i tried doing the ghost king quest this wipe and it took 12 runs for him to spawn. And im one of the lucky players who learned the bosses before 3 layers were a thing
I did that quest last season and it was hell. It's insane they haven't added that reddit idea to the game yet where there is an indicator of what boss it will be on the red gates
Started playing this wipe, 200+ hours logged. I enjoy ruins, but I agree with a lot of what you said. 3 floors feels very bad. For PvP and especially for questing - wasting 30 min to get the wrong crypt/inferno roll multiple games in a row is maddening. Lucky to find a fight on crypts and forget about finding one in inferno
I wish they had an offline mode, that way I could practice inferno bossing more without having to invest a half hour + just to get to one of the bosses...Trying to learn Warlord, but surviving all the pvp, then getting lucky enough for him to spawn is pretty low.
How to fix Ruins: 1. Make walls taller. 2. Adjust mob density/spawn location. 3. Adjust player spawn locations relative to eachother. 4. Make the match refill with players as you go down each layer (could even be a percentage of the previous layer, not entirely full lobbies). 5. Because each layer will have fresh players/groups also give expressman double the inventory space so people don't NEED to extract in crypts before going down to inferno due to too much PVP loot stock-piling up. 6. Nerf wisps and give them a different negative effect/abilities. 7. Add some better loot to the southern areas of the map so they're worth going to/staying in.

3 layer sucks, no one likes it. crypts is just better as a map and 2 layer is more fun. ruins spawns are literally broken in solos, like you said in the top right rooms you will get people with line of sight within 15 seconds of match start and then a 50/50 chance for a 3rd party within the 1st minute
One of the dev qna questions already mentioned making it so that the game total time would range about 20-25 mins total where you can access all floors instantly and extract whenever you wanted. This was only a concept and some dad youtubers already mentioned it being a heavy workload for ironmace if they decided to do it.
They should bring back the OG ruins, make it a separate town down the road from the crypts and call it ruins of "XXX". I like the ruins myself of course so my opinion is extremely biased lol I am just under 1300 hrs as well. Also, with this being based off dungeon and dragons there will inevitably be vertical play.
My biggest complaint rn is they reverted the patch but not the health. 15 health doesn’t sound like much until you realize, that’s 3 purple vigor items. I can get two tapped by some mobs, rangers 3 tap me, it just promotes MORE camping especially on ruins, because you can’t overturn or fight back, if someone is chilling in a dark corner all they have to do is w key u and you’re dead in two hits.
All the issues you address are not incorrect the issue is that you shouldnt get rid of the map they should just separate ruins and crypts again so you sweats can just go play the map you want.

Im mostly AP farming this wipe instead of PVP-ing not because i cant find ppl, i just wanna compare. Sooo, on Ruins the AP farming is completly irrelevant. Most of the times i clear where i spawn and then sit afk watching streams on a TV Series on the second monitor until red opens. (Yeah most of the ppl dont like PVE only gameplay although is enjoyable time to time but being afk for the first 10 mins of the game doing nothing?) Also well said Todd!
holy crap man... that top right area is so aids in solos. All of this aside, my main problem with Ruins is the performance. Yeah I know "just get a better pc" but it feels pretty bad when 1 map performs like dogshit compared to every other map which is fine.
Goblins is worse everyone knows the bosses on that map better more attempts and can both be done lil over half game and extract and loot unique drop in center on norms now
Tile with the wolves is actually easy to skip because there is a jump spot enabled by a pot on both sides for doublejump rogue. but so far It's really. really hard for anyone else to get it
I've played ruins HR like 5 times in solos. I've been spawnrushed in 4 of them and the 5th time it was a dead lobby. I hate the mobs in Ice Caverns but right now it's looking really tempting.
i mean the other 2 maps or worse , goblin caves is melee paradise and as a caster i just cant play it in solo. ice cave, too many mobs, especially in HR, ice cave is just unplayable due to pve. ruins > crypts > inferno is the only map i queue for when i want to pvp, and its also the only map i queue into when i wanna farm loot / AP. its the only map i play period.
Ice cavern used to be the best for PvP since it's such a bright map, but the PvE having the hardest mobs + highest mob density + the HR buff where 50% of mobs are black killed the map
One thing I do on ruins now is i legit run away from the popular modules all being located north and middle of the map and chill in the south and I hardly see pvp Maybe if they put both bosses to opposite corners of the map and added 2 poi in the opposite corners it would divide the player base more put another poi in middle make more underground sections that don't have place for people to just stand on top of you and wait

