Many times, acetone doesn't work as well as it used to because most of it is water based. That's why I usually stick to cheap, appliance paint now.
I have a few Tekton tools including the 3/8" and 1/4" combo socket set. As a former part-time employee of Sears that worked in their tool department during the early 70's and early 80's I can say that Tekton tools are equal or better than USA made Craftsman tools of that era. I would not have even known about Tekton if you hadn't done that piece on he company a while back... I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for really good quality tools at a reasonable price point.
So what? My milwaukee wrenches are made in China and are far better than my tekton wrenches. Look how unreliable american-designed cars are compared to a Toyota. US-made products can be just as crappy as stuff made anywhere else in the world.
Yes Tekton is one of the better tool companies today if you consider value, only being on average, slightly less quality than Snap On. There are other tools that come highly recommended, however, with Tekton it’s the entire tool line. I have a wide mix of brands but if I only had access to one brand of tools it would be Tekton. It’s also the brand I would recommend for younger folks just starting out because of value.
Love their tools but not completely happy with how chunky their wrenches are. Plus they use the same blank every other wrench making some sizes the same length as the next size up making some really thick on the box end making them not fit tight spots. Plus they put a heavy chamfered edge on the box end leaving very little tooth bitting the bolt head. Strong wrenches but have much room for improvement.

I work on all my own vehicles, lawn mower, appliances etc. I'm no pro but I wanted to upgrade my tools this year and I bought the 1/4" and 3/8" master set. For less than $200 I have as many sockets as I'll probably ever need.
Hey Bear, I would put the 24" 1/2" ratchet in that list. At $35 it is a great tool. I bought mine to do suspension work on my frame off Land Rover Ninety restoration. I thought this would be relegated to 24mm-32mm socket work but I find myself grabbing it to break all sorts of things loose. It also made me grab some 1/2" sockets down to 10mm. I know some people will say "that is why I have a breaker bar and a regular length 1/2" ratchet". Nope, this is a game changer! My idea for some lists, "Top 10 tools you might not already have, but should". Put this on that list. Most people here probably have a basic 3/8" and 1/4" socket set, standard sizes of combo wrenches, etc. Would be fun to learn about the tool you never thought you needed and some examples of where it will make your life easy.
Tekton makes nice tools at a great price. I have some tekton stuff and like the tools. I just ordered 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch socket sets. I like the fact that they don't skip sizes. Enjoy your videos, very informative.
One of the great things about living in Grand Rapids is that if I break say my 3/8 rachet and do the little picture form I usually have a new tool the next day. I can't wait to get the impact set now that I am working in a shop.
im gonna haveta agree with another person on here whod said "tektons gonna end up being the new craftsman" ...especially since stanley has all but destroyed the good craftsman name... & lets face it, us fellas over 50 are usually the "go into store & lay hands on it" types & we lament that we can no longer go into our local sears store & roam the craftsman isles, but the generation(s) behind us are well conditioned to purchasing so much, if not dang near everything, online & having to go thru the internet will not deter them... so is tekton the new craftsman? ...maybe so? i still love my sk tools, but im willing to give em a shot, especially if they start bringing more & more of their manufacturing to the usa... thanx bear, always enjoy ur videos. god bless bro
I’m a mobile technician all over the state of Florida. I’ve got that 3/8 kit and looove it. Sense then I’ve got the 1/4 kit, Allen key sets, and a few other items. Can’t recommend them enough.
Been using a set of tekton sockets for the last 5 years. Lost a couple but it's held up to the abuse I've put it through. Love the point about the 1/2 drive. I have a half inch ratchet and a single 15/16 socket for hard to reach flange bolts.
I have that 3/8 socket set! It's worth every penny! Everything individually is over $200. As for the breaker bar I used a 4ft pipe on it without issue.
I have been a tech for 15 years.. and I am blown away by tekton. I am replacing alot lost tools with them. The long pattern ratchet wrenches are my next purchase from them
Man I love what tekton is doing. Too bad I'm too broke to buy any tools right now. I would go with 1/2 chrome because it seems to be the smartest choice for someone with no power tools. I would be too scared to break a 3/8 ratchet or breaker bar and I've seen 1/2 inch ratchets taking more than 400 lb ft, so Tekton's must be even stronger. Love your channel Bear, keep up the amazing work!!!
On another channel. Client Graphics I believe. The 3/8" drive 8" ratchet sheared the anvil off at 600 ft-lbs. That was after bending the handled. Ratchet mechanism didn't fail.
