When I was in high school 11 years ago, we visited an art museum. My best friend bought me a music box from the gift shop that played this song. I lost my friend 3 months ago. This piece will always be him
The beauty of Horowitz' playing , and that's why he's so respected, is the power he has to "voice" the notes, he does that like nobody. In certain parts he plays the song smoothly and suddenly he plays fortissimo. I've never seen somebody else doing that like Horowitz, it's fantastic
Not only that, but he masters the art of voicing notes so perfectly... sometimes it doesn't matter if the piece says to play a note or part ff or pp, he can do it the other way around and yet make it feel like he's still playing what the composer meant the piece to sound like. That is so impressive!
I love how he just _plays_ the piece. I'm tired of pianists who drag it out with a bunch of drama. My interpretation reminds of a music box, yet it is not "mechanical".
i agree, however, i appreciate the way artists interpret pieces of music and play them the way the music makes them feel. Music is about expression, and I love when a musician can take a piece of music and add a personalized touch. Thats what i think makes music all that much more beautiful.
I heard this music in a park today. For me, this music had no title until my brain searched traumerei, Schumann etc. Before it matched with the title or name, it was just free from all the restrictions imposed by memory. It shivered through me.

I was randomly listening to melancholic classical music on spotify while reading A Tale of Two Cities and this played at the very end of the book. You know, the great sacrifice part. This masterpiece magnified my grief on that character! It was the perfect accompaniment to end the book.
I was reading H.G Wells' "The Door in the Wall" and a sudden thought to play this in the background popped up. Traumerei proved to be such a beautiful accompanist, the dilemma and regret of the protagonist and his desire to relive his childhood happiness gained a whole new level of poignancy.
I think "we're here because..." it's actually not that bad. It means other celebrities using their popularity to promote classical music which is less well-known by young generations. How good is it that thanks to pop music, people are connected by music again? And for others, it's great that you guys spend time listening, but it'll be better if you salute the pianist and the repertoire itself by some kind words.
It’s bad when it gets so persistently spammed that those seeking out comments on Horowitz’s playing can not find them. There is such a high volume of repetitive, unnecessary comments that make it near impossible to find any comments of substance discussing Horowitz, Schumann, or anything else. It’s all “I came from xyz xD look at me I’m so quirky and into classical music now xD haha k drama”
it’s def annoying when you are here to read relevant comments and stories about the piece instead of the repetitiveness of “I’m here because” takes up the majority of the comment section. But, this is bound to happen when a popular show brings a specific piece to someone’s attention. Other examples are Ballade 1 and your lie in April fans completely overrun the comments with “did it reach her?” Or something similar, and volleyball videos and everybody comparing real life people to anime characters from haikyuu. While I’m glad people came to enjoy things that I also enjoy, I am definitely annoyed with the repetitive comments lol
I agree! I'm not here from either, I'm here because of a class I'm taking required me to listen to this. Everybody can like this, it means it's still relevant and it is spreading emotion and knowledge to other people. I hate the "you can't like this because you don't like it for the same reasons I do" mindset. Like what you like and say who brought you if you want to ffs
Every time I listen to this great master playing this piece, I am allowed to be brought into a place where I can truly appreciate this world. There is only pure enjoyment, nothing else. So often I am moulded to survive this realistic world but only moments like this I can dream to be someone greater than I am adapted to be. Thank you, Maestro Horowitz.
I saw him play this in Chicago in the 1980s. Tears fell down his face. His 2nd encore piece.the audience wept with him. Such a giant who play with the touch of a feather.
A superb rendition of this magnificent composition. The early 1940s German film [available on RUclips with English subtitles] with the title of this piece of music is well worth watching, BUT perhaps with some Kleenex to hand. The gradual psychological breakdown of Schumann and the utter loyalty and devotion of Clara make the movie a true classic.
Very sad to see that the comment section has been polluted by many clueless BTS/Taehyung fans... Always linking their idols to everything and everyone... For your own knowledge, Vladimir Horowitz, the old man playing the piano, has been one of the greatest pianist of all times, worldwide famous and respected for his genius, technic and style. He wouldn't have needed (and doesn't need actually) another artist to get the recognition he deserves (and actually got). Associating him with some "lower ranked" artists like BTS or Taehyung is I think of great disrespect to Horowitz. And I don't try to insult nor blame BTS, I am just statig facts. I am even sure the members of BTS would agree with it, humble as they are. For those of you who are genuinely interested in men like Horowitz, I can only recommend you to listen to Arthur Rubinstein, who is considered to have been the greatest interpret of Chopin. Cheers.
I don't see issue here (except that those fan comments aren't very useful as there're all the same) It's nice that a very popular artist bring light to this great piano master to a public that would naturally not listen to classical music Also stating BTS as "lower rank" artists isn't objective. They are a part of showbiz, it's a whole different category. It's like comparing ballet to hip-hop, it's dance but with a complete different approach.
@@naofuj3929 @naofuj Agreed. Rather it's good that more and more young people are getting to hear this piece because of Tae and hopefully they will be more invested and find interest in classical music in the future. I was surprised to come back to this video and see so many comments by bts fans and my first thought was, oh it's nice that they're getting to hear such a beautiful piece. Also, maybe it's just me but I couldn't find anyone else who could invoke such emotions in the listeners as Horowitz. :)
I didn't come here from any K pop drama, just came here to love this piece. It's just fantastic and brings me peace in a way that I can't describe. Ever since I heard this piece on my TV, I've been tracking this down and finally found it. I'm so glad I did.
Who’s here because they’re a classical pianist or a lover of piano and have known this piece by Schumann for years and not because of a Korean pop singer 👍🏻❤️
But what if they came because of a kpop idol? good music is good music and it doesn't matter why do you like it. Everyone should listen classic music and if they came because of a kpop idol I'm glad they were able to know something like this because someone they like recommended it.

