Nice job Nobel!
We have big leaf maples here on the Olympic peninsula, we are hitting mid 40s now during the day just about 32 at night. If we dont have commercial type equipment, can we use anything else homemade to tap? Plastic tubing?
I’m on Vancouver island and it’s the perfect time to tap them right now.
You can easily make a homemade setup, before you tap the tree just boil whatever you decide to use as a spout to help sterilize it. I’ve even seen people carve their own spouts out of a small piece of wood
@@brockn5554 Im right across the water from you in Port Angeles!
@@rainkatt Nice, I’m right on the southern tip, so our weather is about the same. This week it’s supposed to freeze in the night then warm up in the day and that’s great for sap flow. So get tapping!
@@brockn5554 should we waut till the cold snap is over or do we do it rt away
@@rainkatt You should tap right away, before cold weather. The sap really likes to flow after a night that gets freezing temperatures then thaws out in the day, so it’s best to have the taps ready when that weather appears. The taps can go for a month after being drilled depending on the weather.
Great video!
Good job, best video I've seen on tapping for maple syrup and processing the maple water to maple syrup.
***Question: Can the hole just be closed temporarily so I don't have to keep drilling in the poor maple? Actually I just got an idea to basically keep the tap in but put a little rubber stopper to keep the maple water from coming out when I'm not collecting. What do you think about that idea?
I've got a few on my property and I'm motivated to get me some. BTW did you know the flower blossoms and big leafs are edible and quite delicious?
Thanks for the great video.
Do you add anything to this? Think I’m going to try it
No just the maple sap then boil it off nicely without scorching it.
What time of year is best to harvest the sap? Btw great video!!
Can you collect and then freeze the sap for rendering at a later date?
Yes freezing the sap works. Just leave room for the liquid expansion in your containers.
What time of year is this? Same as time posted Or?
I love your guys's video I can't believe that you're still only under 9,000 subscribers. I have a lot of friends that hunt but none of them were interested in videos. Mostly hunt to be away from their wife so they can party LOL. I'm sure you guys have heard of born and raised there also NorthwestI would like to put a comment on their page about you guys maybe they can help you. I will ask them first if that is okay with you. I'm sure the people that like Northwest wild and Free Will like your videos
Great video! Oregon?
You’re my dream man! You know so much!
You should NEVER drill over 2 inches into a tree. There's a lot of research in this area but basically you increase the possibility of damaging the tree with the possibility of never being able to tap that tree ever again. 😢
