Sounds like it's basically the same style of game as Grow Up and Grow Home. Basically a type of 3D platformer with a metroidvannia spin to it. Though those games lack fighting as they are more just adventure.
I’d rather play one long epic game than 5 or so of these average games with excessive repetition and simpleton game loops. Old or not, I prefer quality, story and complexity over quantity, superficialness and simple mechanics.

20min is actually short for a proper review. long will be abot 40-60min In-depth analysis. I will rather watch a 20min in-depth review than several 5min-style reviews Last year i watched Avengers:EndGame, hell the film was long! 3hr for a movie ! 2hr is already pretty long. With 3hr of content you could actually make a season of a series and further expand on the setting/universe. I actually looked at the cklock several times.

I really like the artstyle of this game, it looks pretty without being overly detailed Edit: 10:00 ah yes, I also hate that overly cluttered map and UI, would be nice if all game have less obtrusive UI version or turn off specific detail so that I could enjoy the beautiful world, MHW Iceborne is a good example, I'm glad that they add option of turning which UI on and off though I wish I could also change their size and stuff, also need mod to remove/reduce scoutflies effect and also mod to toggle the UI on and off with just a button which used to be a feature in older game

The world design reminds me of Ratchet and Clank. Had a $25.00 credit sitting on my psn account for a month now. I think this'll be what I'll use it on.
A couple great small things about the coop is that it automatically highlights a different quest for each of you, and lets you travel pretty far apart (only stopping you from going where a new region would have to be loaded). Downside being it's not drop-in/out despite saves being usuable in single or coop play, so if one person leaves or disconnects the other player gets booted.
Every frigging video is top notch quality. Unbelievably good writing, selection of instrumentals and just...genuinely well thought out content as always.

I walked in on my brother playing this, he said I bought a new game and our xbox's share games so I let it download while I ate my dinner and here I am an hour later having good fun with it, it's nice and chill and a nice change of pace. Not everything needs to be complex and and serious and I welcome it.

Finished this game in 14.5 hours with %100 everything. The reason is I refused to look up anything about the game. Last 5 things in Kindex(Codex of this game) took around 4-5 hours to find. If I knew what was I looking I could finish this game %100 in 10-12 hours and I normally finish games slower than average. I liked the game though. Played almost nonstop. Very, very funny dialogs and videos. Just make sure you listen everything the AI says. Don't scan a couple of things at once and wait for AI to finish her sentence for each one. Even in upgrades. Getting pistol was pretty funny. Edit: Ah, I forgot to say this: Hoping to see you in MOBAMOBAMOBA MOBILE VR. THE UNRELENTING GAME.

That it is not a super long game is perhaps something that gives it more appeal. There are a lot of games out there that are just too long and lose their charm along the way. However, I think 10-20 hours of gameplay is preferable. Unless it's a mmo game, the end game should be interesting for longer hours.
Aisar87 only the childish ones that allow exclusivity control the games they play even though they are gems like this game. I think you wayyyy over exaggerate how many people never touch the epic store. If it was actually as avoided as you say then it wouldn’t be very successful at this point, which is obviously not the case

Of course there's a lot of people who don't care, they can shop wherever they want. We all know the average consumer supports terrible businesses and practices in every kind of industry. I felt captivated , entertained and amused the entire time. This game is a 10/10 gem for me, sure is not a perfect game or a game that is on par with some other triple A titles but... I felt so fucking good during the entire gameplay. It is such a breeze of fresh air man.
I'm glad this is not a long game. There are too many games out there now that require tons of hours. I rather play a good short game versus one that unnecessarily extends playing time.
It’s a good game I’ve put about 6hrs so far and having lots of fun. I made the mistake by being a smart ass by picking the dog as the main character. It’s a dog person lol. But I admire that because it’s funny as hell to hear a dog whimper and bark as you get hit. Lol

Funny how developpers end up making kinda similar alien planets when they try to make something original and "alien". Feels like we've seen that already. Glowy things, giant mushrooms, crystals, floating rocks and stuff, aquatic flora used outside of water, etc.
I searched for this game on steam the moment you said it was co-op and nothing showed up then you said Epic Games and my interest dropped to zero. You might not care, and I can respect that, but a fair amount still do.

If you have Games Pass honestly just download it and give it a try, you can figure out if you like it within the first 10 mins and if not ditch it, but if you do like it they are releasing DLC so there is more to enjoy once you're done
For all it's merits, I feel like my biggest knock against it, is that it's too short. Don't get me wrong, a game doesn't have to be bloated or long, but this game I feel very much could've been longer. I'd love to have this world with some of the elements of no man's sky and a lengthier campaign.

