Such an awesome place it is. Perfect place to be after retirement. It's peaceful Island. Please post more videos of St Helena, Acension and Tristan Da Cunha Islands. 🤩😍🙂
Island-wide speed limit is 30mph (48kph) and in many places it's 20mph (32kph), but I'm told that the maximum speed ever (illegally) achieved on the island was 120mph (200kph) - on one of the winding roads!
That MK2 escort at the start, superb! I used to own one! Ive always wanted to visit Saint Helena, soak in the islander life and escape the modern world.
@@rjp801 well I don't mean that since the ship stopped, there is no way to access the island. I just mean that the experience of a long ship ride is different than a short flight and I was hoping to use the ship but then discovered that it's gone
Oh, the memories! Going up Ladder Hill Road, passing the Fort, then up past Half Tree Hollow, and further, a lovely drive. I did the 5-day voyage from Cape Town to St Helena, on the ship RMS St Helena, spent 8 days on the island, b/b with a local resident, then 5 days back home, what a holiday! I do hope that the airport doesn't spoil the lovely Saints!
Yeah well if I do decide to emigrate there for my NINTH emigration I guarantee you you'll have a cinema AND a stock exchange there. And more. None of this small-time rinky-dink Kabuki bullshit. Looks to me like a place that needs order and DISCIPLINE.
@@MultiPorkpie Import it but that is going to be very expensive. In general, everything on this island is much more expensive because it is one of the most remote places in the world.
This in some respects caught an end of an era for the island, as the airport round about this time was opening. I was in St Helena about 4 years before this video was taken and everything up the winding road up Jamestown to Half Tree Hollow is exactly as I remember it.
Where do they get the cars? Who maintains them? Who maintains the roads? What about auto accidents? Where is closest hospital? It looks really beautiful and very remote.
EXCELENTE Y PANORAMICO VIDEO DEL RECORRIDO DE LA ISLA REMOTA DE SANTA ELENA, ESPECTACULARES VISTAS MUY LINDA Y MARAVILLOSAS POR CIERTO, GRACIAS A UD SEÑOR LARS BOE HEWEG HANSEN HICE TURISMO SIN SALIR DE CASA. SALUDOS DESDE LIMA PERÚ.
I grew up in a village surrounded by green forests and imagining myself living in a place where trees are scarce gives me anxiety. It's a very beautiful island though, thanks for sharing this video.
That truck in front is flying around blind curves on that mountainside road, which was scary enough when I assumed it was a one way street. Now I know it’s a two way road and the driver is just nuts
The Saints on the island say you would - just get used to it. I keep thinking they should start an off road race and publicize it to the world once the new undersea high speed fiber internet link is completed, which is expected sometime in 2022. The problem is, someone might actually go 'off road', so to speak.
Great video! But ...the way the guy in front of you in the beginning was speeding around those turns without being able to see if anyone was coming or not...pretty scary!
American-style pay phone and phone booth. If it were not for the driving on the left, it would look a lot like some of the more remote small towns in Eastern Canada
You’d like Tobago. There’s ONE main road on the island and that goes around it. For the same reason, it’s impossible to lose your way driving. If you’re not sure, continue straight until you arrive where you started.
I served in HMS Puma based at Simonstown, Cape Town. Visited St Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan de Cunha in 1962. No cars on St Helena then.
I think this is the best place for an introvert like me
Me too.

The air coming in the window of the car gives a air of freshness to this video - thanks
I find it amazing how fast they drive on the winding roads

And climb Jacobs ladder...
Each video i watch makes me want to go more... just a shame i caught on after the ship stopped
bull crap - it is easier than ever to get there and cheaper...

I know it is a very old comment but now there are flights to St. Helena. There are not very many but they do fly multiple times a week.

Vivienne hart Fantastic, lucky You! I'd love to go
beautiful
@@joschkahurst, even if not born there, the island has a special feel. Do you live there?
We did the trip in 2014 .. only 3 days on the island ... but a time never to forget !!!
I drove this exact street in Google Earth, amazing place, so nice to get to actually see it as a video, thanks for posting!
- Los Angeles
you did not drive it - you live in a video fake reality
Yeah my dad was born here and when we went there. There is NO better place.
Nearest cinema: 3000 km.

