I completely agree. Steve is fabulous. I go to church on Sunday and then I come home and go to church with Steve the rest of the afternoon once I have changed clothes and eaten. I get educated in comfort. I have my pets around me. It is a wonderful way to escape the horrible heat of summer.
Charles Durning died same day as Jack Klugman. Dec 24 2012. Was the only survivor of his platoon on D Day. Deeply affected him but was low key. Great actor and gentleman.
My grandfather passed away on December 24, 1969. He died 2 days shy of 9 months after his mother, which I always thought was somewhat symbolic. My cousin, my grandfather's nephew, passed away on December 24, 1975. He is buried not far from my grandparents and his parents. My mother and I visit them and others every year on December 24th. Ever since that Christmas Eve of 1969, when I saw my grandfather slip away before my very eyes at 6 PM, Christmas has had another dimension to it in our family, though I wouldn't necessarily call it a sad one; perhaps bittersweet is a better term. Though we grieve our loss of having them still here with us, we as Christians rejoice that my grandfather and my cousin "made it home" in time to celebrate the birth of our Lord.
A co-worker's widowed mother died on Christmas day. She was in her 90s and had attended morning mass almost every single day of her life. My co-worker said that while he and his family were sad to lose her, they were also happy for her. What greater Christmas gift could this fine lady have received than to wake up in the arms of her husband and at the side of her God?
My family seems to find holidays the best time to pass. My father died on New Years Eve of 1988, my mother and sister bracketed Easter Sunday in 1982, and my mother-in-law died on Halloween in 1990. My kids asked what holiday I planned to die on and I said Leap Day because I have a three in four chance of not dying in any four year period.

Cynthia Thomas Well yes, that’s true, and of course any death of a loved one is always sad for their family and friends. But I think that we invest so much meaning into Christmas (whether you’re religious or not) that somehow it seems so much worse when someone does pass away at that time of year, when most people are busy celebrating with parties and gift-giving and all the rest of the happy seasonal traditions.
Ironically, Dean Martin's mother also died on Christmas Day. And for the record...the song is "Everybody Loves Somebody" . RIP Dino...the coolest person who ever lived.
I lost my mother on xmas day, 1972 I was ten yo. Dad passed 4 mo later a week after I turned 11. I handled it tho xmas is not the joy I once was to me. I care little about my b-day too. But, u can make it onward. I met spiritual people and learn meditation and it helped much. Also, WRITE to people, TV, Schools any who will listen and help w your experiences as it will help you.

