For those who are worried about getting "cursed", there is this general opinion where people with the paranormal abilities say that we ourselves are the strongest protection. Thinking positively, being optimistic, staying mentally healthy, doing good, being respectful provides ourselves with a very strong paranormal protection. This works unless it's a high level entity like a demon, devil classes or higher that you have offended in the first place. For those who people with a religion, it is also fine to go along with your religion prayers/practices, but that depends on your mental state, sincerity and understanding of the prayer/practices too. The last resort is to find a real proper person with the paranormal ability to help you if you are very sure it's a paranormal stuff and not a physical illness.
For those who are depressed and sad, easily angry, abuses alcohol or drugs, pessimistic, not respectful to paranormal entities, they will be more susceptible. For many people, when they move into their new house or a hotel room for vacation, they don't acknowledge the possibility of paranormal entities that might have been dwelling in that plot of land or place (because they don't know or don't believe it in the first place). Some paranormal entities might get offended, because they have been living there for so long until some strangers just comes into their living space and do things that they are not personally pleased with. Yet, people had already paid huge $$$ for their house, mortgages or rental deposits. So, if there is house haunting, people should acknowledge the possibility of paranormal entities, be respectful and negotiate the possibility of cohabiting the place peacefully. Otherwise.. move out.
I live with four male ghosts in my room. All good spirits, thankfully. I'm respectful towards them, they'll occasionally show themselves to me, and they don't bother me or scare me. I have the ability to speak to them, find out their story, and try to help them crossover at their own pace. If I get a chance to communicate I thank them for their time, and close the session and they go back to their business.
