  • Ah hot days in the garden here in Louisiana zone 8a! I am loving the sunflowers, the tomatoes are going wild, and there are some volunteer butternut squash that I think came from ‪@bakerhillfarm‬ ! I love the garden, even when it's hot, it teaches me so much about life. Patience, sharing, and happiness is free!
    (and tomatoes are free if you save your seeds and plant them again!)
    Thank you for watching today!

      Sadie. I’m sorry to hear that. 🌻 if it’s any condolence, there are some things that just don’t grow for me some years and this year it’s cucumbers which happen to be my most favorite vegetable. I don’t know what happened I planted multiple times anyway I just focus on what is happening and I’ll try again next year.

    I never thought of using whole Magnolia leaves as mulch. Thanks for the idea. I have a giant tree in front of my house and the leaves make such a mess and they are much harder to chop up with a lawn mower than any other broad leaf tree I've tried.
    I've got volunteer squash from my compost which had my fermented food (fruit and veg and coffee) food waste in it. The fermentation seemed to make the seeds more fertile. When I added it to my garden I got hundreds of seedlings. I let a few grow. They seem to be a cross between yellow squash and zucchini.
    I can't wait for my cherry tomatoes to ripen. They are still green. I started them late though due to the crazy freezing temps we'd get off and on - long after they were supposed to be over - here in SC zone 8. Lately it has been so hot, even though I have had some of them partly under shade cloth, they seem to be in slow growth mode. The ones in full sun have also paused. Maybe in another week or two they'll be ready to pick. I have been harvesting Suyo Long cucumbers though from two plants. That has been fun.

      Yes I have also had strange mixed squash come up, Compost is so great I am glad you do it! Magnolia leaves are great, the worms like them, they are bigger to break down, but they will in time! mulch is so good in our hot climate! Thanks for watching Emily.

      @@HappyFarmsLaThis is off topic but in the next coffee video you do can you discuss cold brew coffee? Do you ever do it for your customers? If you do, what is the best way to make it?

    • @HappyFarmsLa
      @HappyFarmsLa  11 месяцев назад

      @@emilybh6255 that’s a very good question if you find the answer, I’d like to know it ha ha we actually don’t do cold brew. We just ice down our espresso for iced lattes or iced Americano‘s. Every time I’ve tried to make cold brew it just taste yucky to me, but I know for sure it’s better to use a pretty coarse, ground coffee and of course the fresher the better and then letting it sit for about 24 hours depending on how strong you like it I’ve just never been able to make it where I liked it, enough to serve it to people!