Although she did not die on Christmas Day, Brittany Murphy was buried on Christmas Eve at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. Reportedly, Christmas was one of her favorite holidays and it is ironic that she was buried on Christmas Eve. Perhaps Christmas is not the saddest day of the year to die but a special time to pass away. Perhaps it is all a matter of perspective and personal values. Whatever the case, we should all strive to make the most of time we are alive to make the world a more kinder and caring place. How funny, you're so right, Brittany Murphy is a good example of how, for many, Christmas and other holidays might be the happiest and most special days to die. If I had my choice I would love to die on my birthday. From the comments I've received, though, birthdays would be the worst day for most people. So, I agree. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day is a sad time for families to lose loved ones. Being a funeral director and embalmer I have unfortunately been called to duty on these days. As for Leon Schlessinger's crypt plaque, it is amazing what WD 40 and a cloth can do to shine them up. It also helps repel water on outdoor plaques. I started in the business as a monument cutter and manufactured and installed, cleaned and repaired grave and crypt markers. Most of the dullness is due to oxidation of the bronze and the WD 40 helps remove the oxidation.
Thanks for the cleaning tip Dr Roberts. I haven't heard that one. I think it's sad that so many never go back to visit their loved ones once they are buried. I think that's why there are so many headstones and plaques that could use a little TLC. I bet you have a lot of interesting stories in your line of work. Thanks for watching and sharing this one!
Too bad that there aren't volunteer groups who go to the graves of the famous and so some tidy up. A volunteer group and have a picnic afterwards. Just a thought.
I think they do in many cemeteries around the country. I haven't seen that done here, but sounds like a good idea, with the permission of the cemeteries.
On my 21st my in-laws took me to Vegas to meet Dean Martin, I'm now 61 years old, he got me up on stage and sang Spanish eyes to me. I will never forget that night
Not sure if mentioned in other comments but Joan Blondell passed on Dec. 25, 1979 and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale). Was watching Desk Set, one of my favorite movies the other day and was curious about her. I looked her up and saw the date of her passing and immediately thought of this site and wanted to share. Thanks for all your wonderful videos. I always enjoy them.
I think what makes Dean Martin’s death even sadder is that he was a heartbroken man at the time of his death. He never recovered from the devastation of his son dying in a plane crash.
Karen O That’s sadly very true. In many interviews I have seen or read, everyone who knew Dean all said that losing Dean Paul just broke his heart, and he was never able to get over it. I am lucky because I still have my children alive, but I’m sure that there are many others who can relate to his heartbreak (and his wife Jeannie too because of course it was her son as well, and she said in on interview that “I will never know true joy ever again”) As has been said before; ‘No parent should have to bury their child....it is not in the natural order of things.’
Linda Shelley yes , my son and his wife lost a baby at 4 months old (7 years ago) and he can’t utter his sons name without crying. They say it’s the worst pain and I believe it 😔
My father died on Christmas morning 1985. You never get over, or forget spending Christmas making arrangements and picking out a casket, especially when it was totally unexpected.
I was real young when Dean Martin had his tv show but I remember watching it with my family. I remember him running out and jumping up onto the grand piano to sit. One show he ran out and jumped up on the piano and that piano busted into pieces. The show went straight into a commercial and when the show came back on, Dean Martin was standing next to an upright piano. He looks in the camera and said "This is the only piano we could find and I hurt my tutu!" I will never forget that show and the smooth voice of Dean Martin.
My Mom and Dad never wanted to “mess up” Christmas by dying on that day. (Their words not mine.) They got their wish, one died in February and the other in August. I don’t want to mess up Christmas either.
My mother didn't die on Christmas. She died on December 18th, 2012, (day after my 48th birthday), but was buried on Christmas Eve Day. To me Christmas isn't the same anymore without my mom. It was her favorite holiday and she made it so special. She was a very kind hearted person and loved everyone. She was truly an angel on earth. I love and miss you mom! 💐
I’m with you” about Christmas being a sad day to die specially for your loved ones as it’s a date one is never going to forget as such...not saying one forgets a loved ones passing away date. I also think Mothers Day or Fathers Day is another day one should not pass away on. BUT we all know in the end when our time is up it’s up no matter what day or where we might be. 💞
I think the only thing worse then dying on Christmas Day is dying on your own birthday. My girlfriend passed away mere days after her birthday. Born November 10, 1982.... died November 24, 2018

The day of my cousins birthday she had a call from school to say her daughter wasn't well (she was born with a heart defect ) she picked her up took her round to my mom's as that was closer than taking her home and she passed away before the medics got to her. My cousin no longer celebrates her birthday.her daughter was 5yrs old 😣😣

I saw & clicked on this video because it was 10 Christmas mornings ago that my Dad died, unexpectedly from a heart attack (sick in bed). Just 3 months short of his 67th birthday. The sadness continues, though it does get a little easier as time goes by. But I always feel a little extra sad on Christmas, mostly because he died alone... Honestly, I think the holidays hold special meaning for people and to lose family on those days when families would normally gather together to have fun are instead gathering to say goodbye to loved ones makes the holidays bittersweet for people that have experienced losing their loved ones on those days. but it's bittersweet anyway if their loved ones died on a holiday or not.
My mom died on Thanksgiving day 14 years ago. I have not celebrated since. So I understand how hard it is if someone passes away on such a special holiday. She put the turkey in the oven and took a nap and didn't wake up. So sad for all these peoples families :(

I will always be proud of my uncle because of him when l was 18 years old l went into the navy for four years. He was a very hardworking man he told me story's of that time. I wish he had seen those pictures he is in many of them.
I also remember a lot of people have passed away before or after Christmas; my dearest mother passed away before Christmas on 2017; so yes I understand completely!! We used to watch the Dean Martin's roasts and were the best he ever did!! As a family also remember we're on a long journey; to the earth and back!! You speak so many kind words about many people who have gone ahead of us and you bring back many memories thanks again!!
While my mother had two valid documents with different DOB, she passed away just six hours shy of the birthdate she chose. She chose the earlier DOB in order to retire a year sooner. 🌲🌲🌲
I love George Michael, he died on Christmas, which was his favorite holiday. It was his mother’s birthday. He sings my favorite song, Last Christmas. I use to love Christmas but after I lost my husband I just can’t seem to get into it. Now my sister is gone, followed 69 days later by my dad. Then my mother last year. Now it’s just me & my son. We can’t afford to celebrate 😩

