I’m a character designer and storyboard artist these days but for over twenty years I lectured in these techniques. It’s nice to see this being taught online. Great job. 👏🏼
This is fascinating. I have an IPad Pro and Apple Pencil with Procreate and really wanna try this out. It’s amazing how quickly it came together - but then you know what you’re doing… 😊
David, excellent video! I remember taking the workshop from you at Sadie Valeria Atelier in San Francisco several years ago. I still have the portrait you painted of the model for that week. I was actually drawing a portrait of my wife in graphite on paper when your video popped up. Super cool to draw with you at the same time. Give my best to your lovely wife.
I am incredibly grateful for yet another exceptional video. Your ability to explain concepts clearly is really helpful. Similar to your drawing skills, you break it down into manageable parts. I would appreciate your guidance on which iPad would be best for a beginner just starting in digital art, I have never owned an IPad before. I recall watching a video where you discussed the iPad Pencil nibs, and if you have already covered this topic, could you please provide a link or mention the video title? Although I haven’t watched all your videos, I plan to do so, based on the outstanding quality of the ones I have watched. Thank you once again for dedicating your time to creating these resources and for your genuine responses, which I appreciate and is rare to see on a channel especially from an artist of your caliber. Update- I just watched your interview about how you went viral from using iPad 14 years ago. LOL I will now go back and watch those videos. 😅
I think memorializing people is kinda what art is all about. One day we will all be gone, and the art we make is what we will leave behind. Hopefully people will still be affected by the images we make, hopefully they will be inspired to be grateful for the people in their own lives in their own time. The paper sound is nice too.
the clip title does not match whats shown at the end. something must be off- measurements or cam angle. dont give up. if nothing else try to do some work on the mouth, unless this is a very rough sketch with no likeness as the goal. btw all bearded men look similar, esp with glasses.
Any time you draw, there is always possibility of inaccuracy. You do what works for you, don't stress about what works for someone else. The inaccuracies are your end if you are being inaccurate.

Great tutorial ! It helps a lot those trying to understand better the process of portrait drawing...Amazing method, thanks a lot !!!
Thanks! It's really about seeing the shapes.
Thanks!
wow! i appreciate the support!
David you're a saint aside from a master artist. Thank you so much for sharing this. All the best to you and yours.
You are a freaking genius. You are doing this very complicated mathematical drawing and talking at the same time. I’m dead ❤
Haha! It’s hard to remember what I’m saying sometimes! 😂

Such great content all around, thanks David!
Hi David thank you so much for another amazing lesson. You are awesome ❤❤❤

Wow that's awesome! That was such a fun workshop!
Excellent video. Thanks!

Thanks! I'd suggest starting with the most basic iPad, it will be plenty of power to get you going!
Thank you!!

The paper sound is nice too.
totally agree!
This was such a useful video thank you I get close . Just not close enough 😊
Great video. What drawing program do you use, a computer (drawing tablet) or iPad?
Thanks! I use an ipad with procreate and the apple pencil version 2 i believe. thanks for watching!
Do you have that screen protector that simulates a paper like feel? Sounds like it.
i do!
What Ipad and program do you use? What is that "paper" feel sheet you use on top of your Ipad called? Thank you for the tutorial.
Very inspiring, thank you. Question - do you have a layer of textured “paper” on procreate?
Yes I am! I took some pics of my oldest books end papers and made them into pngs for the iPad drawings.
Have you ever shared your tan paper background that you use for your iPad drawings?
That's a great idea! I'll try to do a pack of them!
❤❤❤❤❤
this is the same as Gerome's plumb line or my Granny's stick..
you did not reinvent the wheel
I definitely have learned so much from those before us! I want to see granny's stick! What is it used for besides waking ya up if ya fall asleep? :)
@ it’s a stick used to take measurements. Granny used an imaginary line. I have found the real line works better
@@seanfaherty i find sticks or strings to be tough, mostly to see the edge of the stick/plumb in focus vs the model. so it just didn’t work for me.
@ yup, there is that back and forth .
It’s just a tool.
And it does take a bit.
thanks for the tip!

Versus old way . Too much inaccuracy possible. WAY
