    Had a very smart rat avoid every type of trap that I set to catch it for over a year.
    I watched this video, bought a black cat trap and licourice allsorts.
    Caught three large brown rats with it in under 24 hours!!
    Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

      Ok, let’s see if we can help you.
      Firstly remember that these are rat traps….but they will catch field mice (not house mice usually).
      2. You must be patient. When we set these traps we leave them, undisturbed, for 7 days.
      3. Do not put too many oats on and around the trap. If you do the mice/rat will just eat the oats and not risk the main bait.
      4. Sometimes we bait the traps for a week but don’t set the trap. This means the target pest gets more confident.
      5. Be patient. It’s s bit like fishing.

      @@mra4539 you need to work out if it’s rats or mice.
      These traps are for rats not mice!
      They will catch field mice but rarely house mice.
      Identify what the rodent is before criticising the trap 😊
      It’s not the trap’s fault if you’re adkiit to do what it’s not designed to go.

    Wow - bought 2 and caught 2 large black rats within 2 days of setting up. Heart racing setting up and trying not to trigger while slotting into a vent! The oats and Allsorts did the trick brilliantly - Thanks for the vid - p.s I found the height of the Allsort can prevent latching, just make one layer sugar and one layer liquorice and it latches fine ;)

    Do you ever use meat/fat baits? In my experience, brown/Norway rats, in particular, can't resist meat, raw or cooked.
    All-sorts clearly work, but I've had far better results when I rotate a series of different baits or combinations of baits, to interest as large a % of a rat population as I can.
    Have you ever experimented with a salty bait? Would oats+salt be a hit?
    Cheers from New Zealand!

    • @PestInterceptors
      @PestInterceptors  Год назад

      The problem with meat and fat is that they ‘go off’ and you get a stinky situation going on.
      You should find, because of conditioned learning, that once the alpha rats start to eat something then all the other rats in that family group will follow their lead.
      We do however use many other baits too. A favourite is to use those bird food fat balls and blocks. Many rodents are already eating them as people love to feed the birds and it makes a free food source for the rats.
      I think temperature and other nutrients in the local area also affect their eating. In the winter they like high fat and calorie foods. In the summer they prefer water containing foods.
      Hope this helps.
      Love the fact that you are on the other side of the planet!!!!

      @Danielwood30 Always be patient with traps and rats. We never move or rebait traps until 7 days has passed. The rats take time to build confidence. Give them time. (Maybe buy more traps. We have them in deal bundles on our shop. On a typical rat job we use lots.)

    Thanks for this video. Really informative and a great tip with the licorice. I have caught 2 rats in the last week having spotted 1 in the garden.
    Question, do mice also go for licorice? I ask because there have been 3 nights when most of the oats have been left and the licorice only nibbled. The nights I got the rats almost everything was gone. Should I place mouse traps as well given i know something is in the area? Cheers for any advice

    • @PestInterceptors
      @PestInterceptors  Год назад

      It’s a pleasure @richd1047 we love to help our viewers 😊
      If you are trapping outdoors for either rats or mice please make sure the traps are in a tunnel or bait box to stop non target animals getting caught or harmed.
      House and field mice will eat liquorice. House mice will tend to nibble it away and not set off the trap though!
      Bigger rats will be very cautious of taking the big bit of the bait though.
      We have a video coming out soon of how we trick tricky rats by baiting and not setting the traps for a week and then setting the traps a week later once they were confident.
      But if you look in our trail cam playlist, whilst that video comes out, you can see how big rats will vacuum up the oats getting closer and closer to the main bait.
      Hope this helps.

      @Pest Interceptors thanks for your reply and information. The trap was inside a shed so no need to box it but will ensure if placed outside I used a bait box. I can't believe these pests go nuts for licorice, hopefully the problem will be gone in the next few weeks 🤞.

    I see the comment about using outside, which i also need to do. However, what is the tunnel you speak of? How is best to locate these outside please?

    • @PestInterceptors
      @PestInterceptors  5 месяцев назад +1

      @stuu3270 a tunnel is used in this case to keep non-target animals away from the trap. The tunnel can be in the form of a purpose built plastic box (the ones designed for these are extremely expensive sadly! So expensive we don’t stock them and we don’t think the design is good either, we only sell what we use) I can send you a link though if you like.
      A better and much more cost effective way of using a tunnel is to build one from bricks and stones or planks of wood. Pile them up around your trap and make sure the holes to get through the tunnel at only big enough for a rat.
      You could also make a wooden box yourself and cut a rat sized hole on each end of the box.
      Hope that helps.

    • @PestInterceptors
      @PestInterceptors  Год назад

      They must be in a tunnel if outside. If it is inside a building you don’t need a tunnel. (As long as you are certain no non target animals can get in the building).
