I'm about to get one! Imagine all the crazy chords you can do on this thing and wouldn't be able to in a full sized scale. Great for traveling and they're super cheap! Even Eddie Van Halen had a tiny Les Paul, who are we to criticize? Lol
I love this! I have a back injury and I bought a squier mini just like this (but no hello kitty, sadly). And it's light, portable, and easy to play with half decent posture. Its tone isn't the greatest, but it gets the job done
I bought one for my daughter for $99 new (years ago), and I am amazed by how well it sounds and plays (I also own an American Standard Stratocaster and a MIJ '62 Vintage Reissue Stratocaster)! Build quality is simple but very good (I couldn't find any flaws). The pickups output is huge, I need to turn down volume and tone to "8" to get a similar output to my other strats. Action and neck were fine out of the box. The only complaint are the crappy tuners, but once you tune it up it stays in tune pretty well and I can live with them (there are drop-in replacements from MusicLily that I read are a signigicant improvement, for around $10). All in all an impressive instrument at this price, great for traveling and/or practicing in front of the TV.
i dont really care about sound since im new and this guitar feels amazing on me. im relatively short and this guitar is perfect and the moment i got it i could almost immediately play some songs really well and fast compared to another guitar i have that’s “normal sized”
I have an older black model, that I modified to be string through, stays in tune much better. With the short scale, bends are exaggerated, which makes this an excellent blues guitar. Pole pieces have different spacing, so pickup replacement can be tricky. I also replaced the nut for one with wider string spacing, for adult hands, as there is room on the fingerboard.
Mine took to the tex mex fender pups like a fish in water...new 250 k pots n caps...high performance saddles and locking tuners... She sounds better than any Mexican strats I've ever played.... I Thought at that point I was finished With the mods and then you come along and talk about making it string through nicely done thank you
Came to this video because I don’t have an electric and I see one of these for sale locally with an amp for $100. Def seems worth the pick up for me to play casually
Over the Net is sounds very thick and compressed, not that bad I guess... My daughter (5) had a similar guitar growing up and we all thought how cute and all, but now (16) she is very involved at her school in music class and is even singing and playing socially with friends...
No 🙂 you're not crazy 🙂 I'm also quite tall and I got one of these, I did a few mods but I regularly play it at home, in the studio or on stage, every time I play it live it makes people laugh until they hear it...
I have the Ibanez Paul Gilbert Mikro MM21 (The green one). And if you check out comments about these guitars on other video's, they all say they suck, because it goes out of tune so easy. It has gone out of tune a couple of times, in the beginning, but I have had it now for a month and I haven't changed strings on it, the strings are the same that it came with. And I must tell you IT IS GREAT ! So much fun to play, and it stays in tune. Even in my cold studio, where the temperature varies a lot. I pick it up, plug it into my Marshall and it is in tune !! It is so much fun. I don't know if I imagine this, but I seam to play faster on it..Elmo if you haven't tried one. Please do. You will love it. So much fun !
Great to have this unexpected review, your playing style and using the Plexi made this sound waaay better than I expected. Based on this I'd have bought this for my daughter when she was very young for sure, but she was playing my full size Squier Strat by her early teens so the time the Mini is useful seems short (hehe).
Bought a 3/4 Washburn (2 humbuckers) for my son who was 6 at the time. It was OK to play. Took it to a guitar shop for proper set up and strings (for shorter scale - don't remember if they went up or down from my normal gauge) which all cost as much as the guitar. Quality control is what you are not getting, but if you can set up or know someone who can do it, these can be really nice. But this guitar is the only electric I play... so now everything else feels big and heavy :-). I will never sell that guitar... Luke even had a go on it and signed it. I can safely say... 98% is in the hands after listening to Luke and you on one of these!
I dropped a set of Fender tex mex pups ..some 250K CTS pots, Switch craft 5 way, some high performance saddles, and fender locking tuners... It is easily the best sounding s type guitar I have
I have one of these that was so poorly built I'm using it for parts. This thing did not go through any QC I guarantee. Everything is off. The bridge is not in line with the rest of the guitar so they tried to compensate by changing the placement of the tuners, which makes zero sense. Good thing it was a gift. I've played others that were just fine though. Good vid! Thanks, Elmo!!! The neck pickup does sound good but I bet a replacement would kill it. Might have something to do with the short scale and heavier strings.
Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles originally played on on a Mini Strat that was especially made for her. I believe that she switched to a full size after a few years.