LoL
My god that was beautiful....and exhilarating ..thanks for posting
You know you're in a small island when a license plate says "430".
Saw a video with a ford van with the license plate “10” hahahahahah
@@KingJoshuaTheGreat in my country you buy lower numbered plates and the mayor usually takes 1, 2 and 3
How would you buy a brand new car

Thanks for this fantastic video, my heart was crying watching this lovely video saying please take me to St Helena island
I wish I was there someday.
Great catch of the L Plate, and also impressive drop!
Beautiful footage. I have to visit this little island and see it for myself one day.
This in some respects caught an end of an era for the island, as the airport round about this time was opening. I was in St Helena about 4 years before this video was taken and everything up the winding road up Jamestown to Half Tree Hollow is exactly as I remember it.
Walked along that road ❤ thanksforbringing back the memories 😊

Not sure but most probably S Africa since there's a ferry from and to St Halena.
This is the first video I’ve seen of St Helena’s high country. Thanks
Beautiful Island.And so much Landrover Defender,also beautiful.👌

Fantástico, nem parece o lugar mais isolado do mundo!
E não é. Você está confundindo com Tristão da Cunha. Isso aí é Santa Helena.
😁Great to see this! Thanks for sharing, please make more videos?! 🕊🌸🍥
This is great. Cheers for the video.
Now, that is a hill climb! St Helena rally anyone? Could become a thing :-)
I dont think it would have the infrastructure required for a rally. Lots of shipping and stuff. Very costly
I propose that the Tour de France stop by instead.
Lovely video. Thank You! Hoping to visit one day...Great to see the old Escorts still going... many old cars around still?
I have a 93 XR3 here in Brazil. Since new in my family!
Great car! I don't sell for nothing in this world.
Watch as I blow through the STOP sign 12 seconds into my drive! I'm now qualified to drive in California. Awesome!!
Beautiful place. Greetings from Brazil!
Thank you very much!
This is better then other documentaries
I wish one day i can visit st helena,
On a scooter would be an awesome and fun way to get around!
It´s really fun to see all these old fiestas and Escort´s being driven all over the island, trully reliable cars.
The island is a colony of Britain but its South African in so many ways, the people, the houses. the food. An extention of the Cape Flats.
Thanks for posting it !!!!!
What an awesome drive.
Guyanese?
Wow so exciting and thrilling
I love it

Reminds me of driving The Conors Pass on the way to Dingle in County Kerry in Ireland.
a very nice road :)

False speed impression probably.

Reminded me of the canary islands, albeit driving on the left.
Its like la Palma
Que maravilhosa ilha parabéns aos santos.
The owners of those cars could
Make a fortune selling back to the U.K., those Escort MK2’s superb!!

Beautiful alash if I could visit there

The driver keeps going upwards forever, and the top never comes, then when I think is come to the top he stops, shit!
Just had the same thought😀😀
Can you make one like that going downhill?
very cool place
I am Indian tamil most beautiful st halina
Wow, is Jamestown here? I’m someday wanna go to Saint Helena!
Fico imaginando como foi feito essa pavimentação, infra estrutura, saneamento, saúde e trabalho.
Vivem de que? Qual a economia?
Beautiful
Those Ford escorts are worth thousands ✌️
do they have automobile workshops and repair/service centers..
Tommy Rottweiler yes...
Well, first impression of the island: no one stops at the stop signs.
Reminds me of driving along the N Cornish coast 30 years ago
build a village and civilization. I really want and love living on a desert island like this.
美丽的地方。
Interesting video! I imagine a brake failure would be a pretty hair-raising experience on those roads.
wow that a very narrow road.
Full of old fords ...nice

Please can I extract this video to use as a route on the Rouvy online cycling platform? Your other videos too?
I bet gas is expensive there.
Which kind of country is this life style
Maybe its just me but it seems like there are a lot of cars for such a small island.
¿Alguien sabe si Snta.Elena tiene casos de coronavirus?
Hasta ahora no ha habido ningun caso www.sainthelena.gov.sh/coronavirus-covid-19-live-qa/
gasoline must be very expensive here.
Island is beutiful. From Whiich country direct flight connection available to this island?
Johannesburg South Africa...

Ok, I'd like to know how 19 people so far, would give this video a thumbs down? You don't like St. Helena, the geography the wind, the clouds? DUH!
0.37. What's a stop sign? Just a bit of decoration. It seeme stop signs are ignored everywhere. 😊
Algum dia, gostaria muito de conhecer. Show 👍
Looks like South Africa
Came across St Helena by accident.. enjoyed a lot
By accident. Out swimming, were you?
Police: Who ran you off the road sir?
Motorist: It was 2946 officer.
Nice!
where from they get thier fuel and how they deal with sewage from their homes. and how they get different goods into the island
do they have internet there?
Yes, slow though. Last I looked was 20 mb/s shared by the entire island. Apparently an uplink to sattelites.
They should be only one company, Toyota. Its a remote island thus reliability and spare parts will be a major concern.
The road seems to be very dangerous and vertiginous...
Rush hour must be nuts on those roads...5 minute Road rage...
You would think you would see Mike after mile of solar panels and wind generators.
Where do they get their fuel?
Scary street .. looks silent city.. no people walking on the street..
St Helena is a remote island!
Only around 4000 inhabitants.
Current vacancies:
Electric car salesman
Parking attendant
Blimey the roads are better than the North of Scotland, the SNP can't be there might think of moving
o que podem fazer numa ilha dessa?
