This move allows us to pick up guards in the 4th round without having the need to rush them on the field if they aren't ready. I just wish we had signed Zeitler instead of Tomlinson.
no, this means we wasted $4M and still need to worry about LG
@@davidmoore2699 we were going to have to get another LG regardless for depth. So both of you are right.
Zietler has strictly been a career RG only, where as Tomlinson has been a career LG.
I'd prefer Bradford over Zeitler.
Tomlinson had a pass blocking grade on par with Damien Lewis last year. That's not saying much, but hopefully Huff and Grubb can get him back to his form from 2 yrs ago. Plus we needed someone as atleast a hedge for the draft.
I still wouldn't be mad with us getting Graham Barton or Cooper Beebee
@@davidmoore2699 You nailed it.
Glad for the signing, takes some pressure off.
I am excited that we have a LG that's very durable. Seahawks are mending fences and that spot was certainly a spot to be filled. They need help in this draft and cannot afford to lose a draft pick. I would use Laken as a solid backup position in hopes of drafting a LG and in a pinch maybe a starter. Seahawks needs around Geno are High on the list including a stud RB to help in rotation. Future looks a bit brighter today for the Seahawks.
I disagree. I think the 2021 stats are slightly more indicative of how he plays on a good OLine. I think he’s some between the shitty 2022/23 and pro bowl 2021. Which is league average and passable starter. So it’s fine for this year and gives us flexibility in the draft to realllly take BPA at 16 or whatever position we end up at
Watching Julian Love’s presser he says that there’s player input helping to build the defensive philosophy.
How often do you hear that? I’ve never heard it, but I have never been on a football team 🤷🏻♂️
I love it. MacDonald is gonna be awesome 🚀
“We’re starting with a blank slate. I think that’s the main message; we’re gonna develop the schemes and our pillars of what we wanna go off as a unit. I think with player input, which is pretty cool. So yeah that’s kinda been ‘the talk’ the past few days.”
Julian Love, voluntary camp presser
Let the boys vouch for and recruit the boys. Love it. Shocking the isn’t the standard in the NFL.
Props to you for posting a video on this. I think everyone else checked out for the weekend.
Oh man so glad we didnt lose those 6th 7th round comp picks. Those are gonna be so important next year 😂
It's lose.
So, you would rather not have comp picks in rounds 4, 5, 6, 7 next year? Perhaps you are unfamiliar with JS’s ability to find sleepers in the later rounds?
You should be..
Thanks @@sevensolaris
Oh I am sorry was 4th 5th in that list ? I am confused. So many 6th-7th rounders don't even make the team. Let alone the practice squad.@@tomdrewenskus8167
Great detailed update thank you for your great work 👍
agree, it is workable with how the salary cap is at the moment.
Like this move, but not in isolation. Don't know if Tomlinson is starter material to be honest. We need to do more than this at G (possibly much more) if we want a competitive OL at the start of the season. I appreciate how active this FO has been throughout all stages of the offseason thus far, though. Go Hawks!
For sure! I don't think we are done there, but I will not hold his "Jets Years" against him.
I think if Fautanu, Beebe, Puni, or McCormick are drafted they start at LG, and backup RT too. So we needed a decent LG backup, too. Forsyth can be a cut, and Fant would be the #3 Tackle still, this year in this scenario.
I’m expecting a DK extension is what might be in the works.
Hopefully
they already extended him
@@rickyout when
I hope he can contribute as the interior OL was bad last year.
last year we had Lewis at LG. He wasn't bad, but we didn't want to pay him and he found a better deal elsewhere. Now we're replacing him with a guy that flunked out of the Jets.
Outside of Big Cat and the Fants, our FAs are showing that this is definietly a low expectations year. Many bargain basement backups and one-year contracts. JSMM are building towards next year, with extra picks and more cap freedom, and of course an actual year of NFL experience for Grubb. If JS hits on the draft like he finally did in '22 ('23 remains to be seen how good it actually was, outside of Spoon, JSN, and Charbs--and they were top 50ish picks), we can remain as competitive as we have been under Pete--hovering around the 7th seed. But once the roster is finally turned over to the new vision next year, I expect we can finally start challenging McVay and Shanny for the division. Rookie HC, DC, and OC--we should not be expecting miracles, especially with Grubb having zero NFL experience and likely another bad OLine. We need to lower our expectations and not expect anything but progress this year--even if it's with a losing record. This will be a compelling season and I believe will be more rewarding even we don't reach Pete's 9 win ceiling.
Hey Brendon, thanks for the video, I think this might turn out to be surprisingly good news. I was wondering if you could please check the 2023 PFF Grades, both passing and running, for Damien Lewis and Anthony Bradford. I'm really curious how Tomlinson's 2023 scores compare. Also, if you HAD to make a bet in Vegas, are the hawks drafting another IOL, DL, EDGE, or maybe even Penix at 16? Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again. Go Haws!
Tomlinson and Lewis were pretty much even as pass blockers in 2023; however, Lewis was the superior run blocker. Hopefully Huff and Grubb can fix that.
@@scotalexander9568 Hey Scot, thanks for the PFF info. I had a hunch Tomlinson was close in passing rating, because I sorted the 'locked/hidden spreadsheet like data and it seem like Tomlinson position in the list was decent. Bradford looked good too, I wonder if he had a better year than I realized. Thanks again. Go Hawks!
Sounds like their tealeaves are saying that Fautanu is going to be drafted by the Jets or Saints
This looks very good. Tomlinson at $4M max compared to Lewis at what he got, is outstanding! Go Hawks!
