The fact that a company would sell a product that does not function as advertised out of the box (Heroscape has always been sold on it's interlocking tile system) is frankly unacceptable. The customer should in no way need to damage or alter the product that they purchased at a premium to get it to function as intended. I would hope that folks are not enthusiastic about purchasing multiples of essentially a defective product with the intention of bringing it to a working order themselves. The company should be held to task if they are going to charge the prices that they are, and we should not reward them with our money otherwise.
The difficult thing with the jungle terrain is that they presumably already made the expensive molds and likely most of the inventory already exists at this point. I can’t believe they designed a new version of the tile that does not match the other ones that they are making and then didn’t test to make sure it worked just like the other design. It honestly feels like they thought the smooth edge shape would look cool and jungly and never bothered to consider whether the shape of the bottom was important for any reason. Very frustrating since I want this launch to succeed and now they probably have a bunch of defective product on hand. Let’s just really really hope this doesn’t contribute to a failure of the reboot and they fix it immediately for every other product.
@@5hogg23 I think it is “doomed” in the sense that someday it will be discontinued again, but I don’t think it is doomed in the sense that it is a certainty it will fail right out of the gate. My understanding is that they already sold out the first round of pre-orders for painted versions of the battle box so there is at least some significant demand. I doubt they are going to have a solution to the trees that satisfies upset customers and the many other missteps and product flaws (like the randomly super sharp hex tops) are annoying, but I’m still hoping that they can sell enough to make it through the AoA content and keep going with some things we haven’t seen already. It is extra frustrating to watch them make so many errors while slowly rolling out product that avid fans have been aware of for two years now. There is no surprise to build excitement, just mild disappointment at the errors, cost, and the slow rate of the release of the content. If they can make it through the AoA content and announce something new, I think it will really improve morale among fans and boost the chances of longer term success.
My recent purchase of a ticalla jungle set for 133 doesn’t seem so bad all of a sudden.😅 Though I already have two sets of all of wave 1 already purchased (painted/unpainted) so I expect either a refund or a correction to the tree sets and even my two battle box sets. Thanks for bringing this to our attention Sir Heroscape I’ll definitely be emailing Renegade about this.

They've definitely seen it, as they made some comments on discord about it. Basically just saying they are looking into it and will have more to say later. We want to take a look at the trees we have on hand and confirm some details. Thanks for bringing up these issues! I certainly won’t be buying this kit and I think Renegade need to seriously consider 86’ing this one. I can only imagine the cost/benefit analysis that must be going on over there right now on whether or not they should pay to fix the mould or pay to hire some folks with sandpaper. 😅

@@SirHeroscape I've never played Heroscape, but I have purchased other expandable games from Renegade in the past where quality control issues in manufacturing have come up before, like major printing errors on cards or warped miniatures. In cases where these issues have occurred Renegade has been relatively good at stealth shipping corrected replacements to all customers they have on file having purchased the items containing said defect. With photographic confirmation they also tend to make said replacements readily available through their customer service for any of those who may have purchased the defect item out in the wild (where they normally wouldn't have your information on file). As for the defect items already out in the wild not yet sold (sitting in retail stores), those likely won't be recalled. But any restocks in the future at retail of said defect item in question will be the updated correction going forward. The only other thing to note here is that this particular Heroscape correction with the trees will likely take a little while to resolve on Renegade's end as they'll have to make a new mold for the tree/jungle bases in China and then ship the replacements to their HQ in the US, which will take time.
Disappointing that the Grove peices don't fit. Hopefully this get fixed soon. There's no way I'm going to buy any Grove sets if they don't fit. The right thing to do would be for Renegade to refund everyone and do a re-release after they get it right
Have your tried fitting them to the new straight "upper" edge grass hexes on the 24-hex? Obviously this needs to be fixed but maybe their new "upper" hex shape fits with the new "inner" base of the jungle. 🤷♂️

I'll still buy one (down from 2), for the collection, but may or may not use it. I really appreciated the straightforward, honest review. Really glad they sent you one, and it was discovered now vs at Gencon.
While I definitely agree that it's crappy that they need to be shaved down, I guess the silver lining is that it's a relatively easy fix. 🤷♂️ Hopefully they'll see this video and do better in the future.

Already submitted a ticket over this with Renegade. I'd rather them fix this BEFORE sending out ANY pre-orders even if it results in a delay of the launch. Would some people be upset? Sure, but it would be NOTHING compared to everyone getting their pre-orders in their current state and finding out about this only then. That's the kind of QC oversight that could kill this entire line all over again because nobody would trust Renegade after that; this stuff is FAR too high-priced NOT to expect these products to be done RIGHT out of the box. I haven't yet cancelled my pre-order but whether I do will depend on how Renegade responds to my support ticket. I strongly encourage EVERYONE reading this to do the same and let Renegade know this is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
I built a big, multi-level map with this terrain pack and had no issue with the terrain working. I watched the whole video and I don’t think you showed that the trees/shrubs will sit flush if you push down slightly from above. While it definitely wants to slightly twist when it’s just resting in place (which I admit is odd), the hex will twist and sit flush when you apply a little pressure. When you connect the trees/shrubs to 2+ adjacent tiles as required, it holds them in place just fine. I bought an additional box this weekend after I saw how well they worked. I think it’s a great product, and this review seems a bit harsh.
I appreciate the feedback. It’s still my opinion that it is an issue…BUT Ive also had them for a while now and had the opportunity to build and play with them and it is workable. It’s still needs to be fixed on the main manufacturing side, but the pieces ARE still playable, agreed.

I don't think that's possible. Only hope is that these issues were from an earlier prototype printing and what we're receiving is a newer version with better manufacturing.
Man, that really sucks. I can see how it could be missed but it still shouldn't have happened. I hope this is corrected in future runs because it's going to make the set that literally comes with nothing but these defective pieces, a space warmer in warehouses around the country.

The damage has already been done for everyone who pre-ordered this... I'm not sure if I should cancel my order to avoid a defective product, or should I expect them to fix it prior to when they ship them out?
Guess we are not making maps with trees and bushes on lvl 2. Lvl 1 only. I believe that was a design choice not a flaw. I mean in future editions they will fix this because of the up roar.
@@brianpeterson7028 The problem with all this DIY shaving is that it's going to permanently weaken the pieces randomly, and will shorten the product lifespan. I fully expect that within a year we'll start hearing from all the players whose trees and jungle pieces are cracking because it was impossible for everyone to get them shaved down to just exactly the right thickness to solve the problem but not make the bases structurally unable to withstand the normal twist and shear forces of building and unbuilding maps. This will be an expensive mistake for Renegade ... either they'll lose a fortune in shipping out replacement product, or they'll lose a fortune in customer ill will and lost sales. Already people have canceled their preorder plans (and I"m one of them).
@@billmartinson4205 that's a good point, we won't be able to "fix" them with the necessary precision to not eventually break them. I think most players have broken at least some perfectly normal pieces, so these would be even worse after trimming

The reboot is doomed to failure, this could accelerate it depending on who screwed up and has to pay for new tooling.
