Good hack! It wouldn't bend like comic book boards sometimes do. Don't throw the small piece leftover from cutting the foam board. You can use it to wrap binding on. 🙂
I do the same only using my ruler. It’s easy to slide out and I don’t have that extra bulk. No to mention the added expense. I have too much fabric to stand on end. My shelves are deep enough to make two rows so I just stack mine. Folding fabric like this with a consistent size is so helpful to keep organized. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks. I folded the way you did around a ruler, pulled the ruler and then made a stack and put into my basket on the edge. This way I can see all the colors like you. I need to put my fabrics out of sight for some reason. I get weird seeing all my unused fabric all the time, lol. I think I love it too much.
@@virginiawakefield964 Me neither. A lot of RUclipsrs don't check to make sure the sound is up before they download a video though & it makes it difficult. I have my sound on my PC turned up to 100% to hear this. Great video I might add, but it was hard to hear.
You can buy comic boards on Amazon 100 for less than $9 and don’t have to cut anything to use them. I’ve gotten 200 for about $12 they work awesome and I’ve gotten over 8 yards of fabric on one. Easier and not much more for a whole lot less work!
I didn’t find them for $9, I bought some today from Amazon 100 for $19.??. I will get them next week. Right now I have my material in tubs. Can’t wait to get organized. 😃😃😃
II've been using foam board for my fabric, but I cut it to 12" tall which lets me simply fold my 44-45 quilting fabrics from the store in half lengthwise then wrap it. That leaves me with a little bit of the foam board to rest on my shelves rather than the fabric and I don't have to make that extra fold to get it on the board.
I've been looking and looking for ideas and this is perfect! However, I do have a question about size for the bigger pieces. What if you have 2+ yards of fabric? Would you use the same size or maybe go bigger? What have you done?
This idea would work great for organizing various interfacings as well. The identifying wrap can be kept with the mini bolt with a bit of blue painter's tape. 🍄🍄 Take care and be safe 😷
I take the sub cut board and divide into 4 pieces and wrap my fat quarters around the smaller cut pieces. Also I have had my fabric stored like this for at least 7 years- I used priority mail boxes size large which are free at the post office, scored for folding- used a ruler and utility knife to cut. Get 12 boards fold fabric in half no need to make that extra fold. They are now the perfect height and width to store on my painted file cabinets.
Personally, I would cut the 6” strips in half then just fold the yardage in half before wrapping. I use comic book boards for this. Slightly more expensive overall (1.50-1.69 per 10 boards) but I don’t have to cut them and they are not as bulky. This would be good if your shelves are less than 11” high.
If you Live in a wet and humid climate DON'T USE FOAMBOARDS ask me how i know lol... The foamboards sweat against your fabric and give them mouldy spots etc ... i have gone back to comic book boards for small 1 metre.. larger fabric 2 metres and over I have gone for cardboard or the fabric bolts from fabric shops or ebay
This is expensive and time consuming to do. Comic book boards online come in 100/pack for about $36. That's 36 cents a piece. Plus the comic book boards are archival, which protects the fabric.

Lucy, Nice way of keeping my faric organize. Love Doller Tree! Ann
Greatest idea I’ve seen so far
It’s a great idea . I did the same thing and ordered comic boards off of amazon and used them.
great idea!
What a great idea. I am going to try this for my stash of yards and half yards. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Enjoy!

