His bottom dealing is amazingly smooth. His packet grab and false count is even smoother. But these are just mechanics. The best part - the part that makes him a true master - is the storytelling. The trick presentation is true brilliance.
I don't understand why some peoples break the magic and tell the secret. They think they're superior because they know? And I loved the guy saying : "it's easy" ahaha, It's easy to do it bad ofc, but not easy to do it like Alex elmsley !
One of the absolutely insufferable aspects of the modern magic community. One of the reasons why I gravitated towards magic as a child was knowing that I would be part of this secret society and that honing my craft would be honoring that brotherhood. When I re-entered the hobby a few years ago, after almost a 15 year lull, it put a very bad taste in my mouth that there were magicians outright exposing secrets right on youtube for everyone to see. It really broke my heart. So much so, I had to put the hobby back down again. Only in the last 3 months was I was able to reconcile my place in the art form. Regardless of the state its in, what it's truly about is what Alex is demonstrating in this video; entertainment, wonder, and astonishment.
@Buddyvision2010 Pay close attention at 1:30 he does his count there. I won't say why he does to not spoil the trick but the fact that you didn't catch it shows how slick it is
@@no_tilt_money 1:30 when he shows his hand, he counts off "5" cards, after taking three off going into the fourth, he takes two cards in a stack, while loading from his already counted pile in his right hand into the left to show a previously counted card as his 5th. This is a single elmsley count
@@ArrogantAtheism He did not load anything, he just counted off the first three cards fairly, then he pushed a double over as a single card and that left him with just one last card. And that double push off was done to hide the fact that he's got 6 cards instead of 5. This is not EC, look closely - he's not loading cards back underneath the packet, and if you're gonna insist that he does, you probably have some vision problems.
@@no_tilt_money I'm not saying he's loading back under the packet but rather using the fundamental ec to pass the double and recount the card he does not want seen The ec is applied not just to count fewer cards as more than they are but to conceal certain cards and pass off more cards as fewer than they are. We are both seeing the same exact thing however disagreeing on the terminology used here. When I said load, it is what you referred to as a double lift. I use load in this context since he was not using a double lift in the technical sense. He passed off a stack without flipping it over or lifting it, which is why I refer to it as a load He reached for a previously counted card to count as a newer uncounted card. This is the fundemental of an elmsley count. If you read the i believe third volume of his collected work of Alex elmsley series he discusses the uses I'm speaking about I'm a 15 year member of the magic castle and have been performing for over twenty years. I assure you in this particular instance I am correct in referring to this sleight as an elmsley count
@@ArrogantAtheism 1) I never mentioned any "double lifts", it was a "double push off". 2) You're saying: "He reached for a previously counted card to count as a newer uncounted card". And I say, NO, HE ABSOLUTELY DID NOT. He counted all the cards fairly one by one by pinching them with the right hand fingers, but on the fourth one (when he had 3 cads left) he did a double push off, that's why it looks a little weird - the timing broke off, he was afraid of splitting the double card, so he had to pinch it hard enough. Just one card got hidden from view (5th one from the start) and audience is seeing 5 different backs of 5 different cards, and there's no exchange of cards going on. You can low down the speed of the video to 0,25 and see everything. This is NOT an EC. Period. And if that's not enough, read the next argument in this comment below. 3) If i had 21 cards, for example. And had to convince the audience that there's only 20 using the same technique, I would count 18 cards fairly and on the 19th (when I have 3 cards left) I'd do a double push off, leaving me with just one card to fairly drop it on top as the apparent 20th card. Would you consider THAT to be an Elmsley Count? If you do, you're crazy)) 4) "I'm a 15 year member of the magic castle and have been performing for over twenty years." So, after about 5 or 6 years doing magic you've earned yourself a way to THE Magic Castle. This is a pretty bold statement, not many magicians among those who are concidered the best in the world can say that. If you're THAT GOOD, can you tell me your name please? I should know you (if you're not lying, lol). All I see now is an arrogant atheism, and ohh boy, it is really arrogant.
i dnt get the point of using 2nd deals in the 1st phase? surley just stack them as there coming straight out of the box. ok ive just finished the vid i understand the reason for the 2nds now
@TheBradTobin At 1:30 the count he does is an elmsley count if you can follow his sleights you would know that he has 6 cards in his hands not 5, he steals the muck blue card on the top of the deck that makes the deck appear to be blue. He then applies his 'ghost' count to make 6 cards look like 5. it is very obvious unless you are a layman
@ArrogantAtheism yeah he shows 6 as 5 by grabbing a DOUBLE, and he does not do the ghost count here the ghost count is peeling off one, pushing a block of cards off taking it as a single while stealing back the first card to the bottom then taking a single, than a single, come back and read your comment a year from now maybe youll be more educated then.
@TheBradTobin You are doing nothing but trolling, if you ever read ANYTHING from Alex you would know that his count has different applications and its purpose is to disguise a card by taking it in a block in this case a double, when you perform a standard 3rd card concealment ghost count with four cards you would know that you only steal a block of two. I would suggest that you educate yourself prior to trolling youtube videos.
I love the phrase "the pack was from a different pack."
Me too.
Me too
Brilliant man. This is a magicians magician. Non-magicians will most likely miss why this man is brilliant.
"The pack was from a different pack" - best quote from a Magician I've ever heard
What a master performance. This type of routine is much more beautiful than the "card flourishy" stuff you see nowadays.
There’s nothing wrong with flourishes, as the saying goes “different strokes for different folks”
This is one of my favorite effects. I perform it often, but nothing compares to seeing Alex Elmsley perform it!
His bottom dealing is amazingly smooth. His packet grab and false count is even smoother. But these are just mechanics. The best part - the part that makes him a true master - is the storytelling. The trick presentation is true brilliance.
Much like Richard Turner...
This is what you call a magician's magician. He has perfect sleight of hand a simple but amazing trick and it has an engaging presentation.
pure class! Fantastic magic and great presentation. We should ALL learn something from this.
Alex Elmsley, Genius! Like you say, a true master.
Some stunning second deals and the man himself doing the “Elmsley Count”. Perfect!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
What is even more perfect is the fact that there is NO Elmsley count in this trick.
Alex Elmsley was a true master. It is sad that he is no longer with us.
A Magic Gentleman. Classic. I think we magic lovers all miss him. RIP.
Great stuff. Awesome opener.
What an amazing performer. He is truly my hero.
I want to see more videos of him... so entertaining!
Amazing presentation. He's just amazing.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLANT DEARLORD
He's amazing and so smooth

Cyrille P right? I also figured it out but for the respect of magic... 🤐

@TheBradTobin He does do the elmsley or ghost count (same thing) and specifically mentions doing so in his writings regarding this trick.
I couldn't agree more! Thanks for the comment.

he is...he's a ghost

He's not doing it in this trick... amazing hahaha.

Easy trick first second deal and emsly
@ArrogantAtheism buckling and taking a double is not original to elmsley and its certainly not the elmsley count.
