    Aulos or auloi αυλός double pipes from antique greece, an improvisation on a reconstruction of the Louvre Aulos found in Egypt, played by Max Brumberg in south France.
    I am playing on reeds and Aulos I made myself, it took me one year intense research and many reeds and master Robin Howell helped me to get them going, there is still a lot to investigate.
    Do you feel the sound is triggering something in you?
    The Aulos are from the Greek antique and were used in rituals, theatre, therapy and amusement. All the players I know and many listeners have described interesting experiences provoked by playing the instrument.
    The two pipes are tuned in a fourth to each other. The instrument itself is a reproduction of an instrument found in Egypt, exactly the same hole setting it must have sounded l similar when people played it. Though the players were far more experienced playing in a tradition of an instrument being already played for about 2000ys in those days. Nowadays we are rediscovering this ancient instrument and its sounds and for me it is an amazing thing to be part of the people rediscovering the Aulos.....
    The breathing technique used is the very same like on the didgeridoo, circular breathing.

    I wish they had used this instrument for the Atreides arrival in Dune instead of bagpipes. Would have been even more surreal and fitting with their lore having greek origins.

      MY whole body vibrates among playing, and my only words are these is spooky action at a distance.
      The modern playing of such a long lost people the instrument relays the sorrow and glee of the past at the same time.

      after digging into it I think that the yarghoul is uniquely canaanite in origin.
      it is only found in the Levant and in sardinia (first colonized by phonecains who are canaanites)
      I did watch the videos you are good
      as for the instruments we have two
      one is the yarghoul (ancient no body knows the origin of the name) which is made from two canes with different length each. mainly Palestinians and Lebanese
      the other is the mijwez (means double in arabic) two pipes the same length, traditionally made from canes but today they make them from metals too.
      this video is a Syrian refugee (possibly syrian Palestinian from the accent) in jordan zattri refuge camp
      ruclips.net/video/VhQ5nbJ39pU/видео.html
      He plays the mijwiz and the video is translated to English
      both instruments are used exclusively in weddings
      edit:
      here is a Palestinian playing a traditional folkloric song on a traditional cane yarghoul
      ruclips.net/video/iRv68_EEU94/видео.html
      The difference is that we bind the two pipes together

    • @maxbrumbergflutes
      @maxbrumbergflutes  4 года назад

      Mohamed Kabha I guess the yarghoul has the same origin as the aulos, there were single reed aulos which must have been very similar to the yarghoul. Most aulos in the classic Greek and later Roman period were double reed aulos though and therefore played very different. We have some ancient texts as e.g. the ones of Theoprastus that explain the making and the form of the reeds very well so we can be sure they were double reeds.

      Modern Ninja this is one of the earlier videos I find it also a bit hard to listen to it, check out some of the later videos and you will hear the progress. The sound is getting better, more embouchure and control on the reeds.

    I guess the Indian Algoza Double flute evolved from the Greek Aulos?

    • @maxbrumbergflutes
      @maxbrumbergflutes  5 лет назад +4

      Edward Lacorte may be, the aulos are the ancestor of bagpipes, duduk, hautbois... the Alghoza is a fipple flute so it has a very different technique to produce the sound, but both are magic and live of the play of two pipes simultaneously.

    I greci lo hanno trovato questa musica nei popoli Yllirian che erano nelle loro terre. Yllirian biondi ,alti erano in tutta Europa prima che venivano le barbarie nomade romane e greke dalla Siria , scuri e di altezza media o bassi.Tantissime parole greche si spiegano solo in Yllirian e anche i nomi dei “loro “ Dei si spiegano facilmente in Yllirian e anche i nomi dei paesi , fiumi etc. E questa è una musica pulita Yllirian. Questa lingua madre di tutte le lingue europee si parla ormai solo in due piccoli paesi dì Europa, ma a scuola come tante altre cose non te li insegnano. Ignoranza e la debolezza del popolo che non lo sa di essere .

      The Illyrians were not Greek. The Albanian-Illyrian connection is indeed in doubt, since both were illiterate. This means that comparing vocabulary is impossible.