ruins is borderline unfixable, they need to remove all jump overs in the game make mobs so scary you can't open doors after running thou remove all high grounds that favor ranger and double jump rouges/druids (and I mean all of them) remove all grass and foliage remove wisps, and slimes nerf interaction speed (just for ruins existing) nerf all range projectiles just because ruins exist (longbow 35 damage, not kidding) and make it a 1 layer system
I think the 3 level system works but they need to fix ruins(mainly get rid of the jump over spots over walls) and add some quality of life changes and good lore to make going down more exciting
3 layer does not work simply due to the poor boss system and time investment to get fucked over on an RNG chance to get a certain boss or no chance to practice bosses you haven't fought.
Lol i fucking hate the ruins because of its armor scrap quest and I suck at pvp so I'm scared all the time lol. Anymore I just wait in the dark watching people fly past me through the modules until 2 minutes and make a break for crypt gates so I can pve and quest inferno in peace😂
I am a solo player and farm gold in ice cave and pvp in goblin cave. I only go ruins to do quests and it is very long and not fun whenever I have to go. I love crypt and inferno though.

There are definitely some points I agree with, spawns suck, getting 3rd partied all the time sucks, There are a lot of rooms with just too many mobs. Though you say the majority of the player base doesnt like ruins or its bad but then why cant i get a game without a full lobby on ruins but ice and goblin are lately are only half full or even empty? I agree the three layer system needs some work however I actually enjoy it, but I'm more focused on dungeon delving and looting and less pvp. The problem is this game is trying to do too many things at once, If its pvp focused the casual playerbase leaves and then there arent enough players to support the game. If the game is too pve focused the high skill players get bored and complain non stop.
ssf stuff isnt very fun to me especially tournaments. it ends up being a lot of people sniping tournament participants and the reward isnt very appealing to me
Ruins is BS but i can not say why, probab too dark. I like icecave but players dont seems to find an interest to play on ice cave because no bosses... just add bosses in ice cave and ppl will enjoy it as an alternative gobelin cave.

About no ppl in crypt they should add mechanic to join lobby starting from second floor. For example you can start new game from ruins like now or you can pay 300 gold and start from crypts(you gonna be added to existing game). They gonna add some gargoil on top modules that might slow pushing but i agree spawn points need some work too.

@@grzegorzsowik8198 I feel like the culling makes it so that doing inferno boss isn't so dangerous. You can still get attacked by another party occasionally but not every game now. I personally don't need PVP when I'm that deep. You could say the reverse and say people who don't want to do a PVE fest in crypts can take blues in ruins.
Dark and darker is a failure compared to what I started playing back in playtest 1. I hate the constant meta chasing and balance nerfs Bring back all attributes to the random modifiers. Bring back cleric smite torch toss or I will keep down voting this game
I dislike several modules in ruins also, the most fun i have is fighting Spectral and Banshee. The three layer system would be fun if people actually went down, but i've experienced the same thing you were saying where i can probably count the number of inferno fights i've had on one hand and i play in all different types of lobbies. I think what might fix some of this is making Ruins/Crypts/Inferno one big map, via what they said about allowing access to Red at any time during the match and reworking Ruins maybe. The topic of splitting the player base by having new maps is a tough one for me because I understand it results in dead lobbies sometimes but on the other hand I would love to experience some new content. Sorry for the blog but this one really got me thinking, good vid Todd.
The original ruins is my favorite map ever made. when they removed it it became ice caves. Now the only map you can really play for pvp is goblin caves. Cant seem to find players on the new ruins or ice caves anymore.
What if they did a token system, where a completion "red exit" of a map gave u a token to allow further entry. Untrade-able items saying ok, I start at floor 1, 2, 3. That way if you wish to farm bosses you can save up your inferno keys, spam inferno with the homies later?
Mby how to fix map rotation wqoul be that, if u que up, u actually wont be able know the map before spawn. Make it random. And problems with spawn rushing, idk make the models mixed up into random map, so u dont know the patern
Ruins need randomized modules as well as more monster density to stop meta comps from clearing the entire map in 30 seconds, also randomized spawns would be good.
2 ruins floors and then shifting inferno over to goblin caves makes sense imo, plus its funny to think of the lil goblins building their home over a gate to hell. Would allow ironmace to expand inferno too, and ill never say no to new modules
If they want to keep ruins in just for the content (So new players don't quickly get bored with like 2.5 maps) they should just add invisible walls. I understand it's not immersive, but game balance comes first and wall hopping to third party just breaks the game.
I like three layers. I just think they need to connect players from different servers at each layer. Also i hope they will move two of the bosses in inferno up to crypts, so that there are no random bosses. Right now crypts feels a bit like a waiting que to go down to inferno. For fixing ruins, they just need to completely seal off the wall jump overs. They could also tune the different modules to be more balanced in regards to pve. I also have another take. I wish they would remove hr. And just try to balance out pve in between normals and hr difficulty. Alot of mobs are unnecessarily tanky. The problem with that is that they become a risk to take on in the case a team shows up. Its not that the mob itself is that hard to kill. I think mobs can be lethal in terms of damage if you do not properly know how to clear them. Also clearing properly instead of spawn rushing should be encouraged. I dont think hr is needed. If the mobs are made more difficult and scale more with layers that should suffice. This would significantly reduce number of ques. For leaderboards i would rather see the rewards incorporated into quest rewards, or that they just rebuild it into a season pass. I dont mind if they adopt the season pass system for cosmetics. Its a live service game they need a steady income. I want the game to prosper and improve.

