    This was when #26 was heading to the old Fort Green mine to mine one of the old csa's. IT has been sitting idle for a few years now. You can see it if you look to your left when heading south on 37 about a mile and half past 674. The closest dragline you can get to now would be #15 at the corner of 674 and 39 in Fort Lonesome. It just recently completed mining the location so it also is idle but it's still cool to see up close. If you turn onto Carlton road from 39 and head east until it curves to the right you can get a view of #17 actively mining. It's about a mile away and still looks massive.

    At the company I retired from, we fabricated some of the cable drums for these Walkers. We also fabricated a 47 yard bucket for a Shovel. That was a rough job for sure on the bucket. T-1, Manganese and Stainless Steel. All welded with pre-heat and post heat while welding. Hot!

    Lego needs to make a model of a walking dragline. They would sell a ton to the guys that operate these beasts.

    Please repost with natural sound, kill the music. This is a really well done video, ruined by music.
    These electric draglines and shovels have a very subtle sound of the blowers, motors and gearing, plus the cables and drag chains. This is not a theoretical statement, we spent many hours around the Silver Spade and several big draglines like this one while they were working, and know how they sound.

    • @epistte
      @epistte 3 года назад +4

      I saw the Spade and Muskie a few times and they are amazingly quiet. You hear the clanking of the claims, the dipper slamming closed, the sound of fans and other equipment, but it always amazed me how a machine so big would be almost silent. The dozers that worked cleanup around them often made more noise.

    had a chance many years to go inside one while it was working in Texas. Absolutely massive inside. We walked over a bridge inside that spanned the draw cables that were about 3 "inches thick. The power these things have is even more mind boggling when you are really close to the gear inside. The operator was nice and comfy inside an air conditoiponed, sound deadened control room with a really nice air cushioned chair that looked a lot like it was made by LazyBoy.

      They can only walk backwards

    • @epistte
      @epistte 3 года назад +3

      If they would walk forward they would fall into the pit that they just finished digging, so they walk bn backward and then dig out what they just walked over.

    isn't a lake maker dredge more efficient?

    • @SkipSt99
      @SkipSt99  2 года назад

      Some mines use dredges here in central FL. the dredge sits in a man made canal, One concrete anchors is placed on each side of the canal to hold the swing cable..
      The drag line feeds the dredge assisted by a water canon that breaks up the clogs so the dredge can suck it up and send the product to a washer plant. Which can be a mile or two from the pit. 18 to 20 inch booster pumps are in line to keep the product moving. Most of the washer plants use a pit pump instead of a dredge. The process is basically the same. The pit pump is designed to move the suction up or down. The dredge can do the same and can also swing where the pump car can't. The pit pump is mounted on a skid and is placed on the the edge of a small man mad pit or an extension of the previous pit. To relocate the dredge it is pulled back down the canal by one or two dozer. To move the pit pump skid takes one dozer. There are a couple of additional dozers on hand with booms on the rear that assist in relocate the discharge piping. Usually HDPE thick wall pipe.

      This road crossing is really in rural Polk county south of Mulberry. If you were to travel due East 10 miles you would run into Ft Mead. Bartow is 15 miles to the NE as the crow flyes.
