Such a humble and great talent, Lyle Lovett is a true gentleman and one of the best songwriters of his generation.
Lyle was born with talent and he hit the lotto with great accomodating/supportive parents. Most of us have neither or at best -- one of the two.
2 of his comments make me cry. having long term friendships and having people who love and support you thru your life. I have the first a little bit, not much, but not the second since my father died 33 yrs ago.
One of the greatest, a True Legend, so humble, so kind. Unfortanetly I will never see him perform since I live in the Netherlands. 🤠

I bought Lyle's first album after seeing a review in Rolling Stone. Say what you will about that mag but I heard about artists like Lyle, Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, Foster and Lloyd and Dwight Yoakam through reviews of their music in RS. Their records sat in my record collection next to Husker Du, The Replacements, R.E.M., Pretenders, XTC, Todd Rundgren etc. and were just as important to me as any of the rock and pop stuff.
Saw Lyle many years ago in Dublin Ireland , a show largely produced by Philip Donnelly who had been John Prine's wingman for several years ( and lifelong friend).
There was a fairly young Marty Stuart , Philip , John Prine , Rachel Peer, Cowboy Jack and Lyle... in a shiny new suit and that big bushy hair.... 1988 maybe 🤔.
They were brilliant, he was brilliant, some of that show is up here on YT .

Lyle is a universal musician. He plays it all. But if you think Nashville Pop is 'Country Music', than no. He actually plays everything extremely well.