Indeed. Also, 2016 was a crazy year, beginning w/ the death of Natalie Cole [though she passed away on New Year's Eve 2015]. That led to a trend where everyone we knew and loved passed away: David Bowie Glenn Frey Carrie Fisher Debbie Reynolds [though she couldn't handle the pain no more] Prince Alan Rickman [Professor Snape] Juan Gabriel Florence Henderson Joanie Laurer [Chyna, 9th Wonder of the World] I can name more and more, but you get what I'm saying.
Not weird. I was jolted by Whitney's death, even though we all were "expecting" something bad at any moment. Like with Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, etc. Whitney just got me.
Waited on Mr. Martin in Chicago and Las Vegas. I have his autographed picture and the autographed picture of just about everyone on the roasts including Mr. Klugman. Great video!!! Always enjoy watching your channel!
I met Loni Anderson once and she was very nice and unbelievably beautiful in person. TV did not do her justice. I also stood next to Larry Hagman at the Thrifty Drug store check out line in Palm Springs, CA back in the 1970s, post I Dream of Jeannie and pre Dallas. He didn't speak to anyone. He had very bloodshot eyes and a basket full of liquor :-) I've only had one bad encounter with a very nasty celebrity, whose name I won't mention. He was very big in the 1970s but faded away from the spotlight. Probably because of his bad attitude. I feel for them all. Being famous sounds awful in just about every way, except maybe the money :-)

My grandma wasn't famous but she was a wonderful inspiring woman, she was born 12/24/1889 and passed away 12/25/58 was has a saying on her headstone that was a local retailers saying from a contest she won. "Give me flower while I'm living, do not put them on my grave for when I'm dead I do not know the difference between rain or snow" It was for Snow laundry detergent.
I Honestly Believe it would be just as Heartbreaking to lose a spouse, Francee', boyfriend, girlfriend or "steady" on Valentine's Day or be interred or buried on that day. However Any day is Extremely Sad & Very difficult.
I think anyone dying around the holidays is traumatic, beginning with Thanksgiving, a holiday celebrated by mostly one and all. That begins the actual holiday season, and let's not forget Hanukkah, which sometime coincides with Christmas & for those who celebrate Kwanzaa, along with Christmas. Kwanzaa begins 12/26. Then of course when the old yr transitions into the new. Each holiday you look around your table, there's one less. But sadly, no matter when on expires, it's a hurtful time😳
Dec. gyrrl I get what you’re saying , but Thanksgiving is only celebrated in America and Canada. It’s not a holiday in other countries, as Christmas is. And of course, every death of a loved one is very sad for those left behind (although I’m sure in many cases it must be a welcome release from pain and suffering for the deceased person), but somehow it must seem worse when everyone else is celebrating the holiday.
Decades prior to Dean Martin's death on Christmas day was his own mother's death. His daughter Deana said they always tried to make the day festive, cheerful and all family involved for him.
Dean Martin hated rock n roll. Dean told his son Dean Paul, himself a Beatles fan, that he would "knock his pallies off the charts." That prediction came true. Everybody Loves Somebody took the number one spot from A Hard Day's Night.
My daddy died on my moms birthday, 3/23/12. She passed 12/19/07. He couldn't live without her anymore. He slipped into a coma and faded away. He was 77.
My father died on my birthday, August 13 , 2010. That is a pretty sad day for me. Happily he passed with many members of his family by him, many saw him take his last breath. Very sad. But dad was a good man, husband, father, son and friend to many people. No one ever had a bad word to say about him.

I didn't know Dean died on Christmas day. My sister died aged 53 on 09 Dec 2015, George and my sister where to young So sad. My father died on New year's Eve 2012. I still get upset. It is always terrible when you lose someone close no matter what day it might be. Thank you for the video.