It’s really cool how simple it is, yet how beautiful it is. Tae said “like a walk in the stars” and I really get it now. It makes me emotional even though it’s just the pianist playing the piano. It makes me feel safe and calm too. It’s really beautiful. I saw someone else say it’s like daydreaming and I agree with that as well. It can also feel like your drifting off into a world of your own. Again, it’s simple yet beautiful and emotion invoking.
@@jorgenhall854 Yea. Remind me of Władysław Szpilman as well. His Chopin Nocturne No. 20 is incredibly nostalgic, sounds like mourning for his friends and family and the kind German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld... And these people live in piano, not just play piano but turns out piano and music has sort of a necessity for they to thrive and live on... they are the pianos, and they gave the piano a life.

A very great performance by the Maestro Horowitz. Thanks, Sir for your emotional music performances and be happy in whatever other dimension you are now!
I just love it when the piece flows from pianists' fingers into the keys with no disconnect, and the emotional intent flow with it, and so the music "plays itself" in a sense. It's the difference between seeing a live band play a song versus its recording (a generalization, and neither one is better than the other, I'm not trying to compare them in that way) but when someone manages to close the gap between these 2 types of listening, it's nothing short of incredible and impressive. And humbling lmfao.
Reminds me of my Nana Elisabeth in Lancashire UK, in the 1960's/70's, who had a manually wind-up device (?) that played this masterpiece over & over (money was tight for her) and we would listen to this together, as i had severs asthma, through parental smoking, and she nursed me through some tough/frightening times, playing this (not knowing what it was or who'd composed it). They were surreal times . . . . . flitting between life & death, calmed only by my Nana, and this mesmerising piece 60+years later, thanks to modern technology, i heard those first few bars for the first time again. . . . . . . and instantly wept, and wept uncontrollable tears of joys . . . . . as i was with her again, for a brief moment Music is amazing ! RIP, Elizabeth Mercer (I love you, but probably never told you) ❤
The emotion of this piece is incomparable! The best interpretation I’ve ever heard. What a consolation to hear this master piece of Schumann during this troubled time of COVID-19, 2021. Merci beaucoup Maestro.

An Army recommended this to V
Yep
I saw him play this in Chicago in the 1980s. Tears fell down his face. His 2nd encore piece.the audience wept with him. Such a giant who play with the touch of a feather.
The most Beautiful rendition I have ever heard… Watching his emotion while he was playing - Priceless!
This piano work literally brings tears to my eyes. What a lovely melody !
Coughing murdered this performance.
That human filth, didn't even try to cover his mouth.
Human filth indeed.
I only heard the music.
Oh no does he have Corona
Just kidding
Nah, this senior can make that as part of piece.
Je suis heureuse de parvenir à jouer ce merveilleux air de shumann. Un bonheur immense après beaucoup de travail
A superb rendition of this magnificent composition.
The early 1940s German film [available on RUclips with English subtitles] with the title of this piece of music is well worth watching, BUT perhaps with some Kleenex to hand. The gradual psychological breakdown of Schumann and the utter loyalty and
devotion of Clara make the movie a true classic.
Cheers.
I would recommend Władysław Szpilman as well. His interpretation of Chopin Nocturne No. 20 is heart-breaking...
I don't see issue here (except that those fan comments aren't very useful as there're all the same)
It's nice that a very popular artist bring light to this great piano master to a public that would naturally not listen to classical music
Also stating BTS as "lower rank" artists isn't objective. They are a part of showbiz, it's a whole different category. It's like comparing ballet to hip-hop, it's dance but with a complete different approach.
Yeah. I was searching for a persona 4 ost but this popped up. And bts fans are here? thats disappointing
you are totally right ...
Yea. Since year 1838 the pieces has been composed...
Meeee
Thanks
But what if they came because of a kpop idol? good music is good music and it doesn't matter why do you like it. Everyone should listen classic music and if they came because of a kpop idol I'm glad they were able to know something like this because someone they like recommended it.
@@MarieClairAmorim Maybe because people should start respect the artist's space and stop spamming their name? Like, you're under a Schumann video, why should you write "Oh mY GaWd I cAmE hErE fOr kPop" , seriously...
Honestly the best pianist who has played this piece I have ever seen. Horowitz is truly a grand master of piano. May he rest in peace ❤