My whole life has been a lie... I'm a resident of Grand Rapids, and have been for twenty years. Everyone told me growing up to never buy tools from a grocery store. Long behold Tekton is sold in every meijer and ive always walked passed thier items. Im glad I stumbled upon your fb page and videos. Thank you.
I remember when I first started as a mechanic tekton tools were ok not the greatest but they have definitely gotten better in the last couple years really wish all these tool truck alternatives were were as good as they are now back then. Could have saved myself a lot of money
I had to replace my Craftsman 25-150 ft/lb torque wrench about 10 months ago now. Somehow the twist handle disconnected from the internal spring and would no longer adjust. Bought a Tekton from Amazon, it's the 25-250ft/lb, not bad for what it is. Use it daily at work. The lock screw to hold the bottom to secure it in place for the torque setting, likes to loosen up while using it. Have to use a small screw driver to lock it down good. All in all, I'm impressed with it.
Jeff- I just used up every gift card I got for X-Mas on Tekton tools! I purchased their 1/4 ratchet last summer and I was impressed, so I figured the next time I go tool shopping I'd go with Tekton. I do wish they would expand their (small$) tool storage stuff. Thanks for the tip!
When I first acquired hand tools as a grownup about 10 years ago, I randomly picked up Tekton socket sets at Meijer (think of a Walmart Supercenter, but only regional to the Great Lakes area) Which seems to be the only place they are sold at retail. Years later, I started doing auto work and needed more stuff. Initially, I tried to find more Craftsman items, since it was the only widely known "reputable" brand I knew but it just wasn't the same. Shopping regularly at Meijer I kept seeing them and liked the look and feel and ended up getting more. Assuming they were cheap over-seas stuff (which apparently they were at the time I first acquired them) I was hesitant, and then saw they were made by a local company and was all in. Glad others are also taking notice too.
I have their cold chisel and I love it. Used it for breaking a small 1/4 scrap plate for some DIY hi-ten hacksaw frame that I'll be making out of steel. So yeah! Their cold chisel are awesome. I wish that Tekton could make American files, but I'll buy one from Brazil or Germany for now.
Their math isn't messed up, the last 2% of their tools come from lots of different countries. I have some of their wire brushes which come from Brazil and a set of needle files from them that were made in Japan. If you're ever wondering just check the package or listing. Great transparent company.
I just bought their 1/2" 360* swivel head ratchet because I was only able to get 1/4" and 3/8" from Gearwrench. It is pretty nice. Tekton has a great opportunity to expand their selection and maybe dabble in some specialty stuff and really take off. From my 1 ratchet I can say that it feels like it's worth more than you pay.
I have all tekton new impact stuff they offer 8-38mm shallow and deep ,5/16-1-1/2 shallow and deep, swivel extension, reducers/adapters. As well as all the 1/2 chrome sockets 12pt and 6pt, deep and shallow. List goes on and on, Tekton offers nice tools and warranty at a great price.
I've already got an assortment of Tekton tools, and appreciate the shout out to a local (to me) company. I'm lucky, in that I can actually put hands on these tools. Meijer, another Grand Rapids-based company, carries Tekton in their stores.
I find their impact sockets to be of good quality, and reasonably priced. I started with the 1/2" deep metric set and liked them so much got the 3/8" impact sets deep and shallow. Then bought a nice chrome 1/4" set. All these come in nice blow molded cases and fit very well in my Raptor for Baja trips.
What I like about tekton is their warranty process, the quality they are coming out with and one thing I really find nice is their website and the layout of it. It’s very informative. Just my opinion.
I just received my first set today. 3/8 impact shallow metric/standard with the tray. Very impressed with the quality. The engraved numbers lined up with the detent hole so it’s all uniform and very pleasing to my ocd. Definitely going to be getting more tekton sets
I bought an extra set of pliers for the house. Decided to try something different from the channelocks. Went with the USA tektons. The channelocks might be slightly more solid, but I'm very happy with the tektons. I saw another commenter saying that tekton is like the new craftsman. I would agree with that once they get their American manufacturing up more. If they can get their wrenches in the US, I would totally agree. I'm so disappointed in craftsman these days. I have some of their wrenches from when they first started importing them and even those are light-years ahead of what they put out now. Still love my old US craftsman stuff though.
I love Tekton too. Since the 3/8 ratchet comes in the set I wouldn't buy a second one. I personally bought the long handle swivel head ratchet. Sometimes you just need that extra leverage.
Great video... thanks for the tips and information about what / which is good when getting started... I'm just starting my business and the more information the better... Thanks again and have a great day...