First person platforming you say. That's a nope for me. I have issues with heights. I've always had issues with platformers even way back in the 8-bit era. First person platforming makes my sphincter clinch tighter than something that clinches tight.

I like the video, not the game. I dislike Ralph (for his political opinions) so I don't follow him on tweeter, but love and trust most of his opinions about games. For some people is just too difficult to appreciate things for what they are, instead of by where did they come from (or who made it, in this case).

Since you mentioned lack of co-op games allow me to introduce you to Outward, a Survival/RPG which can entirely be played Co-op (couch co-op or online), i looked for a review by your channel for it by i didn't find one, maybe you can check it out and review it (it might be a late review but the game is still worth highlighting)
Morbius The Menace if people didn’t buy from epic then it wouldn’t be as successful as it is. I know you probably hate hearing this, but there are MANY more people that are okay with using epic game store than you realize because they don’t allow petty exclusivity squabbles to dictate what games they play. You can keep “boycotting” epic as much as you want, but it isn’t going to do anything that you want it to.
There are many morons in the industry that I agree with you. Otherwise EA or Activision for that matter wouldn't be around anymore. There are however many people that see the impact of Epics shady tactics on the industry and not support it.
Upgrade based platformer with sections of light/medium combat with a few bosses and tons of collectibles. Areas are locked off metroidvania style and you eventually get scanner upgrades that show you the locations of collectibles so you can get them. The game implies some shame or consequence in not 100%’ing it but there isn’t any real consequences. It’s basically the devs way of saying ‘p-pwease would yuw pway all our content uwu’ I enjoyed the game but some of the areas were confusing and although the snarky A.I. and very interesting world building, I’m not bothering to gather every bit of goop, sorry devs.
I'm actually glad in a way for your takes in soft defense of capitalism, I was worried I'd found the actually perfect game reviewer. Nope, human being like anyone else. Still love your content, still great video, still eager to watch more and hear your considered, excellent, and principled takes. @@mayman4255 Please look at the previous Laymen Gaming vids, especially when this whole thing started, there is a video from Dec 2018. Ralph had a very strong opinion about the store, how it is affecting the gaming landscape and while not saying he will boycott them, you can definitely see a steady decline to his opinion from "this is not how go about it", to this. When you are reporting on some of their decisions and saying they were bad, and they are hurting the industry, and Ralph being in gaming industry, but you are still buying and using their product doesn't really hold up your criticism because it can't be that bad if you are using them. So while he can still have his point, it is diminished because he could be reviewing other games, ones which are not exclusive to the Epic store. But I agree he is not a hypocrite as he did not ever say he will not use the store front.

He criticizes Epic's business practices for potentially hurting the gaming industry (which in my opinion, isn't true,as PC gaming is large enough to have competition similar to console wars) but him having negative thoughts about it doesn't mean he can't purchase the games which are on the launcher,to review them and make a living. You can choose a different launcher/store front to get your games which do not employ a poor ethic, you definitely have no say for a non-sweatshop phone, or just don't own a phone or any piece of electronic.
BREATHEDGE is much funnier, it’s survival for one, crafting, vehicles, multiple chapters. I think it’s a minimum 20+ hours of play. Price vs value, BREATHEDGE all day.

Just picked this game up as its on sale. My friend got it as well and we've been enjoying exploring the world together.
This is the type of adventure I was dreaming of when No Man's Sky was first announced.

If you have Games Pass honestly just download it and give it a try, you can figure out if you like it within the first 10 mins and if not ditch it, but if you do like it they are releasing DLC so there is more to enjoy once you're done
For all it's merits, I feel like my biggest knock against it, is that it's too short. Don't get me wrong, a game doesn't have to be bloated or long, but this game I feel very much could've been longer. I'd love to have this world with some of the elements of no man's sky and a lengthier campaign.

First person platforming you say. That's a nope for me. I have issues with heights. I've always had issues with platformers even way back in the 8-bit era. First person platforming makes my sphincter clinch tighter than something that clinches tight.
I wouldn't say the platforming is difficult just enjoyable to swing around

To all those who like this game - try out Supraland. It's almost the same, but with a better game design. Both games are good though.

I like the video, not the game. I dislike Ralph (for his political opinions) so I don't follow him on tweeter, but love and trust most of his opinions about games. For some people is just too difficult to appreciate things for what they are, instead of by where did they come from (or who made it, in this case).

