Explanation on Linear Diffusers

What are linear diffusers, simple explanation of supply diffusers, return diffusers and how they are used in a custom home.

I need to clean the dust off the duct outlets at home but not sure how to open the linear outlet to get the filter. There are springs at 4 corners, I don't want to damage those. Can you show me how to get pass those springs?