The sockets are great and the 90 tooth ratchets are very good and very strong. Many of their other items are great too, like their US made screwdrivers.
I’m also going all in with TekTon, but I’m a weekend hobby mechanic. I get what you mean by “Almost all” because TekTon’s largest impact sockets are 38MM / 1-1/2” As a example of where this is a issue, with one of my hobbies being boat mechanical work, I need 1-7/16” and 2-3/4” sockets for removing nuts on Mercury Marine Bravo propellers. Still, for the majority of my sockets, socket extensions, adapters, wrenches, and torque wrenches, I’m using TekTon and found the TexTon quality is all I need. TekTon’s prices are above auto chain store brands, private label brands, and above big box DIY quality, but the price point is well below Snap-On or Mac. TekTon’s largest issue, in my opinion, is lack of brand name recognition. I know about them but many professional mechanics and electricians I ask never heard of them. Neither do most hobby mechanics. They need more RUclipsr reviews, maybe sponsor a Nascar vehicle on a handful of races or, shoot, market themselves more. TekTon is the correct balance of quality and price for me.
The first tekton product I bought was the 1/4"dr sae and metric set. I absolutely love it and recommend it to anyone, but I'm just not sure how to feel about the ratchet. I'm not sure why, It could just be the fact that I don't like quick release ratchets.
I learned a lot about Tekton in this video, which gave me a new confidence in the tools I already purchased from them, and greater confidence in purchasing more tools from them.

I have quite a few tekton stuff and will be adding more although after some research I decided to skip Tekton torque wrenches and get me some Torque wrenches from Teng Tools. Just a tad more expensive but worth it.
Honestly for the home gamer these are the absolute best tools to go with. I can't recommend them for a guy who'd use them everyday because I currently don't but I'd venture to say most guys in this case would be happy with them. The only negative I see with Tekton is the fact that they don't have a lot of specialty tools, or even pseudo specialty tools like hose grip pliers or snap ring pliers. They used too apparently but they dropped them out of their lineup. I am sure they only want to have tools that sell the most, but by not having some of these offerings they are forcing people to buy other brands. Also, I think with say a product like their groove joint pliers are an old design and lots of people like myself prefer a more slim and easier to use design like similar offerings from Knipex. So if your'e listening Tekton, please modernize your lineup a bit and I think you could easily dominate the market.
I'm thinking about buying a Tekton screwdriver set, but noticed the black oxide set is about $20 cheaper. Other than appearance vs. the chrome, is there any difference? Is the black oxide any more prone to rusting in high humidity applications over the chrome?
They forgot to mention the 2% made in Canada. Like the new tool box line which will compete with HF, Husky, and Snap On. Their pricing is mid range but quality is at or above Snap On, or so it’s said.
Certainly if I used ratchets and sockets more frequently, I wouldn't even think twice. I'd just get the sets you mentioned. Open end and ratchet wrenches would be the same. As far as pliers, I might be more likely to go for Doyle from Harbor Freight or even Klein since I really wouldn't need that full set and could spend a bit more on the ones I did need. You mentioned multi-bit. You really ought to check out Picquic at some point. It's a Canadian company that makes multi-bit drivers that aren't fumbly and annoying to use.
Within the last year I have added some Tekton tools including 3/8 impact sockets, metric and SAE. Unfortunately bought them far enough back that I missed the stamped version. Oh well. Very nice and seem robust so far. I also have the XL 3/8 ratchet and the 14" 1/2 flex head ratchet. And a few chrome sockets to fill in missing sizes. Like there pliers too. I will be buying more form them. Impressed so far. I wonder how long it will be before they have soft grip ratchet?
I'm staring to switch to tekton tools so far so good all tools break snap on what ever . they hold up. Warranty is key next to quality. Been wrenching professional for thirty years and going
i have some of these, i have the crome 1/2 set i use at work with power tools and with out. i have no problem putting a 4ft pipe on the end of the breaker bar. i work on boiler and chillers so the bolts tend to steam gual on and i have broken studs off. i am looking at the 3/8 kit vs the 3/8 and 1/4 kit for my house.
Tekton Is the Way to go for quality told add a outstanding price. As far as the percentages go for made in Taiwan, U.S.A, china I’m pretty sure the other 2% is from Canada where their toolboxes & tool carts are made.
