I gotta tell you, every time I start watching one of your videos I already "like" it even before I watch it all, because I know it's going to be a good one. Good job!
Sweet !... Aussie Dave in PA here man,... I can't go anywhere at the moment so I have been having fun in the yard with Tarp shelters & knots that I have seen on this channel :)
Learned this by pure accident setting up the Trekker tarp this spring. Lost my balance and grabbed the tarp and noticed how much more slack I had. Awesome video Dan!
I'm one of the guys that pretty much knows all this stuff BUT I definitely learned from tip. THANKS!!! Now maybe I do everything now, or at least until the next tip. Great video keep going STRONG!!!
That's a great idea for beginning bushcrafters! Most bushcrafters would have enough common sense to do that but when they're just starting, that probably wouldn't occur to them. You done a good thing Dan by teaching them that. As you said another tool for the toolbox. Damn I'm going to have to get me another toolbox. Thanks for the video Dan have a great day and stay safe and keep you powder dry!
Simple, easy and something usually overlooked. Thanks for showing us this as I struggle with my tarps and just set out my pegs and then tighten everything up after the fact.
Have a few camping trips planned for the next couple months. This video is just what I needed to see. I find getting the tarp just right to be rather tricky. Thanks for the golden nugget. Now, to get up the mountain and get at it! 🎯
Thanks Dan for more tools for the toolbox! It seems so simple yet people don't think of it me being one of them . Great informative video Dan!! Take care and stay safe my friend
This tip is one of those where you definitely are like "No dip, Dan!", but in reality, I personally have found that I don't think this obviously out in the field very often lol. It's nice to be reminded of these ideas, because the more you hear or read about it, the more likely you're going to remember it in the field
^^This. Sure it's obvious. But when I'm in the woods, I'm often rushing around not thinking as clearly as I would be when I'm just casually watching RUclips. I really think that's why so many of the bushcraft mentors rely on cute ABC systems or funky acronyms or anything rote like that. You just drill it, say it, repeat it, until your body can just go through the motions while you setup camp.
The simplest solutions are always the best ones.... and a good life is made of simple solutions.... even if they are not easy to execute, they are simple
Please please please do a video on how to use the knotted cord to set up your tarp. We were taught it in basic training but I've never seen a video explaining how to double over the cord, put overhand knots every 4-6 inches, and then lock them against each other so they stay tight but can be collapsed with a single pull. It is such a cool method but doesn't seem to be taught anywhere else.
Just a recommendation as TMI, a video for top 10 tips, top ten techniques and top ten knots. Instead 500 of each OR minimize to 5 of each .... regardless your channel is excellent !! thank you.
For even more pull, use the toggle as your grip and stand facing down the length of the tarp/ridgeline pulling towards you with one hand, and hike the prussic with the other hand.
When I go camping with the family I set up an overhead 'A-frame' tarp shelter with the tarp draped over the ridgeline. (It's a typical plastic tarp, usually blue or orange.) How can I get the slack out of the bottom edges of the tarp? The ridgeline is super tight, the top of the tarp is pulled super tight, the corner guy lines are super tight, and yet my tarp still sags considerably between points of contact and rain will even pool in the middle. Are my guy lines at the wrong angle relative to the ridgeline? They're usually about 30 degrees off perpendicular.
I got some chicken of the woods last year n there were lots of lil black magots in them. I soak them in water a couple hours and they didn't come out. What could we do to get them out? 💥 🤠👍💯
I think I would carry a few yards of half inch polypro, blue for preference, then you can handle your rope properly ( and see where the bloody thing is !)
That was not understandable. If you had shown how to do every step it might have made sense. How does the stick even stay in place, or why is the stick even there? Just some feedback to help you see what others might be seeing.
Man..I knew that...lmao...joking.. kinda I figured that part out by accident with trial and error. But with that I never would have known that I should tell someone that. Great tip! It works! K.i.s.s. right!?
I gotta tell you, every time I start watching one of your videos I already "like" it even before I watch it all, because I know it's going to be a good one. Good job!
Diggin' what you do, Dan.
Dan, another common sense tip. Thank you for sharing!

Three Thumbs Way Up!

Good tip
Cool going to try it.. it's up in the air if I'm going to be homeless again..
I gotta ask, what kind of desert survival do you know?

Simple...but necessary to know
thanks
Good.
Yes. Nais. I did not do that.

Nice trick but I don't know that knot. I will have to keep watching
Grabbing the tarp makes since to adjust the prussic
Sigh me up to the scouts
genuis
I think I would carry a few yards of half inch polypro, blue for preference, then you can handle your rope properly ( and see where the bloody thing is !)
Yes yes yes!
What’s the name of the brand of tarp you use?
Make sure your not useing a Grabber tarp..good quality tarp indeed
I didn't guess you as a heavy metal kind of guy =)