My birthday is 18 December! Zsa Zsa Gabor died on that day; so did Chris Farley of SNL). People born on that same day include DMX, Brad Pitt, Christine Agulara, and Steven Speilberg.
My husband and I love cemeteries. We go all over calif looking for various people. My husband had at least 100 binders with information. We like mostly old mining cemeteries since we have lived in Sacramento the past 22 years. It is a great hobby and a way to remember those who have past on.
I haven't been to Sacramento cemeteries yet, but my brother lives there, so I hope to visit some this year. Thanks for sharing your story. My niece died on Christmas in 2013 and my sister would not let it happen, she held on till a couple of minutes after midnight to pass on the 26th last year the day after Christmas. My brother passed away in 03 on my mom's birthday. Only the good Lord knows. Dan
Captain Frank was a captain in the US Army in the Civil War. There is an upright marker indicating that he was in the a Grand Army of the Republic which was the post Civil War veterans association of the Army of the Potomac, US Grant, Commanding. The captain had a son, Major Copland Frank who was an officer in the US Army in World War One. The major is buried in Forest Lawn Glendale. Thank you for your service, gentlemen.

My Great Grand Mother, Mary Anderson Morgan of Lancaster KY died on Christmas Day during the great flu pandemic of the 1917 or 1918. This resulted in a depression that has felt in our family for several generations.
My brother was BORN on Christmas Day and DIED on Easter Sunday. He was a nurse in Vietnam and a really good person. RIP, Larry...and Happy Birthday.

Although she did not die on Christmas Day, Brittany Murphy was buried on Christmas Eve at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. Reportedly, Christmas was one of her favorite holidays and it is ironic that she was buried on Christmas Eve. Perhaps Christmas is not the saddest day of the year to die but a special time to pass away. Perhaps it is all a matter of perspective and personal values. Whatever the case, we should all strive to make the most of time we are alive to make the world a more kinder and caring place. How funny, you're so right, Brittany Murphy is a good example of how, for many, Christmas and other holidays might be the happiest and most special days to die. If I had my choice I would love to die on my birthday. From the comments I've received, though, birthdays would be the worst day for most people. So, I agree. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day is a sad time for families to lose loved ones. Being a funeral director and embalmer I have unfortunately been called to duty on these days. As for Leon Schlessinger's crypt plaque, it is amazing what WD 40 and a cloth can do to shine them up. It also helps repel water on outdoor plaques. I started in the business as a monument cutter and manufactured and installed, cleaned and repaired grave and crypt markers. Most of the dullness is due to oxidation of the bronze and the WD 40 helps remove the oxidation.
Thanks for the cleaning tip Dr Roberts. I haven't heard that one. I think it's sad that so many never go back to visit their loved ones once they are buried. I think that's why there are so many headstones and plaques that could use a little TLC. I bet you have a lot of interesting stories in your line of work. Thanks for watching and sharing this one!
Too bad that there aren't volunteer groups who go to the graves of the famous and so some tidy up. A volunteer group and have a picnic afterwards. Just a thought.
I think they do in many cemeteries around the country. I haven't seen that done here, but sounds like a good idea, with the permission of the cemeteries.
On my 21st my in-laws took me to Vegas to meet Dean Martin, I'm now 61 years old, he got me up on stage and sang Spanish eyes to me. I will never forget that night

Not sure if mentioned in other comments but Joan Blondell passed on Dec. 25, 1979 and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale). Was watching Desk Set, one of my favorite movies the other day and was curious about her. I looked her up and saw the date of her passing and immediately thought of this site and wanted to share. Karen O That’s sadly very true. In many interviews I have seen or read, everyone who knew Dean all said that losing Dean Paul just broke his heart, and he was never able to get over it. I am lucky because I still have my children alive, but I’m sure that there are many others who can relate to his heartbreak (and his wife Jeannie too because of course it was her son as well, and she said in on interview that “I will never know true joy ever again”) As has been said before; ‘No parent should have to bury their child....it is not in the natural order of things.’
Linda Shelley yes , my son and his wife lost a baby at 4 months old (7 years ago) and he can’t utter his sons name without crying. They say it’s the worst pain and I believe it 😔

I was real young when Dean Martin had his tv show but I remember watching it with my family. I remember him running out and jumping up onto the grand piano to sit. One show he ran out and jumped up on the piano and that piano busted into pieces. The show went straight into a commercial and when the show came back on, Dean Martin was standing next to an upright piano. He looks in the camera and said "This is the only piano we could find and I hurt my tutu!" I will never forget that show and the smooth voice of Dean Martin.

My mother didn't die on Christmas. She died on December 18th, 2012, (day after my 48th birthday), but was buried on Christmas Eve Day. To me Christmas isn't the same anymore without my mom. It was her favorite holiday and she made it so special. She was a very kind hearted person and loved everyone. She was truly an angel on earth. I love and miss you mom! 💐

I saw & clicked on this video because it was 10 Christmas mornings ago that my Dad died, unexpectedly from a heart attack (sick in bed). Just 3 months short of his 67th birthday.