This is my first guitar I got it when I was like 7-10 I forgot what age but my sisters friend gave it to me here I am (20) just found it and I have been wanting to play for a very long time but it is very difficult just playing the guitar in general I’ve just been plucking at the strings it’s something I’m eager to getting better at !
I don’t have any problem playing a 3/4 sized guitar, and I’m 6’4”. I would hesitate to buy a mini though because they are marketed towards children, and to me this indicates lax quality control. If they can get away with toy grade parts, they will.
@@trantien608 I know what you're talking about!! I'll break it down for you in case you haven't gotten a guitar yet: I'm a 23 year old girl and 5'8.5". Despite being "tall" for a lady, I have small hands and short fingers. And my hands are as big as they were when they were 16, 18, etc; they're STILL too small for full size. It just be like that sometimes, lol. You're an 18 year old female, your hands are as big as they're gonna get. Apparently there are many women with smaller hands who have tried to push full size, and managed to play with success, but it was at the expense of grating down the cartilage in their knuckles and having pain and mobility issues for the rest of their lives despite being young and otherwise healthy... Cartilage doesn't grow back, and you're so young, you don't need to give yourself chronic pain or arthritis now. Try to save that for your 50's, haha. If your hands are big enough to play full size, then you can play both full size and 3/4 (like this mini) with relative ease. But if your hands really are too small, it doesn't work the other way around beyond smaller/simpler chords. But, if your hands end up being big enough for full size after all, your skills are still just as transferrable. Also, if it's solely a debate of cost: Even if you weren't at risk of damaging your body, and you were able to completely learn how to play (apart from the obstructions caused by having a guitar that's too big for you), chances are your first guitar isn't your last one. If your hands really are small and you get a full sized guitar, the pain and the fact you can't play most of the songs you try out is either going to fully deter you from guitar, or your next guitar will be a small one! You preserve your health and money by getting a small one. An added bonus is that the smaller size is easier for beginners to learn on, and they're easier to travel with, maneuver and store. There's still a widespread lack of awareness on this issue, so chances are, the more you ask around, you'll still get the same 50/50 of answers, it might still happen even if you go to a music store and ask about it. I've gone through the same thing plus a lot of frustration from trying to play on full size, and I've even found that there's kind of a culture with some dudes (no offense to men in general, sorry) where they treat you as inferior if you want a small size and act like you need to get full size, as if you're not playing REAL guitar, or you're cheating, with a 3/4.... So I hope this helps you and that either way, no matter what route you go, you love playing guitar!!
Woman with small hands here. Thanks for the write up. My first guitar I got in my teens was a full size guitar and I never stuck with it because I thought my hands were too small to play properly. Now I’m thinking of getting either a mini strat or an ibanez mikro. What guitar do you play? Do you have any issues with it?
I'm seeking to get one this week, I have an ibenz gio I never play (it's too heavy) so I think this smaller size is just what I need. Im a female and small hands - also, I'm more of a drummer than a guitar person but I do like the riff 😎
I’ve been watching so many of your reviews and they’re great. On amps, guitar, and tips for learning. Have you ever thought about recording one comparing some travel/mini guitars? I’m at the beginning of my journey learning - at 40yo - and I find myself on weekends away carrying a full size guitar, not the most portable and not always I can fit in my luggage. I’ve been trying to find out a decent small size/portable guitar but some reviews are quite biased. Donner Hush ones look like paid promotion everywhere, and can’t find people comparing the Blackstar carry-on, the Vox SDC-1 mini, and the Donner Hush I and X (these are on the affordable range I guess, and then there are more expensive stuff that I probably wouldn’t get as a practice travel guitar) Anyway, keep bringing in the great content and yeah, would love if you get to record one on portable/travel/mini guitars. I just ordered one in black and white. I’m mainly a bass player, a fan of Fender’s Precision Bass, and I want to get my hands on a cheap but rare guitar. It’ll soon need some strings once I get my hands on it. On the other hand, Fender just released a P-Bass version of the Squier Mini. Hi Elmo, good try... "for your daughters". Maybe you can try a Squier Bullet Mustang. I have yet to try one, but tried a Harley Benton MS60, that is based on a Mustang and I found the smaller body and thinner and narrower neck very comfortable for my tiny fingers. I guess the mustangs are a bit under the radar because no guitar hero plays them.
Are the pickups on this mini strat identical to those that they used to put into affinity strats? I played an affinity strat a bit, and it sounded amazing on clean
I'm planning to buy one for my 7years old daughter. Or make a smaller body for a Cort G100, but then the 648mm scale length on the Cort could be too much for her.
