    I literally searching for a Bowens to bowens adapter for more then a year. And now I found it casually in your video. Finally my search is over.

    Some excellent features, like those diffusers, as someone else mentioned, but look forward to some of those issues addressed in a v2, especially at that price point.

    I get the sense that someone else could take this concept to the next level. The open COB is a really interesting unexplored tool in our arsenal. Hopefully Kelvin can do another revision (perhaps something with a more robust or built in ballast or a 900w 900c competitor). I would definitely keep a few in my permanent arsenal if the DMX smoothing and ballast mounting were fixed.

      I was thinking the same, it could be like the old par len concept. But one thing I would love on 600s and 1200s is a frosted ND. I would use that so often

      It shows a lot of promus for this company. I don't know if a lot of people would get the complexity of the detail in it's calibrations

    Andrew thanks for doing this super in depth testing! I have been really excited by the look and specs that these lights have. I'm glad to see the light engine and the build quality live up to the hype.
    Like you I think if they can address the ballast/power supply mounting and the dmx I would buy these on the spot!
    The unit is built like a tank yet the power supply seems to almost flop around.

      The power supply issue was an easy fix with this light. I fabricated a platform attached to an additional super clamp to function as a support. Works great.

    I pre-ordered the 600 version of this light and your review is giving me good faith in the product! Can't wait for it to arrive in the following months.
    Are you planning on checking out their 'Play Pro' lights? Similar to the MC pros but with the same lighting engine

    I got my one in the middle of last year, I love the light, but the controller and Bowens mount issues annoy me too. I even emailed Kelvin about the controller issue, their customer service was excellent but their "solution" was a plastic piece you put between the controller and light stand, I facepalmed a bit.

    • @gaffergear
      @gaffergear  9 месяцев назад +2

      I was trying to figure out what that rubber piece was. It doesn't fit onto the controller or on my stand

      @sebastianboyes4709 9 месяцев назад

      @@gaffergear They sent me a video of using it and they literally just put it between the controller and stand kind of held there by the weight of the controller leaning on it.

    • @shadowshapers
      @shadowshapers 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah that bit of plastic is very much one of those things that feels like an ‘oh shit’ afterthought thrown in after the fact. It’s so close to being an elegant mounting solution but they just got too clever for their own good.

    • @kelvinlighting
      @kelvinlighting 9 месяцев назад

      The controller issue was a decision to run with an industry-standard super clamp, rather than a proprietary mount.

    Andrew… Thanks for the nice review on this interesting light. I think it would have been nice to see the effect of the dome diffuser with the faceted reflector. In my mind, it’s the flat cob’s combined with these mirrored reflectors that cause the unevenness common to these stock reflectors.. maybe you can share your thoughts in the comments.

  • @joeaddison
    @joeaddison 9 месяцев назад +5

    Since the whole thing is 6mil alu plate, I might pull the side of the power supply off and drill and tap some holes to mount up an aputure lightning clamp.

      When you buy a lightning clamp it comes with a v mount to lighting plate adapter piece, I have a bunch of them from when I bought clamps for the amaran f21s and f22s. I'd have to look at it closer to verify but I think it could be done

    Wondering if that Bowens to Bowens may be strong enought to be able to mount the Aputure 600X on the Nanlite Bowens Spotlight, as it gives more clearance between the lenses. And if so, if the results with adding such distance would be even worth it...

    • @gaffergear

I am actually intrigued by their suggestion of using a wide spread point source with briese style photographic modifiers to create huge parallel light sources. Could probably be achieved with the kelvin too.
