One of the greatest athletes in American sports history. Don’t let his 24 years of playing fool you that he lost roughly 2 seasons because he was drafted to fight in the Korean War. He truly was an American hero. Rest in peace Willie. ❤

He played 22 years, but made 24 All-Star teams because they played multiple games a couple of times.

Thank You MLB for the best tribute by far to our greatest baseball player Willie Mays.
He was great on the field and off, inspiring millions around the world. He was humble about it, saying he was doing the best he could same as everyone else. They all make baseball great.

We have lost one of the true greats of the game. Willie was the last of the great guard of Mickey, Hank, Clemente, Jackie and so many more. Rest in peace Mr. Mays, hope you are enjoying yourself playing ball up there. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends. He truly touched our hearts and there will never be another like him. For the younger generation, I encourage you to research this legend.

Willie Mays played in Puerto Rico when that winter league was king in the 1950s. Many great major leaguers played in San Juan, Santurce, Caguas, or Ponce and Mayaguez- the great cities Puerto Rico.

my very first baseball game at the 'stick in the 60s had Mays, McCovey, Marichal and Bonds in the lineup that day. fast forward to the 90s when i take my gf to a game. after the game we are standing next to Willie's statue in front of the ball park when i see Willie standing inside a door inside the stadium. i grab my gf and turn her around to look. she starts screaming and crying. i'm sure it made Willie's night. 😢 R.I.P. Willie

Yo, MLB, why so many errors in the transcription for the subtitles? Spend a few minutes cleaning that up before you post it. Everything else about your production is stellar - don't let a buggy AI bring you down.

If Willie hadn't lost two seasons to military service and having to hit in Candlestick park he might have challenged the Babes HR record. Would his popularity have spared him the harassment that Henry had to endure .