I'm buying one off of someone now. But wanted to see how it sounds, and size comparison to other guitars. Like how heavy it is, and if it's near the size of a barratone ukuele
Hahaha the first time I Saw this beauty in Tampere the first thing I thought was exactly to slap a huge hello kitty white decal on it 😅 Someone else already done it apparently 😅
Hi..yea,here in the U.S., their coming out with the (E) edition,Elmo, Mex- Elmo'la and Russia-Elmoski ,for anyone wanting the pink one,it's not available to the public, that was a 1/1 for Elmo,ok, enough with the humor, dang!!
i have a disability, one affect of it is that i'm a short arse wheelchair user,, i find full size guitars too big so been looking at smaller scale guitars like this, i have no intention of ever playing in public so a 3/4 quarter will be enough for me just to use and abuse sometimes. have one in mind but i get the feeling once im playing i'll be building quite a collection of them. also, random, Hello Kitty was 'born' on exactly the same day as me, you know you needed to know that
Is that a Burman lurking under the Boogie behind you (on the right in the video)? Can we hear that? Also curious why the 50 watt plexi rather than the yjm Marshall given your obvious like of YJM gear...?
It is. It belongs to my guitar luthier friend. I already had the 50 watt heads when Marshall released the YJM. I've never actually tried one of them. They're not readily available from what I've gathered.
Had a look at what one of those costs. Dang! That's a lot of money. Rickenbacker style guitars aren't really my area of expertise, so I'm not sure I can help. Sorry :(
@@MrPolevaulter i know! i have been looking for something short because my hands are small, and because it's hilarious how much harder playing those beatles'rhythm parts is with a 25.5“ , in 24.75“ is easier, then noticed his rickenbacker was 20.8... everything available shorter than 23 is $150 entry level... and that 3k rick 😲 maybe i can gather people to ask for an Epiphone version of the Es-140
Guitar Center's house brand Mitchell has some short-scale strats and les pauls on offer. I got my MM-100 (22.5" scale, 24 fret, 2 humbucker, carved top strat model) used for $75, and they can be bought (used) around that price yet today; new they are around $140. I like it for playing Power Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, and clean stuff like Ambient and Cool Jazz. I am satisfied with the build quality on mine, though I am considering upgrades in the future, although you may need to make modifications and adjustments to suit your playing style, .
is this the same as the Squier Mini Stratocaster IL? as in images the plug (of the Squier Mini Stratocaster IL) is in the side not the front of the guitar
Hi Elmo! Is it possible to try the Koch Jupiter amp. I Know its not your style of amp but i would like your honest opinion.(or the Super champ x2) Keep up what your doing!
Elmo can I ask a question? I know/assume you use Seymour Duncan YJM fury in most guitars but how do you have such great tone even though the bridge pickup is so low output? It might just be that mine is broken but I bought it brand new. Please explain please. Also great vid
I’m 13 and I kinda want to get this but I fear it’ll be too big but I don’t wanna get a full sized to be to big so I’m not sure what to do because your an adult so it’s obviously small for you
to my ears, it sounded better the brief moment you played it cleaner with the tone down (but that's just me). With distorsion, it's like the overtones aren't harmonic 😕

I should be getting a nice pink one with fairies on it tomorrow
Hi..yea,here in the U.S., their coming out with the (E) edition,Elmo, Mex- Elmo'la and Russia-Elmoski ,for anyone wanting the pink one,it's not available to the public, that was a 1/1 for Elmo,ok, enough with the humor, dang!!
i have a disability, one affect of it is that i'm a short arse wheelchair user,, i find full size guitars too big so been looking at smaller scale guitars like this, i have no intention of ever playing in public so a 3/4 quarter will be enough for me just to use and abuse sometimes. have one in mind but i get the feeling once im playing i'll be building quite a collection of them. also, random, Hello Kitty was 'born' on exactly the same day as me, you know you needed to know that
I have one cause I'm a small person and it's one of my favorite guitars
Sounds like a Strat to me 👍🏻 you are really mentally strong and masculine when you use it on stage. I think I will acquire it.
Depends on the player and the foot pedals really
Is that a Burman lurking under the Boogie behind you (on the right in the video)? Can we hear that? Also curious why the 50 watt plexi rather than the yjm Marshall given your obvious like of YJM gear...?
It is. It belongs to my guitar luthier friend.
I already had the 50 watt heads when Marshall released the YJM. I've never actually tried one of them. They're not readily available from what I've gathered.
I bought my little girl the mini jazzmaster it's pretty cool
Cool!
