shocked when i read the original liner ... kanye would of course remember some long ago time when he heard Vic sing and made sure to call him for this. Brings in Sia who has the voice of a siren from wherever place your mind wants to go over this haunting beat ... kanye decides to take it to a very personal level, describing in short order how we all feel about our pasts - our hookups/breakups/regrets - but how maybe we could still stick together b/c we love each other and that's all that matters. The line about him being surrounded by thugs ... I mean Yeezy was in the 40/40 club with Jay and Beanie wearing pink polos and just goofing off. Now he's one of the most important figures in popular culture and hip hop music that's ever lived. My old buddy to this day texts me once a year or so and says, "remember that day you were watching MTV and saw the Thru the Wire video and you called me and said 'Bob you gotta go download Kanye West - like every song?" ... "I said yea dude, it was the best concept song I'd heard in years ... he said, "you knew all along where Kanye was going."
Glad to say I never left the ship even when he spoke his mind about stuff ... scars and all (i've got my own certainly), Kanye has managed to make so much beautiful GD music with so many unique artists and concepts that I wonder sometimes whether there is a God up there hand-picking certain people to get the chance to change the world. But then I remember Ye telling us early on, "lock yourself in a room doing 5 beats a day for three summerrs, that's a DIFFERENT WORLD like Cree Summers ... I deserve to do these numbers ... the kid that made that, deserves that Maybach, so many records in my basement I'm just waiting on my spaceship." The damn ship still hasn't landed in 2019.
