- Finally managed to do a run without failing a mission! It´s not mistake-free though.
Update: Annotations added.
Definition 100%: All Jobs (22), All Kill Frenzies (20), All Tokens (50) and finishing the level by going to the check-out point.
Game version: PC version 9.6
About the run:
I messed up the respect-balancing which costed me probably 2 minutes and also had one unintended death and one bust which wasted another 50 secs. Also several driving mistakes and going to the wrong direction two times. But all in all a good run since it´s hard to finish one.

This exact level of this exact game has such a special place in my heart, when I was a kid the absolute MOST fun I ever had was when we’d drive three hours away to see my grandparents and I’d just spend the whole visit playing this on their PlayStation. I literally looked forward to GTA2 so much every time.

Gotta love how bonkers this installment is compared to the rest of the series. The retrofuturistic vibe, weird gangs and missions that can get crazy. Maybe this game is as old as me, but I still keep it in high regard.

Those times.. when I didnt have any worries. I didnt understand this game 'cause I didnt speak english... although its true that thx to games I was able to understand english pretty fast. But still, I didnt need it. The only problem was my mom who let me play only 1 hour a day so the rest of a day I had to spend out with friends...

When I was a kid, I had been looking forward to this game's release for weeks or even months before it came out. The local gaming magazine i used to read gave it a score of 2,5/10. I didn't understand why the game got such a low score, it was so much fun and its gameplay was very smooth. Many years later, the magazine actually acknowledged that they gave it a wrong score :)
Because they're letting the newer games influence their judgment

@Shorty the game was pretty strong when it came out. It was exciting because of the open world, and it was exciting because of the violence, it almost felt like doing something illegal yourself when playing it. It wasn't such a mainstresm game like nowadays. You got points for running people over and stuff, it was more antisocial in nature

+TheRedNeckGamer777 You can get the first two games easily for free, you just need to type a few magic words in google. ;) But maybe you are a collector what do I know, hehe. About PC being cheaper than PS1, PC games generally were always cheaper than console games, so its normal I think.

@@user-sr6pi5lp3q блин, это не "тупые смерти", а способ сократить время прохождения игры за счёт телепортации. В спидранах все средства хороши. Он использовал ебанутый алгоритм генерации людей, чтобы они появлялись "из воздуха" и он мог их убить. Это никем не запрещено. По классике, в спидранах разрешено использовать всё, что есть в ванильной версии игры, в том числе баги и несовершенства алгоритмов.

Oh man, does this game take me back! I was 15 when this game came out, I discovered GTA about a year after it was originally released. At school out of all places, some kids were playing it and I was like oh what's that game called? Who knew it would lead me to be a big fan of the series later on! back when it was still DMA Design! Anyway I remember hearing on GOURANGA.com that GTA 2 was in the works and I couldn't wait for the trail to come out, looking every day at the countdown meter on the GTA 2 website. I think it was the end of September 99 when the trial came out. Hard to believe 56k connections is what we used to download games with back then hahaha. Well the big day came in October when it was official released I ran down to EBGAMES, and sure enough it was out! Unfortunly being a teenager I didn't have the funds to buy it :( Then I heard about the PS1 Emulator called BLEEM! where you could play PS1 games on your PC! I eventually ended up renting it and it was awesome being able to play the full version! I never did end up buying it, I met a guy who made an ISO and uploaded to an FTP, still have my burned copy around somewhere. Thanks for the memories!
Cool story. I remember discovering this game through a demo version which was on a CD of some computer game magazine in late 99. Game was limited to 5 minutes there. Fortunately my brother bought the full version of it later and I managed to pass the first level, but cheated in the next stages. Still have the original CD version, but it doesn´t work on modern OS.
check out a program called DosBox that should allow you to play it on modern pc's. I used it on my MacBook Pro and it worked for GTA.
I meant gta2, I have the updated non CD version from Rockstar since long ago.
About dosbox I have dosbox svn daum, so I can play it with 3dfx graphics. I did the gta london 69 speedruns on dosbox. =)

Yes that is just some casual citizen life in gta2. Also note there are no women in gta2, only on the menu screen haha.

We all have our favourite cars of the game. My one is Beamer from Downtown District, T-Rex from the Residential District and maybe Stingray from the Industrial District

GTA3 has aged badly, whereas GTA2 has aged... not at all. If this was some indie game released in 2020, it could still be a huge hit.

When I was playing GTA2, I always tried to increase respect for one gang without decrasing respect for another gang. In first map, it was scrapping Wellards at Zaibatsu's car crusher. In the second map, it was scrapping FBI cars. In the third map, it was possible to break the balance by killing people from gang A to get respect from gang B, then kill people from gang B, then again kill gang A when you get minimal possible respect from gang A but not max possible respect from gang B.

Yeah, the first 3 were kind of boring. It didn't get truly entertaining until GTA III.
@SimplyInspire 3 was a game changer. It wasn't perfect, but it brought a whole new standard to gaming and created many imitators. Vice City was my favorite. I would've liked San Andreas more but I'd just finished Vice City and was so burnt out, then just gave them back (was borrowing). Did like the character altering features w/San Andreas. I wanted to make him the fattest! Lol.