@@darboboyle693 LOL (don't know if he is vegan), at some point just didn't like him (just on twitter) making some political takes, so I stopped following, not that I care him being left or right wing, but he was using the SkillUp account for political opinions, he even said that it was his personal account, but hey, SkillUp is not a person's name, he should consider it a trademark. So....that's why I just watch his videos. But also, I guess it was easier because I try to get away from twitter as it's nonsense most of the time....and some news from time to time.

Since you mentioned lack of co-op games allow me to introduce you to Outward, a Survival/RPG which can entirely be played Co-op (couch co-op or online), i looked for a review by your channel for it by i didn't find one, maybe you can check it out and review it (it might be a late review but the game is still worth highlighting)

Morbius The Menace if people didn’t buy from epic then it wouldn’t be as successful as it is. I know you probably hate hearing this, but there are MANY more people that are okay with using epic game store than you realize because they don’t allow petty exclusivity squabbles to dictate what games they play. You can keep “boycotting” epic as much as you want, but it isn’t going to do anything that you want it to.
There are many morons in the industry that I agree with you. Otherwise EA or Activision for that matter wouldn't be around anymore. There are however many people that see the impact of Epics shady tactics on the industry and not support it.
Upgrade based platformer with sections of light/medium combat with a few bosses and tons of collectibles.
Areas are locked off metroidvania style and you eventually get scanner upgrades that show you the locations of collectibles so you can get them.
The game implies some shame or consequence in not 100%’ing it but there isn’t any real consequences.
It’s basically the devs way of saying ‘p-pwease would yuw pway all our content uwu’
I enjoyed the game but some of the areas were confusing and although the snarky A.I. and very interesting world building, I’m not bothering to gather every bit of goop, sorry devs.
I'm actually glad in a way for your takes in soft defense of capitalism, I was worried I'd found the actually perfect game reviewer. Nope, human being like anyone else. Still love your content, still great video, still eager to watch more and hear your considered, excellent, and principled takes. You stood up a lot of times when people tried to shout you down, only to later realize you were just right (Fallout 76).

Buying a video game on a launcher != being hypocritical or diminishing a point,if I like Apple and buy their phones and know about their sweatshops am I a hypocrite? no,all phone companies already have sweatshops yet I can still criticise them for having them.
@@mayman4255 Please look at the previous Laymen Gaming vids, especially when this whole thing started, there is a video from Dec 2018. Ralph had a very strong opinion about the store, how it is affecting the gaming landscape and while not saying he will boycott them, you can definitely see a steady decline to his opinion from "this is not how go about it", to this. When you are reporting on some of their decisions and saying they were bad, and they are hurting the industry, and Ralph being in gaming industry, but you are still buying and using their product doesn't really hold up your criticism because it can't be that bad if you are using them. So while he can still have his point, it is diminished because he could be reviewing other games, ones which are not exclusive to the Epic store. But I agree he is not a hypocrite as he did not ever say he will not use the store front.

He criticizes Epic's business practices for potentially hurting the gaming industry (which in my opinion, isn't true,as PC gaming is large enough to have competition similar to console wars) but him having negative thoughts about it doesn't mean he can't purchase the games which are on the launcher,to review them and make a living.
Not to mention he's reviewing a title,not the store itself, he's reviewing a product which exists on a product,I see no reason to bring up the bigger product into the discussion.
@@bartkorol611 Also,with that logic,I can criticize him for buying games on steam, because Valve had some slipups or they have an immoral practice of adding gambling with real money in their games (TF2 and CSGO) or I could criticize him for buying on GoG because CDPR had some slipups or because they have a poor policy on developer crunches.
@@mayman4255 that is a fair point, but like his meme comment for 'Epic Bad' I too took a jab at the 'I don't care' comment. Though the phone analogy is a little more complicated. You can choose a different launcher/store front to get your games which do not employ a poor ethic, you definitely have no say for a non-sweatshop phone, or just don't own a phone or any piece of electronic.

It's hard to claim your reviews are short when there is a gaming review series on Escapist that does 3 min reviews that are quite competent.
All the comparisons to subnautica were almost sounding like they were supposed to be negatives..... all positives for me

BREATHEDGE is much funnier, it’s survival for one, crafting, vehicles, multiple chapters. I think it’s a minimum 20+ hours of play. Price vs value, BREATHEDGE all day.
