it's really useful to see how others manage their game development progress. As for the story telling, i think the easiest but not the most creative approach, is to add cutscenes with characters and text bubbles at certain levels, maybe even resting points so that at the end of the cutsene the player won't start moving suddenly. if you don't like the idea of resting points, then maybe some signs scattered around that tell hints of the story (although that alone isn't enough).
edit: to clarify what i meant about cutscenes, this was what i had in mind "Making Cutscenes is So Easy With My New Custom Plugin! | Devlog", a video by 'Game Endeavor' and his approach to adding cutsenes.
No problem thanks for watching!
Yeah I've been thinking of cutscenes, I think I want to avoid text bubbles or speech though as it will make localisation a lot harder and expensive (something I can't do :'D ) so I think perhaps unspoken cutscenes will be the way forward
maybe make a version for android and IOS?
Definitely planned!