What a smart idea! You are a very clever woman. Will definitely be doing this. So much nicer to see what you have. Thanks 😊
Great idea! The small leftover pieces could be used to wrap bias binding tape. Also, I had to max my volume to hear you. Thanks for posting.
Thank you! I'm going to work on better audio settings for future videos.
Thank you! Just got a microphone! I think that will help!
Thank you for the tip. I will have to try this. I guess I'm off to Dollar Tree tomorrow.
Hey Lucy bird with that last small scrap of foam board don't throw it out, use it to wrap binding, lace etc.❤
I tried this hack. Awesome. Thank you. I really appreciate and needed this.
I am soooooo going to use this. Mini bolts of fabric everywhere!
Great idea!! Your sewing room will look like a store!
Great idea!
I use dh’s box cutter to cut foam boards to save rotary cutter blades, on an old cutting mat😁
Great idea!
This is a great hack! Thanks for sharing!!
Comic boards work great too!! Perfect size and come in a large pack. I got them from Amazon.
Great Idea! And so easy too!
Love this idea! I happen to have a foam board from the dollar store and will have to try this! Thank you 😊
Let me know how it turns out!
This is great - I use magazine boards for mine and only have to fold the fabric in 1/2, rather than fold down that extra bit - works out perfect!
Great tip!
Great idea!
I use comic book boards, because in the long run they are less costly.
Great idea. I think if using newly bought fabrics I would write the length and put it on with the same pin for easy reference.
Oh what a terrific idea!
And maybe write on the card where you bought it. 😀
This is an awesome idea! Thank you for the inspiration!
Glad you liked it!
Use your trash pieces for holding binding or leftover ribbons or trim.
Great idea, I have sooo much yardage this will be helpful.
Glad it was helpful! It's a fun way to see what you have.
LOVE IT!!!! great idea - and great video!
Glad you liked it!!

Comic Book boards also reusable. Cheap and don’t take up so much room

What a great idea! Thank you!
Great idea🥰
😊 Thank you so much 😊
I use Comic Boards those keep me really organize
Crazy . I just thought about using one of these a couple of days ago.
You could use the last little piece for left over strips maybe? Love the video. Great idea for getting organized 😁
It would be great for my ribbon stash
Or binding
Great idea! Binding too!
Great idea for storage! Thanks
OMG, love it! I am totally trying this. Thank you!
Have fun! Let me know how it turns out!
@@thelucybirdconnection - This works like a charm! What a fantastic idea! Thank you so much!

My pleasure!
Such a great idea! Thank you!

use the smaller piece from cutting 9" long pieces for binding
Cool ! Thank you 😃

Small left overs could be used to create drawer dividers
Great idea!
I love this, thank you :-)
Great hack
Thank you!
Love this! Can you show how to do less that a yard?
Will do! Thanks for the question!
Great idea 💡
Thank you! 😊

Love the idea but I have 2-3 yards of all fabrics
Great idea. I love your decorations on the back wall. Do you decorate according to the season?
Ty for sharing this inexpensive tip to store my fabric…will this work w thicker fabrics too or should I use something stronger than foam
Great idea
Glad you think so!
What about larger amounts of fabric? What size do you use?
Very nice!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Doing this today😁
How did it turn out?
Great
Use hair pens no rust ones At Sally’s
Please record at a higher volume can hardly hear you!
Sound is perfect here fyi.
I had to max out the volume, too.
My volume on my iPhone was perfect!
Maxed out the volume on my iPad and it still was nowhere near loud enough.
Got this comment a lot! I will change my settings for future videos! Thank you for letting me know!
Awesome, I might have to consider this option🤪😝 ❤️😀
You should!

Any tricks for storing fat quarters?
I store mine in drawers! I'll do a video on that!
I take the sub cut board and divide into 4 pieces and wrap my fat quarters around the smaller cut pieces. Is foam board acid free?
If you Live in a wet and humid climate DON'T USE FOAMBOARDS ask me how i know lol... Great idea ,but just check on your volume ...had to put really close to hear your directions...thanks🌺💕
Used CC to read her words
Sorry about that! I need to change some settings!
Had a problem hearing you. Turned up as loud as I could.
Thanks Betty! I just recorded a new video with a microphone. I hope this helps!
Why not just use carboard from cereal boxes, Amazon packaging...etc.?
I use the free large boxes from the post office
Great idea.
I had my volume up to max & could barely hear you.
Thanks Ellen! I just recorded a new video with a microphone. I hope this helps!
we cut ours 6 x 10
Good to know!
CHECK VOLUME.....CAN'T HEAR IT.....
Will figure out some new settings for future recordings. Thank you for the feedback!
Oh no we need some sound
Sound is low
This is expensive and time consuming to do. Comic book boards online come in 100/pack for about $36. That's 36 cents a piece. Plus the comic book boards are archival, which protects the fabric.
Audio not the best, too low. Please increase volume on future videos. Left early as could not hear. Thanks.
Sorry about that! Will figure out some better settings!
The volume is too low