I wish they would make comfort grip ratchets like snap-on, duralast, pittsburgh, and icon. I have the 3/8 and 1/4 set from Meijer's of which I use for my job at Firestone. Now the quick release 3/8 ratchet gear would lock up on oil drain plugs. Talked to the online rep sent me a rebuilt kit even though I request a new ratchet. However the rebuilt kit failed and I sent my ratchet to them to check it out themselves. Sent me a new one no hassle. As for their wrenches. Look and feel great. But they're too short and the 12 point easily rounds off fasteners. Now I am looking else where for wrenches.
@behexen250 I'm just a level entry Maintenance Tech. I get paid hourly while going to school with raising a son. I am no where near the flat-rate levels just yet. So when it comes to the high end stuff I cannot afford right now, but love to have down the road. Plus I am no where near to do alignments just yet. So I just gotta make due with I can afford and research out there to make it through.
@behexen250 You're fine. Most of the tools I resarch and look out for is just above consumer/diy grade quality. All the while within budget. And help those coming into the industry from what I own, used, and accumulated. Snap-on is just too costly even on a student discount. Both the SP tool rep and the tool trucker dealer are aware that 1) That us students/entry level techs cannot afford the tools 2) Know the stuff is way over priced. 3)They're not offended if I go do my business somewhere else.
To me it seems like Tekton is going to be the New craftsman. Price and quality will ALWAYS be the most important thing to me !!!!

No skips and ability to buy individuals is key.
Very true 3/8 is my most used ratchet anything above you start getting into power tools.
Thank you.
Just got in a set of Tekton flex head ratchets and boy do they feel nice. Lots of greasy smudges, but they wiped off clean and gleaming!
I agree love that tekton listens to us on problems we have found
I remember when I first started as a mechanic tekton tools were ok not the greatest but they have definitely gotten better in the last couple years really wish all these tool truck alternatives were were as good as they are now back then. Could have saved myself a lot of money
Number 1 3/8 long handled rachet, computer tool kit, 1/4 inch torque wrench, 6 in 1 drivers, more tekton to follow. Shine On Bear.
Love my Tekton Impact sets
I just bought their 1/2" 360* swivel head ratchet because I was only able to get 1/4" and 3/8" from Gearwrench. It is pretty nice. Tekton has a great opportunity to expand their selection and maybe dabble in some specialty stuff and really take off. From my 1 ratchet I can say that it feels like it's worth more than you pay.
That Tekton 3/8" socket set is the most complete set that I have seen by a quality tool company.
Any skips?
@@sirsweetness8332 no skips
I've already got an assortment of Tekton tools, and appreciate the shout out to a local (to me) company. I'm lucky, in that I can actually put hands on these tools. Meijer, another Grand Rapids-based company, carries Tekton in their stores.
Sadly not anymore, Stanley showed back up instead.
I'm happy to see the rachet at #1 on the list! My absolute favorite rachet even over my Mac ones.
I have the 3/8 and 1/4 inch sets. Also the pry bars and angled handled ratchet.
What I like about tekton is their warranty process, the quality they are coming out with and one thing I really find nice is their website and the layout of it. It’s very informative. Just my opinion.
I just took delivery of the 74 piece 3/8 set today. Awesome. Can’t wait to use them.
I have been using Tekton for a while now and love the quality - better or equal to SnapOn, Mac, etc.
Love Tekton, they've become what Craftsman used to be
I love Tekton too. Since the 3/8 ratchet comes in the set I wouldn't buy a second one. I personally bought the long handle swivel head ratchet. Sometimes you just need that extra leverage.
I bought that 3/8" kit a few months ago and it is a fantastic kit for the money.
I just bought one for a friend and can't wait to see it.
Just got me a 3/8ths chrome socket set 1/2inch impact sockets 1/2inch ratchet and pry bar. Best 400 bucks ive spent on tools in a long time
Great video... thanks for the tips and information about what / which is good when getting started... I'm just starting my business and the more information the better...
Thanks again and have a great day...
It’s really good to hear the Bear on the RUclips👍
As a heavy diesel mechanic almost all my sockets and ratchets are tekton
The sockets are great and the 90 tooth ratchets are very good and very strong. Many of their other items are great too, like their US made screwdrivers.
I’m also going all in with TekTon, but I’m a weekend hobby mechanic.
I get what you mean by “Almost all” because TekTon’s largest impact sockets are 38MM / 1-1/2”
As a example of where this is a issue, with one of my hobbies being boat mechanical work, I need 1-7/16” and 2-3/4” sockets for removing nuts on Mercury Marine Bravo propellers.
