  • Welcome back everyone to my blind Let's Play of Disco Elysium the Final Cut!
And still here we are talking to Joyce about the ways of the world. Honestly, I really enjoy the in-game conversations I'm having with her. Lots of world-building and learning how things outside the game's boundaries are functioning. Really gives a lot of environmental life and personality.

The Pale is visible in the title screen.
It is the rolling mist on the background of the horizon, that should be the 'porch collapse'

Really? I thought it was just a bank of dark clouds this whole time. Makes it a bit more menacing now that I know what it is.

JAMAIS VU was the thought thay was supposed to help you get for a +20 bonus to the white check to ask Joice about the world. Since you rolled for it normally, you don't need JAMAIS VU anymore, as its most significant bonus is to give you that bonus and redirect you to Joice again. The question about the world and the pale is, metanarratively speaking, the most important thing for the players to discover in the opinion of the developers. What do you think of that?

I can see the developers seeing it as a very important detail for world-building. I mean, just learning of it does help kind of explain why the world seems to have weak technological advancements in some aspects. Even though it's a part of the game's past, a computer that uses tape to read and record information?
But I really do love the world-building that's in this game. My current build of an encyclopedic Harry definitely works well for me. I don't remember the last time I've learned so much meta-information about a game. I get some don't like it; my best friend doesn't. But I definitely love it!

Though the world resembles parts of our own, and the continents are similar to areas of our globe, it isn't 1:1. Insulinde/Revachol aren't really Europe, probably more like America? Revachol is a melting pot and only discovered later in the history of this world. America obviously isn't a perfect comparison, but that's what I mean by it not being completely like our own Earth.
