Love that you do the camera shake for realism in your replays btw. You can use keyframes to make it look like the cameraman got slammed. Used to enjoy occasionally doing that at the point of bail, in... the other one.

Small tip if you're like me and are frustrated by the autosave icon showing up in replays (or if you're just going for a retro look to your video), you can film everything in game in 4:3 using the 4:3 or Fisheye lens settings and then crop the recordings in your video editing software.

As a bit of a migrant to Session recently, it's... *so* nice having a functional... **very** functional replay editor just in the game. It feels so good to start doing some of the tricks you want to do when starting this game, that when you do it perfectly, it would be a shame not to use this thing. Progress must be documented. Need to watch this before the game crashes in the background.
I finally got my head round the replay editor last night. I foundd doing the camera frames first before Fov was easier. Great video though, dude. The replay editor is a whole game itself 👍

I never realised there's an Undo button. I've had to entirely remake clips because I'd make dumb mistakes that could've been solved by an undo. Finally I don't have to be paranoid that I'm gonna accidentally reset the clip start/end points deleting multiple crucial keyframes!
Yeah mine doesn’t delete them it’s super frustrating!! I’ve tried everything to undo them and it doesn’t work.. glad you got it working for you I still have to redo clips. 😂
I had no idea about the linear keys for slow mo. I'm gonna be using it some more. The extra shake for the push too is something I could implement. Thanks JL this is an awesome tutorial. copy the steps i do in the video: make sure montage view is Off, select Tripod camera, play the clip and set the markers as it follows. once you set tall the markers, turn Montage view on and youll see the changes you made
Although I can see the camera path I can not see the video playing from the camera, nor navigate through the key frames as in 3:34 it just stays in whatever camera I'm in

If i want to make a skate part, as in to mimic an actual skate video, woukd i need to export all saved clips from my ps5 to a computer or something with some video editing software to then put clips back to back and add music?
Yeah youll have to use PlayStation game record to create a video file then Send it to PC for editing (a free video editor is DaVinci Resolve). Alternatively you can use Share Factory on PS5 to edit clips together to make a part / montage. Might be limited to what you are able to do in there and the music available tho.
You gotta be set to Montage view to see the keyframe changes, otherwise the replay picks up where your replay cam is (like orbit, gameplay, tripod.. etc)
I make all my edits on my xbox and phone. I don't save any replay in game. I save them straight to my xbox, trim them down, upload them to the xbox network, then I can download my clips from the xbox app and save them to my phone. Then I fine trim them and put all my clips together to make a video.

Great tutorial, but I’m struggling. Just not working out right. I set up the camera then put it in filter mode and the camera moves and I can’t put it back. I set key frames but it doesn’t show the point of view I set. Can’t choose the right lens because when I put in filmer mode I can’t set key frames. I need to watch this tutorial again I guess.
Every time I change my camera in the pause menu to "Fisheye Wide" I lose resolution. Yours in the video seems to remain the same when you change camera types in the pause menu. Any help here?
nah everyones resolution gets worse when they use fisheye wide or any fisheye lens. mine just might looks smoother cause of rendering, but it for sure looks like crap when im playing. it has always been like that. wish they would make it clear :(
Session doesn’t save clips as a video file so If you’re on console you need to capture the footage using the consoles game record feature. Then send that file to a Pc or phone. If you’re on a Pc you need to use a recording program like OBS
No, Switch has a record feature too. There’s a button you hold to record 30 seconds of gameplay at a time. This gives you video files on the switch then you can then transfer over to pc or phone by various methods. Just look up how to do it and find the best method for you

Linear is more for hard cuts between camera angles. Most just use Smooth cause it’s more natural but it all depends on what kind of camera stuff you’re doing
After you save, you can load replayed from the pause menu within the replay editor. Remember that every clip saves within the maps they were created in, so you need to be in the same map as the clip to see it

Not really unless you load a clip, then load another clip at the end of it.. but then you’re limited to only having clips from 1 map aand you can’t add music. What you have to do is use the consoles record feature to capture the clip on screen, then go to where the console saves the videos and send that file to a USB and bring that usb to a computer.
While in replay editor, pause then click Load replay. Remember that you have to be in the same map as the clip was created in for it to load. That’s how you watch them and edit them later

Hey brother, question for you. Have you heard anyone report any bugs with the replay editor? For some reason I can’t remove key frames. The only thing I can do is “undo” as you know that’s different. So I can’t go back and edit keyframes because if I click undo it just erases my last keyframe I entered. Unless I’m doing it wrong? Haha any help is greatly appreciated! 👊🏻
to remove keyframes, you hold Right Bumper (R1) use Left / right on the Dpad to jump from keyframe to keyframe, to remove a selected keyframe push Up on the Dpad
@@JLNightmare See, that's not what I was doing. I would line the marker up with the keyframe and though you select R1 and down on the keypad. No kidding it wasn't removing I didn't realize you can select left and right. Once again, JLNightmare saving the day! Thanks a ton, my guy!