The spawns are ridiculous.
I have to sit in the dark for 5 minutes before I even play the game. Always being spawn rushed on top right map..
ruins itself isn't bad, it's the layer system that few people go there for, ice caves are way worse overall with the mob density

you just need to early rotate away from top modules or just afk 5 minutes before go.

This map is third party city and 90% of fights happen in like 2 specific areas of the map every game.
That module bottom left and up one there is a spot to jump over the wall skinny pete found it and he did it on barb

The PVP is one of the weakest parts of Dark and Darker, I say fuck it and focus on making bosses more fun to fight

I am a solo player and farm gold in ice cave and pvp in goblin cave. I only go ruins to do quests and it is very long and not fun whenever I have to go. I love crypt and inferno though.
Todd father is delusional when it comes to class balance but you have to admit that ruins has a big spawn rushing problem.
Goblins is worse been out longer people just don’t like getting 3rd partied and he is a streamer so every game prob has one if he is streaming lmao hard game made easy to farm bots
There are definitely some points I agree with, spawns suck, getting 3rd partied all the time sucks, There are a lot of rooms with just too many mobs. Though you say the majority of the player base doesnt like ruins or its bad but then why cant i get a game without a full lobby on ruins but ice and goblin are lately are only half full or even empty? I agree the three layer system needs some work however I actually enjoy it, but I'm more focused on dungeon delving and looting and less pvp. The problem is this game is trying to do too many things at once, If its pvp focused the casual playerbase leaves and then there arent enough players to support the game. If the game is too pve focused the high skill players get bored and complain non stop.
why didnt u participate in the tournament?
ssf stuff isnt very fun to me especially tournaments. it ends up being a lot of people sniping tournament participants and the reward isnt very appealing to me

Ruins is BS but i can not say why, probab too dark. I like icecave but players dont seems to find an interest to play on ice cave because no bosses... just add bosses in ice cave and ppl will enjoy it as an alternative gobelin cave.

I lowkey love this map especially if I ever decide to just fuck around on norms but in highroller it makes me want to hurt myself. I think if they nerfed the mob density by like 40% and made it the second level in place of Crypts it could be pretty fun tho

Remove solos, remove duos, remove map rotation. Can't have it with a game that has map specific quests, crafts, items,. Can't have map rotation in the game if you want to add more content. What's that missed the map you want to play? Oops wait 6 minutes. Oh wait new map in the game, now it's 9 minutes.
Bring back the circle and random portals again. Wtf is a red portal? A now non-existent asset.

as a pickpocket rogue. I really love ruins. it's so fun to play on. the problem is Druid can abuse everything that a rogue can. and still be a competent frontliner that can tank damage. heal. and jump across entire tiles.

Sorry, but designing a game around Twitch viewership is a mistake. In the simplest terms, this game is not Fortnite. PVE and looting gear are a core identity of this game; mindlessly entertaining people on their second monitor should be an afterthought

Well of course 12 people are gonna be in 12 modules. Literally everyone sweats and rushes spawns like their life depends on it. Its not the maps fault its the sweaty players fault. Its supposed to have an open feel

The game loop and reward structure incentives a certain playstyle that players adapt to. It is the games fault.
Bro it's like this in normals too this isn't some new problem everyone wants to be like "the streamer" and then now if they don't like something about a map they beg for it to be changed because it doesn't fit the cod rush every spawn playstyle. It's not fortnite quit running every game like it's a br and more like it's a dungeon crawler and you'll see there's not really a problem with the map but more of an ego problem from the players for not being able to sweat properly