The long 3/8 flex head ratchet is amazing at $30
The first tekton product I bought was the 1/4"dr sae and metric set. I absolutely love it and recommend it to anyone, but I'm just not sure how to feel about the ratchet. I'm not sure why, It could just be the fact that I don't like quick release ratchets.
Tekton and Capri are my favorites. I do like the HF Pittsburgh Pro composites for their super light back drag
I learned a lot about Tekton in this video, which gave me a new confidence in the tools I already purchased from them, and greater confidence in purchasing more tools from them.
Check out their new comfort grip ratchets... very nice.
Only Tekton I own are the torque wrenchs, fantastic quality. Highly recommended. If only I'd known about them before I bought my other tools.
I'm a fan of the quick release 👍🏽
NICE! Yes Sir, Those ARE Some GRRRRRTRRREAT! 😏😊😋 Prices on some NICE Tools!

I gotta get to work, so...
GOD BLESS, And say it with me (I always do 😝)
SHINE ON!
I would love to see a version of the stubby driver that takes standard small 1/4” bits with magnetic retention.
Thank god they started stamping I loved my sae and metric 1/2 sets but it did become a pain after awhile I thought id never considered buying from them again good to know might have to grab a new set
My son turns 18 next month and I've decided I'm going to be getting him a few sets of Tekton for his birthday. I'm actually a little jealous hahaha
I hear nothing but positive feedback about this tool company
I love my tekton 1/4 and 3/8 sets
They make damn good tools at a damn good price. Looking forward to buying more.
I just got a set of Starret center punches so far so good. A little pricey but I really like them !!!
I’ll be trying tekton when I expand my 6pt chrome sockets.
I have the 1/4 inch socket set I love that thing
I have quite a few tekton stuff and will be adding more although after some research I decided to skip Tekton torque wrenches and get me some Torque wrenches from Teng Tools. Just a tad more expensive but worth it.
All of my tekton pliers are made in the usa @TheDenOfTools
I really appreciated the correction you added to the End Cut pilers. My brain went haywire when called Flush-cut.
I'm thinking about buying a Tekton screwdriver set, but noticed the black oxide set is about $20 cheaper. Other than appearance vs. the chrome, is there any difference? Is the black oxide any more prone to rusting in high humidity applications over the chrome?
I have the black oxide set and I like them but they are not the stoutest screwdrivers out there. They are light to medium duty.
They forgot to mention the 2% made in Canada. Like the new tool box line which will compete with HF, Husky, and Snap On. Their pricing is mid range but quality is at or above Snap On, or so it’s said.
Husky and tekton are about the only things in my tool box.
Glad they hired Fred to stamp the sockets, Ethel was glad he got his new job.
I was thinking about Tekton and then Tool Bear! Thumbs up and subscribed!
Very interesting take on going impact for the 1/2 inch set / excellent video! Thanks!
I love the quick release!
I have their 3/8 and 1/2 torque wrenches and they are a solid value too.
Before I bought into the TEKTON tool line I bought a bunch of Doyle Pliers. Worth the upgrade to get the TEKTON pliers?
I don't need crows foot wrenches but Im putting those holders on the list, that will save a ton of room.
I have always had good experience with products made in Taiwan for decades. From tools, radio control nitro engines and quality knives for examples.
Double sided racheting wrenches! Stubby screwdrivers! Buy! Buy! Buy! High Medium Quality for Stanley Walmart Prices.
I would also add the locking pliers in addition to the regular pliers. Tekton locking pliers are the best I’ve ever owned
I'm staring to switch to tekton tools so far so good all tools break snap on what ever .
they hold up. Warranty is key next to quality. Been wrenching professional for thirty years and going
The 3/8 chrome set is on the top of my want list for a while now.
Very informative, waiting for some USA flare nut crowfoot, fingers or paws crossed 🤞
i would love some flare nut crowfoot
It's cool that a good tool manufacturer's headquarters are located about 4 miles from me.
i have some of these, i have the crome 1/2 set i use at work with power tools and with out. i have no problem putting a 4ft pipe on the end of the breaker bar. i work on boiler and chillers so the bolts tend to steam gual on and i have broken studs off.
i am looking at the 3/8 kit vs the 3/8 and 1/4 kit for my house.
Got a 3/8 an 1/4 drive star socket set on Amazon. I really like them. Will be looking at Tekton in the future.
Tekton Is the Way to go for quality told add a outstanding price. As far as the percentages go for made in Taiwan, U.S.A, china I’m pretty sure the other 2% is from Canada where their toolboxes & tool carts are made.
I use my snapon 12" long flex head 99% of the time.
Almost never use any other ratchet