The issue I’m having is it won’t play according to the keyframes. I’m in montage view, I have the keyframes set correctly, I have my start and end point, everything is correct but when I press play or try to scrub through, the camera just stays where I leave it. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
You’re sure you pressed montage view and it’s enabled? You can always back out of the replay editor then go back in and turn on montage view to kinda reset it without losing keyframe progress
@nathanorput8737 shouldn’t need to redo, I mean just close replay then open again. As long as you press LB to turn on Montage view, it should show what your keyframes did when you play
I know on PlayStation you can use ShareFactory to do this.. not sure if Xbox has an app like that. But you can’t do it within game. The only other way is to send your recorded clips to your phone or a usb then put it on a Pc to edit
What console are you on? Also remember that you have to use the console record feature to create a video file so that you have something to send. You can Google the different ways to send a video clip from console to phone

Pause the game While you have the replay editor open. You will see Load replay. Keep in mind that every replay saves within the map they were created in, so you need to be in the same map as the clip you want to see
No, you need to open the replay editor and once the replay editor is open, press start. That’s where you’ll see the load and Save options. You also don’t need to be standing next to the exact spot you did the trick, just in the same Map.
I still can't wrap my head around the difference between smooth, linear, and constant. I sort of get constant, but what is linear? I don't get it...that and I'm trying to understand how to go from like camera to camera. Like say you had 2 tripods and you want to cut from 1 to the other. Linear is a sharp transition to the next camera angle. So imagine a corner of a square, linear keyframe is the corner. Now if you smooth the corners of the square to be round, that’s a Smooth Keyframe ( it’s a smooth transition from one keyframe to the next) Constant stays at the same camera angle till the next keyframe then changes to that camera angle. Hopefully my analogies helped.
@@JLNightmare Ohhh okay..so what you're saying is, imagine the square or 90 degree right angle is the camera's path. The camera will take the turn hard. Smooth out the angle, and that's smooth. I think that makes a lot of sense! Thank you!! So, by using 2 constant key's, would that accomplish "different camera angles"? Like, that would allow me to make a "cut" to a different "camera"?
@@iHoPStA you can do it that way if you want for constant keyframes. but my suggestion is on the last fram that you want for Camera angle 1, set Constant, then move over from that keyframe about 1 frame (as little as you can) then set a Linear keyframe at a new camera position. that will give a nice hard cut to the next angle. every keyframe after that Linear one can be Smooth again

Just a little thing you forgot in the slomo explanation If you have your keyframes set to smooth, you have to change the last one to constant, so that the footage doesnt speed up after the slomotion part. Same applies to the section before the slomotion part, so where the Clip starts I usually add a constant Playrate marker = 1
There’s no need to add extra keyframes or set the last one to Constant. Just the 3 smooth ones I set in the video works perfectly fine. It all depends on what you’re trying to achieve with your clip
Just made a clip, saved it, and when I watch it none of my key frames do anything, I can see the little green icon but the slow mo doesn’t happen or anything
I can’t give any additional advice without knowing or seeing what you’re doing in the replay editor. Are you making sure to copy exactly what I do in the video with the exact same keyframe types?

That’s not a Replay editor tutorial haha that means “replay the tutorial” for the game
I try to set key frames but it never works they don't appear when I play back the video it just plays the whole vid without camera angles
Make sure to press Montage View (left bumper) and have it ON

Don’t use filmer mode, it’s not that great and you want Montage view to see what your keyframes do.

You just scoop the popping foot then let go of inputs. Don’t flick the other foot like you would to pop, quick shove is all 1 stick: scoop and let go

Also anyone know what R1 does while you are grinding? R1 doesn’t really do much but I noticed it slips you out of your grinds if you press it
Bumps you out of the grind / slide. It’s mostly for Liptricks but can be used on ledges / rails

While in replay editor, pause then click Load replay. Remember that you have to be in the same map as the clip was created in for it to load. That’s how you watch them and edit them later
@@JLNightmare alright, thanks, i only knew about the fact i had to be in the same area as the clip, didn't actually try loading them for some reason though, figured it out right after i posted, lol...
All of your keyframe icons are green but when i do it its white and it cuts in to the position rather moving. Is there an explanation for this?