This is and will be forever the best piano song that I've ever heard.
Pure emotion in his play you can feel it in every note ....wonderful
Even if I have heard this piece before (and with Horowitz this is a treat), I am here because in Haruki Murakami's "Colorless Tzukuru and his Years of Pilgrimage" this is the piece that Aka (Red) remembers of Shiro (White) the most. Tzukuru on the other hand remembers Litz's "Le Mal du Pays". Hope you are well and safe during this pandemic!!!
Morceau magnifiquement interprété .. Sublime... Merci pour ce Bonheur de pouvoir l'écouter..🌹
If everyone could listen to this, world peace would be possible. I can't conceive of greater beauty than this.
Sea como sea que vinimos parar aca.
La música , lo que toca el señor es una joya y trasmite armonía asi que no solo digan tae tae weverse sino apresiemos el trabajo del señor kamsa-hamnidá
I saw this giant of piano at Scala in Milan....in the gallery.
This Traumerai will remain in my heart forever. Forever.
Great piece of music ! Horowitz used to play this piece at the end of all his concerts in memory of his daughter passed away in her youth !! Very moving !
It’s poetry without words.
@@kew884 Poetry without words ❤wow
Is there any artistic expression that has come closer in range of perfection than this? Vladimir forever.

Literally so many people suddenly came here from Weverse.
I'm guilty of this too, but damn this man is talented. I love it!
He's seen as one of the greatest pianists of all time, so remarking that he's "talented" is an understatement.
Beautiful piece. It's calming to the mind, but not boring. Warms the heart. Very beautiful.
Person who posted this is probably like, “who is Taehyung and how can I thank him”.
Omg! Your right😂😂(I didn't think of that) , well now he's gonna discover a new universe, the world of k-pop 💜💜😂
Nothing against Tae or fellow Army but as someone with a classical music background and a fan both of Schumann and Horowitz it's kinda disrespectful to indicate that the popularity is coming from V.
I hope I didn't come of as rude but it's kinda triggering to see Armys only commenting I'm here because of Taehyung and not talk about the piece played.
Also apologies for my English it's not my first language 💜
I was not implying that AT ALL!! A fellow army asked Taehyung to listen to this masterpiece. Just wanted to prepare you for the gigantic amount of views this video is about to get. Our fandom is powerful. We love you, please don’t get the wrong idea!! 💜💜
Well If I said something disrespectful I'm sorry I didn't mean it that way😢😊 (I know you guys talk to each other but just in case I apologize😅?) I just imagined the owner of this channel reading all the comments on this video and I thought it was funny🤣😅✨and sorry if I said something wrong I'm spanish💜💕👍🏻✨
It's okay 😅 I just find it sad? that Armys are spamming the comment section with 'Here because of Tae' but they don't say anything about the music and the previous comments talking about it get lost... It's not your fault at all, sorry if I sounded harsh in my previous comment, it just wanna see more people discover and discuss Schumann and Horowitz under a video of him playing 🙏
Purple you guys 💜
ARMY’s WHERE ARE YOU? 💜

They were surreal times . . . . . flitting between life & death, calmed only by my Nana, and this mesmerising piece
60+years later, thanks to modern technology, i heard those first few bars for the first time again. . . . . . . and instantly wept, and wept uncontrollable tears of joys . . . . . as i was with her again, for a brief moment
Music is amazing !
RIP, Elizabeth Mercer (I love you, but probably never told you) ❤
2:23 That cadence is just... Schumann. (couldn't find a worthy enough adjective.) I am so jealous of his genius.
no need to be jealous if you learn to play it yourself pal, get playing is my advice!

Man, Schumann's Träumerei still sounds modern even till this day
This song always immediately relaxes me, makes me feel calm, centers me. Crystalline if you will.
i first heard this piece in the film _It's Such A Beautiful Day,_ an animated film about a man and his mental deterioration. hearing this within the context of the movie has made me cry my eyes out every time i've seen it, and it is a song that will manage to do that even on its own.