About no ppl in crypt they should add mechanic to join lobby starting from second floor. For example you can start new game from ruins like now or you can pay 300 gold and start from crypts(you gonna be added to existing game). They gonna add some gargoil on top modules that might slow pushing but i agree spawn points need some work too.
Nah that's a weird ass take. That punishes every party who fought hard to cull the first floor to get uncontested loot in crypts and inferno.
@@NukeOverlord You still can send most loot thrue expressman. Also meta right now is rushspawning and 1 reason is that if every team is dead you can uncontested loot crypt/inferno and its no healthy.
@grzegorzsowik8198 why isn't it healthy? It's such a slog getting to floor 3. Having to fight a full or nearly full lobby twice sounds aids. I would just queue crypts every time. I would much rather go with the devs' idea of simultaneous floors and longer games.
@@NukeOverlord If you don`t wanna fight second time in crypts just use blue portals in ruins... right now in crypts its 95%pve becouse close to everybody leave/die on ruins... and inferno is even worse. They said they gonna add ability to fill crypt lobbies already not sure how tho
@@grzegorzsowik8198 I feel like the culling makes it so that doing inferno boss isn't so dangerous. You can still get attacked by another party occasionally but not every game now. I personally don't need PVP when I'm that deep. You could say the reverse and say people who don't want to do a PVE fest in crypts can take blues in ruins.
Dark and darker is a failure compared to what I started playing back in playtest 1.

I dislike several modules in ruins also, the most fun i have is fighting Spectral and Banshee. The three layer system would be fun if people actually went down, but i've experienced the same thing you were saying where i can probably count the number of inferno fights i've had on one hand and i play in all different types of lobbies. I think what might fix some of this is making Ruins/Crypts/Inferno one big map, via what they said about allowing access to Red at any time during the match and reworking Ruins maybe. The topic of splitting the player base by having new maps is a tough one for me because I understand it results in dead lobbies sometimes but on the other hand I would love to experience some new content. Sorry for the blog but this one really got me thinking, good vid Todd.

The original ruins is my favorite map ever made. when they removed it it became ice caves. Now the only map you can really play for pvp is goblin caves. Cant seem to find players on the new ruins or ice caves anymore.
What if they did a token system, where a completion "red exit" of a map gave u a token to allow further entry. Untrade-able items saying ok, I start at floor 1, 2, 3. That way if you wish to farm bosses you can save up your inferno keys, spam inferno with the homies later?
they could fix ruins easily, placing skyboxes to fix module skipping, rework mobs spawn, player spawns
Mby how to fix map rotation wqoul be that, if u que up, u actually wont be able know the map before spawn. Make it random. And problems with spawn rushing, idk make the models mixed up into random map, so u dont know the patern

Ruins need randomized modules as well as more monster density to stop meta comps from clearing the entire map in 30 seconds, also randomized spawns would be good.

2 ruins floors and then shifting inferno over to goblin caves makes sense imo, plus its funny to think of the lil goblins building their home over a gate to hell. Would allow ironmace to expand inferno too, and ill never say no to new modules
goblin caves has a 2nd floor in the works already. hence people keep asking for the boss to be a goblin queen
i enjoy ruins. just think that they need to either make it a standalone map or try the patch that'll let people skip floors.
If they want to keep ruins in just for the content (So new players don't quickly get bored with like 2.5 maps) they should just add invisible walls. I understand it's not immersive, but game balance comes first and wall hopping to third party just breaks the game.
I like three layers. I just think they need to connect players from different servers at each layer. Also i hope they will move two of the bosses in inferno up to crypts, so that there are no random bosses. Right now crypts feels a bit like a waiting que to go down to inferno. For fixing ruins, they just need to completely seal off the wall jump overs. They could also tune the different modules to be more balanced in regards to pve.
I also have another take. I wish they would remove hr. And just try to balance out pve in between normals and hr difficulty. Alot of mobs are unnecessarily tanky. The problem with that is that they become a risk to take on in the case a team shows up. Its not that the mob itself is that hard to kill. I think mobs can be lethal in terms of damage if you do not properly know how to clear them. Also clearing properly instead of spawn rushing should be encouraged. I dont think hr is needed. If the mobs are made more difficult and scale more with layers that should suffice. This would significantly reduce number of ques.
For leaderboards i would rather see the rewards incorporated into quest rewards, or that they just rebuild it into a season pass. I dont mind if they adopt the season pass system for cosmetics. Its a live service game they need a steady income. I want the game to prosper and improve.
