Great to see an old, unused line being resuscitated like this. Truly enjoyable & thanks for following it's progress for all to see.
I spent my 1st 40 years in Southern New Jersey. A line that originally ran from Camden, NJ to Fort Dix was almost dead in the late 80s to early 90s. The train designation is WPCA-20 (Conrail Shared Assets operation. The revenues that come from this old Pennsy, Penn Central & Conrail line is worked by NS & CSX now, work & profits split by the two railroads)
I saw 2 locos pulling a single Santa Fe plug door boxcar carrying wine to Gallo Wines in Hainesport Industrial Park in Hainesport, NJ. And maybe a stake body flat car carrying telephone poles once in a while...
Since then ? A huge paper distributer, a recycling company, a metal fabrication company & several other companies sprung up requiring rail service & rail sidings. The line no longer extends past Hainesport. A small yard in Mt. Holly, NJ has been torn up. Even though the line is much shorter now, the businesses that have sprung up now regularly see between 20-30 cars each trip, at three times a week.
Ditto for where I now live, in Sussex County, Delaware. The line that runs from the Indian River Secondary in Ellendale, DE to Milton, DE was dead. No trains, for a cannery in Milton closed shop. There were many boxcars needed for that operation- cannery closed, line dead- no other rail customers on that line (basically a roughly 6 mile long siding/branch to the customer. Then Baker Petroleum opened a rail siding, after they built propane racks & so forth to accept propane tankers for their expanding business in our area. Then just about a year ago, a passing siding for roughly 10 cars was installed. Now Wyoming Millwork built a siding for their location, just adjacent to Baker Petroleum. They now accept center beam cars usually loaded with plywood packs from Canada. They may take boxcars eventually, for wood that needs protection from the elements; we'll see.
The previous rail company, Delaware Coast Line had a badass Alco T-6 that worked that line, but sadly DCL folded. Now Delmarva Central RR works this line, utilizing MP-15s. They upgraded the rails too for this operation in some sections. It looked as though the existing rails were of the lightest, smallest gauge required. Upgrades were inevitable, given large propane tankers & centerbeams loaded with wood were now going to be plying those tracks.
Change is always inevitable with railroads- but it's usually negative stuff. Great to see changes on the positive side. If I ever acquire a decent camera with which to post some of these things, I'm sure to share it here like you chose to.
Hey, your work inspires others from time to time, don'tcha know ?.....
    👊🤓
    Regards from Delaware, man !!
Those moisture valves need addressing. Tick, tick, tick....Sounds like Penn Central engines back when; lack of servicing for a simple fix...
