Thank You! Been trying to figure it out for a couple weeks now. People tell you to break the fob open just to have to solder the battery back to the motherboard and super glue it back 2gether. I'm so broke I wouldn't be able to buy the glue let alone the soldering materials. But, I do have grey duct tape! Even the hamster in the wheel under the hood has grey tape on him. Your the best in the world.
Thanks for this Justin, really helpful. In case anyone else is interested, my old Duracell 2032 batteries (in both my key fobs) lasted less than 18 months each. I'm in the UK. My remote locking and comfort access stopped working and I thought the worse: I hadn't used my E93 that much and wasn't that familiar with its operation. I put new Duracell batteries in both keys when I bought the car about 2 years ago so I thought that was that. However in desperation I thought I'd check the batteries just in case. Yep, both were dead! Put in new Panasonics and all is working again. I must say I was getting cheesed off using the emergency key to unlock, then leaping in to cancel the alarm each time! Thanks again.
Thanks sir. Did not know my bmw key was comfort one. Discovered that just now after watching your video. Pulled the old battery and tomorrow will replace it with new one. Thanks !
Serendipitously happened to have a CR2032 lying around and needed this done. Thank You Kindly Sir! Also need a CR2450 for my F30, been struggling to find one though...
Thank you so much for this video!! I had just recently sent of my comfort access key along with my cas unit to be programmed to a new msd81 dme. Got it back and was super bummed out that the key wasn't working....... bmw was quoting $500 for another key........... you just saved me $495 😲💯
Thanks for the video--wasn't sure how to open it on my own. Extra tip for ultra-lazy people like me who can't be bothered to walk to the toolkit for a screwdriver--the narrow tip of the emergency key can also do the screwdriver part of prying up the cover.
what you mean by this video won't do you any good what could happen? Asking because I do have comfort access(not working) however when I put the key in its place where it sits, it charges so uh unsure help pls
Does that work with all E90 320i, 2011 models as well as my dashboard comes up with the fob logo showing battery Pic. How would I know if it's comfort access or not?
Comfort Access means you can unlock the door and start the car with the key in your pocket. Meaning you don't have to press the unlock button on the key, or insert the key into the dashboard to start the car.
Hey man, we got a "new" key from dealer when we bought our 2011 328xi. Intermittently the unlock button won't work, I try the lock and trunk button and both work. My other key then will also unlock the car when this is happening. Is this a low battery or does that button need replacing?
That means yours is the rechargeable version. If it's no longer holding a charge, you will need to have the key replaced by the dealership. Technically there is a way to break the seal on the key and solder in a new battery but most people just have it replaced.
@@justinbuice Thanks so much for the reply! Do you know how the batteries are recharged? I have two sets of keys and noticed that one lost its charge over the winter while the car was parked. I'll price the dealership and watch a quick solder video to see if it's outside my technical capabilities lol Thanks again!
My battery is fine but I want to replace it with an new one anyway. Will any of the settings be reset or changed? One more question, my other E90 has the rechargeable battery, why did BMW stop making this design?
Changing the battery wont change any settings. Whether you have a rechargable battery or not depends on if you have Comfort Access or not. The rechargable key (which is standard) charges itself when you put it in the dashboard. But since with Comfort Access you never have to take the key out of your pocket, the rechargable key wouldn’t have worked
Hey man love your videos. You should do one on how to program your key fob or car? To open your windows with the fob. Mine is not working for some reason. Keep up the good work. You got my sub!
mines a 07 and i never had an issue with it... worse case u can prob look on eBay for a replacement and all it is a wire... one u pop that little square piece out
It just happened to mine. I fixed it wasn't that much work, but now it's not the same as it use to be. I've heard it's pretty common so be careful don't push down to hard or else it will fall down.
maybe a silly question?? since the battery is being removed does the remote need to be reprogrammed? or is it just simple swap and go great video! You have so many that are quick helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

replaced my battery and it didn't work, it sometimes works usually when car battery reprograms but recently no work at all. has anyone experienced this? i have a 08 3 series comfort access.
Why would 173 people dislike this video? Nice work man clear and to the point. I was about to buy a whole key. I'm going to try this out today
Probably all Audi owners dude.
Probably because they have the one that’s harder to get off like mine in my 08 528i😕

Question: one if the key pods were left in pants pocket and washed and dried. Now does not work. Answers?
try letting it dry out for a few days and put a new battery in. It's possible that the key fob is ruined though
Thx so much, was literally trying to pry open the plastic from the sides before i came across this!
Best video for this key fob. Thanks
Thank you for taking the time for the video!
You made my life so much easier! Thank you!
This is the first video about battery replacement. Nice one 😀

Should i code the key when i switch the battery or everything will be working „plug n play” ?
you don't have to do any coding. Just swap the battery

Excellent video. Thank you
Lucky! Wish I had Comfort access! Armando from BMW is waiting for my message so he can just order me a new key when mine tanks lol
I heard they are expensive. I guess if you pay the price for comfort access, they give you a break on the battery :D
Justin Buice Not too shabby through Armando since he gets that stuff a wholesale prices and they arrive in the mail to you already coded to your VIN 😀
How much ?
I need his number
A question is not deprogrammed the key? since I changed the control of a Jetta and the key was deprogrammed and didn't want to turn on

Great vid.. hey my comfort access doesn't lock the car at times when walking away from the car. Is that due to battery being low?

thank u!!!!
once my e90 comes body shop gonna change it.. was wondering why it won't unlock unless I'm really close to it
that could be it. When the key fob battery gets really low, you will also get a reminder on your dashboard to replace it.