Did you turn on Montage view? That’s how you see your keyframe changes
Hey brother, question for you. Have you heard anyone report any bugs with the replay editor? For some reason I can’t remove key frames. The only thing I can do is “undo” as you know that’s different. So I can’t go back and edit keyframes because if I click undo it just erases my last keyframe I entered. Unless I’m doing it wrong? Haha any help is greatly appreciated! 👊🏻
to remove keyframes, you hold Right Bumper (R1) use Left / right on the Dpad to jump from keyframe to keyframe, to remove a selected keyframe push Up on the Dpad
@@JLNightmare See, that's not what I was doing. I would line the marker up with the keyframe and though you select R1 and down on the keypad. No kidding it wasn't removing I didn't realize you can select left and right. Once again, JLNightmare saving the day! Thanks a ton, my guy!

yes, if you save a raw replay, you can open it later and edit whenever you want

The issue I’m having is it won’t play according to the keyframes. I’m in montage view, I have the keyframes set correctly, I have my start and end point, everything is correct but when I press play or try to scrub through, the camera just stays where I leave it. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
You’re sure you pressed montage view and it’s enabled? You can always back out of the replay editor then go back in and turn on montage view to kinda reset it without losing keyframe progress

@nathanorput8737 shouldn’t need to redo, I mean just close replay then open again. As long as you press LB to turn on Montage view, it should show what your keyframes did when you play

Can you add clips together on console to make a skate video???
I know on PlayStation you can use ShareFactory to do this.. not sure if Xbox has an app like that. But you can’t do it within game. The only other way is to send your recorded clips to your phone or a usb then put it on a Pc to edit

What console are you on?
Also remember that you have to use the console record feature to create a video file so that you have something to send.

For the boardslide part you have to boardslide the TOP middle part of the ledge ;)
How in the world do you find your saved replays on the new update I don’t see load replays?
Pause the game While you have the replay editor open. You will see Load replay. Keep in mind that every replay saves within the map they were created in, so you need to be in the same map as the clip you want to see

No, you need to open the replay editor and once the replay editor is open, press start. That’s where you’ll see the load and Save options.
You also don’t need to be standing next to the exact spot you did the trick, just in the same Map.
I still can't wrap my head around the difference between smooth, linear, and constant. I sort of get constant, but what is linear? I don't get it...that and I'm trying to understand how to go from like camera to camera. Like say you had 2 tripods and you want to cut from 1 to the other. Thank you for all your hard work and help throughout the years
Linear is a sharp transition to the next camera angle. So imagine a corner of a square, linear keyframe is the corner.
Now if you smooth the corners of the square to be round, that’s a Smooth Keyframe ( it’s a smooth transition from one keyframe to the next)
Constant stays at the same camera angle till the next keyframe then changes to that camera angle.
Hopefully my analogies helped.
@@JLNightmare Ohhh okay..so what you're saying is, imagine the square or 90 degree right angle is the camera's path. The camera will take the turn hard. Smooth out the angle, and that's smooth. I think that makes a lot of sense! Thank you!! So, by using 2 constant key's, would that accomplish "different camera angles"? Like, that would allow me to make a "cut" to a different "camera"?
@@iHoPStA you can do it that way if you want for constant keyframes. but my suggestion is on the last fram that you want for Camera angle 1, set Constant, then move over from that keyframe about 1 frame (as little as you can) then set a Linear keyframe at a new camera position. that will give a nice hard cut to the next angle. every keyframe after that Linear one can be Smooth again

Just a little thing you forgot in the slomo explanation
If you have your keyframes set to smooth, you have to change the last one to constant, so that the footage doesnt speed up after the slomotion part. Same applies to the section before the slomotion part, so where the Clip starts I usually add a constant Playrate marker = 1
There’s no need to add extra keyframes or set the last one to Constant. Just the 3 smooth ones I set in the video works perfectly fine. It all depends on what you’re trying to achieve with your clip
My fault
What I wrote was the case before 1.0
Just made a clip, saved it, and when I watch it none of my key frames do anything, I can see the little green icon but the slow mo doesn’t happen or anything
Make sure you turn on Montage View to see the keyframe changes

I can’t give any additional advice without knowing or seeing what you’re doing in the replay editor. Are you making sure to copy exactly what I do in the video with the exact same keyframe types?