I have the Ibanez mini Guitar and Bass. Different Stretch and Bend with 24 frets, Cool Revue Bro!
Cool, thanks!
That's pretty awesome
2:55 Yep! Sounds like a strat! Lol
my nephew wants a guitar hes 9 and quite small would this be ok? or is the neck the same width as a standard just not as long ?
Mr. Elmo what guitar would you recommend that's short scale and not as expensive as a Rickenbacker 325 ?
I got my MM-100 (22.5" scale, 24 fret, 2 humbucker, carved top strat model) used for $75, and they can be bought (used) around that price yet today; new they are around
$140. I like it for playing Power Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, and clean stuff like Ambient and Cool Jazz. I am satisfied with the build quality on mine, though I am considering upgrades in the future, although you may need to make modifications and adjustments to suit your playing style, .
It would be great if you could find a quality guitar with a short scale like this.
is this the same as the Squier Mini Stratocaster IL? as in images the plug (of the Squier Mini Stratocaster IL) is in the side not the front of the guitar
This has just gone to top of my list for my 6 year old. He just started lessons at school and is begging for his own guitar now.
Awesome Mom! What a lucky little boy. : )
Thank you very much for this video 🙂
Maasta se pieniki ponnistaa🎸 ee muutaku keikalle minillä🚙😁 hienosti improvisoitu mestari👌👌👌
Kiits :)
Lot of sound packed in a small guitar
Ha, that thing makes you look like a giant! 😂
:D
hi ! would it fit for a tall adult (beginner) ? I am 1M85 and I have long arms / hands so I was wondering if it would be comfortable for me
What size strings do uou use?
I just ordered one
Hi Elmo! Is it possible to try the Koch Jupiter amp. I Know its not your style of amp but i would like your honest opinion.(or the Super champ x2) Keep up what your doing!
Not sure. I've been thinking of a Super Champ at some point.
Hi if I were to get this, would you recommend I replace the strings with heavier ones and maybe switch out the tuners? What else would you recommend?
Not sure I know what I'd recommend really.
Heavier is better imo...I use 12s
10 gauge is what I would use
I want to get one of these because it’s my only chance at being able to play John Mayer.
Elmo can I ask a question? I know/assume you use Seymour Duncan YJM fury in most guitars but how do you have such great tone even though the bridge pickup is so low output? It might just be that mine is broken but I bought it brand new. Please explain please. Also great vid
I send it through an overdrive into a Marshall Plexi. That's it basically :)
@@MrPolevaulter thank you so much
Overdrive and a Marshall plexi can make my sneakers sound good
I’m 13 and I kinda want to get this but I fear it’ll be too big but I don’t wanna get a full sized to be to big so I’m not sure what to do because your an adult so it’s obviously small for you
This shouldn't be too big.
@@MrPolevaulter sorry I meant small 😅
I wonder if he knows how valued the Hello Kitty minis are? people actually search for these!
Will this be good for someone with wrist pain and shoulder pain?
Not sure.
You should see the value of this hello Kitty guitar now !! 💰💰
I have tiny, kid's sized hands despite being an adult. If I had a kid's guitar I probably wouldn't have given it up.
Mr Elmo
What size guitar is this
can you play chords such as a major and f on a guitar like this ?
It's a small guitar, but you can play all the chords you want on it :)
Tis' for unleasing mini fury
Haha :D
What’s the Scale length & nut width ??
Can't remember.
Well, at the age of seventy I been looking to downsize anyway since my gig days are over, lol
It sounds like it's coming through a transistor radio speaker.
Tried it at GC and the tuners are horrible. The model I had was unusable as a result. The rest is fine for what you pay for.
Wasn't John Lennon's Rickenbacker about the same scale?
Dunno.
Can I ask where can I get it?
omg i want this guitar the hello kitty sticker is so cute bahahaha
I have two of these and one of mine are 12 string
sounds like a Stratocaster to me ! by the way, your name is not so difficult to pronounce , at least for us spanish guys
Cheers :)
You almost look bigger than Paul Gilbert holding a normal guitar with that.
to my ears, it sounded better the brief moment you played it cleaner with the tone down (but that's just me). With distorsion, it's like the overtones aren't harmonic 😕
Fair enough.
Same size as john mayer's prs guitar?
Is that small? I thought it's regular size.
@@MrPolevaulter it does look like kids guitar🤣 maybe my perception is off or I need glasses.
I am going to buy one so I can be like Allan Holdsworth with a regular guitar
I play them even tho im 24 cuz they re cheap and they make me feel like malmsteen
👍
