Lin-Manuel Miranda is the Tony Award-winning writer/creator of In the Heights and Hamilton (both won Best Musical, in 2008 and 2016 respectively). Heights was not the first hip-hop musical but it was the first to be successful on Broadway and has been adapted into a film. Hamilton has been enjoying a continuous run on Broadway since 2015 as well as in London's West End and many other cities around the world. A film of the Broadway production was produced. Hamilton won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2016, among other awards.
I think your next move, before jumping into more of the musical or anything like that, would be to see how this evolved. There’s another White House performance called Alexander Hamilton you should check out that shows the evolution of this idea into reality.
You should also check out the Hamilton mixtape where they remixed the songs from the musical featuring Roots, Busta Rhymes, Chance the Rapper, Nas, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Usher, Queen Latifah, Andra Day, John Legend, Wiz Khalifa, and Snow Tha Product just to name some of the artists on there.
There's a pretty cool introduction by Barack and Michelle before the Hamilton cast's performance at the Tony's, where they reference the fact that they all laughed but also say "well who's laughing now?" at the fact that it's become a global phenomenon. It's absolutely a performance worth checking out, kind of a medley of some of the biggest songs!
This entire show (Hamilton) is inspired genius! Miranda is out of control perfection. What an amazing way to learn actual history. If all my history classes were this interesting, I'd be 100fold smarter.
If you ever get a chance to see the whole musical I’d highly recommend. I’m not generally a musical theater fan but this hits different.

Do. The. Whole. Musical. (Even if it’s in parts only in twitch bc of copywriting).

You’ve got great hair! Sorry, I’ve only seen you in hats & this is the first time I’m seeing you without one.
There’s an interview where LMM talks about all the rappers he used as inspiration for different characters. It’s interesting
The whole musical is amazing!!!
I wasn't expecting this. It was fun.
I agree, you definitely need to just start at the beginning of the musical and work your way through it!!
That you say his rapping was off… think he had one a TONY FOR HIS PLAY, IN THE HEIGHTS, BY THIS TIME
Please react to the whole musical, that would be awesome! :)