Should not affect what we do in draft. We still need to draft quality O Line.
The only thing this could change is the feeling that we need to reach for a guard
Not necessarily in the 1st round.
@@827dusty so you think we are still using our 1st round pick? I see us trading back some to get more day 2 picks. Deep draft where we need it on Offense. Lots of future starters available day 2. Even QB’s maybe
John and Mike must be thinking BPA at 16. They prefer experience on the interior O-line rather than sticking someone young in there and expecting immediate results. My guess is they want to use 16 on someone like Byron Murphy.
he was durable and effective with a pro bowl tackle in sf. from a jets fan he was god awful at lg. if he has good tackle play next ot him and o line play overall he can be ok I suppose.
Depth, availability, potential in new scheme?
Feels like a more experienced version of Phil Haynes. I hope the majority of that 4M is in difficult to earn escalators.
Tomlinson's last couple years as a run blocker have been very underwhelming. Might have been better keeping Haynes.
I'll trust Grubb and Huff on this one though.
We need continuity and violence on our oline 😂 oh we need backups too this year is definitely the experimental fase but it will hopefully get worked out this season run geno run hahaha 🤣
Are you sure? I thought they had to be under the cap to go into the draft
Best off season in awhile

Talkin Jets called him a turnstile and a mistake a month ago ; ruclips.net/video/x_MnGXUjXew/видео.html
Can our new coaching fix this slide, or is it reliable depth?
Schneider goes after guys that are up against it
80/20 rule
80% of Damien Lewis’s production for 20% of the cost.
Him Laken paired with the rook will be fine for this season… need to draft LG in first round
With Laken Tomlinson Seahawks will go 9-8 and make the wildcard.
Bang average player, hopefully they still draft a lineman high and he can mentor them.
Y'all need to calm down... give M&J a chance to build something before you immediately go to negativity. Cap space is at a minimum and you have to do the best with what you have...
Dk Metcalf extension incoming🐌🐌🐌
This is just an excuse for John to not address the interior OL until the fourth round. I hate it. He's not good anymore. I want a trade down, and the IOL addressed in the top three rounds. I'm so sick and tired of John not prioritizing a good OL.
I agree with not prioritizing oline but I think it’s still a good pickup as it makes us less likely to reach for a OG
two o linemen drafted two years ago, two more drafted last year, three O linemen signed as free agents this year...wtf more do you want...there are other positions need filling...
@@brianmyers4444 Drafting guys day 3 is not a solution. Simple as that.
@@thguz13 your opinion….many other teams have starting o linemen day three…..JS has had plenty of success picking players after the third round….
@@brianmyers4444 Let's hope so. I'd rather get IOL completely taken care of Day 1 or Day 2. I want a weakness to become a strength. Let's hope it's prioritized.
hes a floor guy to make sure you dont end up with a turnstile at LG somehow, 4m is kinda steep though lol
Last chance U
As per UK Maths Profs - the best ability is availability, which is why they recommend Uchenna is traded away to get picks. Theg predicted Chiefs wud repeat & say next SB is wide open.
LT's durability is very reassuring. Geno may actually get a good OL for first time with Olu & Bradford due 2nd ye leaps. Also iOL will be drafted. A trade down with Chiefs or Bills or Dolphin's seems likely now, if Fautano & Fuago are not there at 16
That the Hawks finally brought in a LG and it's a below average guy like this really leaves me worried. I just have to think the real problem is priorities in the front office
You should switch teams
I agree, and I also am worried. As usual, the Hawks front office typically does not prioritize the OL during free agency nor do well in drafting the offensive line (the exception being the 2022 draft).
@@davidhaseley953 two o linemen drafted two years ago, two more drafted last year, three O linemen signed as free agents this year...wtf more do you want...there are other positions need filling...
@@brianmyers4444: You missed a key point in my statement: "nor do WELL in drafting the offensive line." I really like Schneider but his record in picking offensive lineman in the draft throughout his career with the Hawks has not been impressive.
@@davidhaseley953 the two chosen last year will be starters from this season on for a few years imo….
This allows for us to draft a guard in the first third fourth fifth and sixth round!!!
I hope we DON’T DRAFT A FAILED TACKLE. Get a good udfa.
This guy is on his way out of the league. Back up at best. We still need to draft 2 offensive linemen minimum otherwise it will be more ineptitude on offense.
Our oline is cooked it doesn’t matter how good or bad you think Geno/Sam is no QB can work behind this Oline
Idk I would look for Bradford and Olu to make positive steps fwrd in their second year. . George Fant is an immediate upgrade at Right Tackle from what we had most of last year. The last glaring hole is Left Guard and hopefully (fingers crossed) we get a really really good one in the draft. If not then this guy should be serviceable, It does appear his pass blocking is better then his run blocking. Personally i am hoping we get a beast in the draft so we can see what K-9 is really capable of.
Cross Fautanu Olu Bradford Lucas
Forsythe Tomlinson Harris Anchorum Fant
This looks good
Go get one more veteran guard
Sounds like Seattle won't have to trade down now. They will likely not trade down now and take an edge that's available at 16. Goodbye Darrel Taylor they'll need your $4 million now. Getting Verse at 16 for 5 years is more important than trading down now.
hate this signing he's a turn style.
oof...terrible signing
Where's the BEEF?!!
EVERY CONTRACT should be 1 year...
It's the ONLY WAY you will get 100% out of ALL these spoiled manchilds.
Plugging the final hole before the draft
This isn't plugging ahole. It's admitting we're going to suck