Honestly, I think the holidays hold special meaning for people and to lose family on those days when families would normally gather together to have fun are instead gathering to say goodbye to loved ones makes the holidays bittersweet for people that have experienced losing their loved ones on those days. but it's bittersweet anyway if their loved ones died on a holiday or not.

My mom died on Thanksgiving day 14 years ago. I have not celebrated since. So I understand how hard it is if someone passes away on such a special holiday. She put the turkey in the oven and took a nap and didn't wake up. So sad for all these peoples families :(

I also remember a lot of people have passed away before or after Christmas; my dearest mother passed away before Christmas on 2017; so yes I understand completely!! We used to watch the Dean Martin's roasts and were the best he ever did!! As a family also remember we're on a long journey; to the earth and back!! You speak so many kind words about many people who have gone ahead of us and you bring back many memories thanks again!!

I met Loni Anderson once and she was very nice and unbelievably beautiful in person. TV did not do her justice. I also stood next to Larry Hagman at the Thrifty Drug store check out line in Palm Springs, CA back in the 1970s, post I Dream of Jeannie and pre Dallas. He didn't speak to anyone. He had very bloodshot eyes and a basket full of liquor :-) I've only had one bad encounter with a very nasty celebrity, whose name I won't mention. He was very big in the 1970s but faded away from the spotlight. Probably because of his bad attitude. I feel for them all. Being famous sounds awful in just about every way, except maybe the money :-)

My grandma wasn't famous but she was a wonderful inspiring woman, she was born 12/24/1889 and passed away 12/25/58 was has a saying on her headstone that was a local retailers saying from a contest she won. "Give me flower while I'm living, do not put them on my grave for when I'm dead I do not know the difference between rain or snow" It was for Snow laundry detergent.

I Honestly Believe it would be just as Heartbreaking to lose a spouse, Francee', boyfriend, girlfriend or "steady" on Valentine's Day or be interred or buried on that day.
However Any day is Extremely Sad & Very difficult.
I think anyone dying around the holidays is traumatic, beginning with Thanksgiving, a holiday celebrated by mostly one and all. That begins the actual holiday season, and let's not forget Hanukkah, which sometime coincides with Christmas & for those who celebrate Kwanzaa, along with Christmas. Kwanzaa begins 12/26. Then of course when the old yr transitions into the new. Each holiday you look around your table, there's one less. But sadly, no matter when on expires, it's a hurtful time😳
Dec. gyrrl I get what you’re saying , but Thanksgiving is only celebrated in America and Canada. It’s not a holiday in other countries, as Christmas is. And of course, every death of a loved one is very sad for those left behind (although I’m sure in many cases it must be a welcome release from pain and suffering for the deceased person), but somehow it must seem worse when everyone else is celebrating the holiday.
Decades prior to Dean Martin's death on Christmas day was his own mother's death. His daughter Deana said they always tried to make the day festive, cheerful and all family involved for him.

My father died on my birthday, August 13 , 2010. That is a pretty sad day for me. Happily he passed with many members of his family by him, many saw him take his last breath. Very sad. But dad was a good man, husband, father, son and friend to many people. No one ever had a bad word to say about him.

I didn't know Dean died on Christmas day. My sister died aged 53 on 09 Dec 2015, George and my sister where to young So sad. My father died on New year's Eve 2012. I still get upset. It is always terrible when you lose someone close no matter what day it might be. Thank you for the video.

My husband and I love cemeteries. We go all over calif looking for various people. My husband had at least 100 binders with information. We like mostly old mining cemeteries since we have lived in Sacramento the past 22 years. It is a great hobby and a way to remember those who have past on.
I haven't been to Sacramento cemeteries yet, but my brother lives there, so I hope to visit some this year. Thanks for sharing your story. Captain Frank was a captain in the US Army in the Civil War. There is an upright marker indicating that he was in the a Grand Army of the Republic which was the post Civil War veterans association of the Army of the Potomac, US Grant, Commanding. The captain had a son, Major Copland Frank who was an officer in the US Army in World War One. The major is buried in Forest Lawn Glendale. Thank you for your service, gentlemen.

My Great Grand Mother, Mary Anderson Morgan of Lancaster KY died on Christmas Day during the great flu pandemic of the 1917 or 1918. This resulted in a depression that has felt in our family for several generations.
