When RUclips gets more and more professional, with productions similar to TV, this One Take concept is the right way to go. I don't want TV, I want to come close to the content and that is what RUclips is (or was) about.
EMMHMMS If you want TV, Drive TV just launched, and for the $4/month you get a 30-minute television episode (on RUclips) of course, with no ads, every tuesday. Much better formula than what we did in 2014, and everyone seems to be enjoying it. But yeah, this stuff has a certain charm to it.
TheSmokingTire I was admittedly against the whole Drive+ thing at first; I have become so used to free content that I instantly judged it as being not worthy of the payment but looking back I have enjoyed many Drive videos more than I have enjoyed a lot of other things I pay even more for. I really started thinking about it after watching the Joe Rogan podcast with Chris Harris. Going to finally give it a try now; sorry for being so uptight! p.s. Kirk Bümmer Well, the MINI was originally supposed to be that somewhat inexpensive but fun car to toss around. The price of a MINI these days is very high for what you get. That Fiesta is extremely fun to drive and relatively inexpensive as well. You miss out on the customization of your car but that doesn't matter to most people these days. The numbers aren't too impressive but that doesn't matter much when it comes to just fun factor.
Travis and Matt. You guys rock! One of the better "One take videos". I could sit back and just enjoy two car guys having a nice, natural, fun and interesting chat about cars/Mini`s. Nice car Travis, enjoy it. :)
It's kind of hilarious to see two enormous guys crammed into a Mini. Thank god the engine has substantial torque to pull all that and still manage to get some speed.
Great content. Real car people in real cars. Matt u said it well "I usually only drive new cars." By doing these viewer car vids it makes us feel like we are passable humans again. If I buy a car that has less than 100k miles I feel like it is a new car, but I also tend to drive reliable cars I buy for $1000. And I appreciate how you give a frame of reference compared to your fiesta or other cars.
Nice work on pumping out content Matt; really liking the idea of taking people's rides out for a drive.. Even though some maybe a little sketchy lol. Do you have an active website? I'd try and implement a lend me your ride section specially if you're going to be traveling around and have new scenery etc. Just my two cents for a chance to drive other places/rides on the road

TheSmokingTire i have a 2010 Mini Cooper S which is completely stock and I have never had any issues driving it in the snow in Canada with traction control on. Even in major snow storms. I do drive it also in the snow with the Traction control off and do agree its more fun.. but I've never gotten stuck going up a hill or what so ever with it on. its just a friendly comment to what u and travis said about the mini traction control. Great video. and looking forward to seeing more :)
My thoughts as well. I have a 2004 Cooper S and even before the tune it was unstoppable in the snow with snow tires on it, even with traction control on. If you want to get stuck, try driving in the snow in a Prius. Very aggressive traction control and IT CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. (There is a disable procedure but it must be performed in P gear at a full stop, it is for diagnostic purposes only)
Really miss my R53. Just like Matt's, no sunroof, with OEM LSD, Recaro Pole Position and 4 pots. That is the basic recipe for R53 & R56. Lift off over steer heaven
Owner of 2 r56s, traded in a 90k mile for a 36k mile, they absolutely fall apart and rattle. Even the 36k (now around 38k), already getting creaks and rattles inside. Love these cars to death tho so much fun even at the non-S level
I spent many enjoyable years in a modified r53, and while it was as stiff as anything I ever have seen or driven, I miss it a lot. I didn't mod it into really high power, but it had a bit more power and springs, shocks, and sway bars on it, and it was great fun like that. I will comment that with the CAI and pulley set up I had, I *loved* the whine the supercharger produced, more than I think I'd enjoy the BOV noise.

I love driving my R53 in those canyons :). Turbo is all nice and all but I've always loved the whine of a supercharger when it winds up to red line through the turns.
They're really fun cars. Really want to drive one of the turbo S models at autoX, haven't had that opportunity yet, they seem great, but big guys like myself look a little goofy stepping out of them, haha.
@ Travis, all Turbo Cooper S's burn oil, even mine. which is an 08 with 80 000km's. Knocking is also an issue on the N14 motor, this is due to pre-ignition and heat issues. Dont stress, keep driving it.

If you ever care to drive a resto-mod 1st Gen Bronco (and find yourself in the midwest) thats the business I'm in. lol. I sold my 03 Cooper S with 50k miles for 5500 about a year ago in the US. It was a great car in good shape no rattles. So sad... Yes I hate that they are getting bigger! I say that they will be making a new mini mini to get back to the smaller car. Whats even more crazy is that in Japan they start at 35k, and I see them quite often and they have 4 doors. (Japanese equivalent not exchange rate) To put it in perspective you can get a Honda crossover hybrid for 27k here. Still I see more Minis than the Honda. lol
Wish I lived closer, I've got an r53 MINI running nitrous. Probably the only MINI on spray that you'll ever see, would love to let you take it out on one of these runs.

Definatly agree on no sunroof as well, but still looked fun to drive. I guess with this light a car, the only deciding factor between forced induction is price? Or were the price tags close to the same (tc vs. sc)?
I have always wanted a mini cooper, ever since high school i ended up getting a honda cvic lx 05 put full bolt ons had it for 4 years then sold it and got a new 350z 2007 and had it ever since and love it full bolt ons and everything but i have a feeling my next car will be a mini cooper or a mazda speed 3 . maybe even a honda civic SI but the new ones like 2012-2015

This made me miss my '08 MCS. Awesome cars, but engine trouble with the timing chain (cost $3k for mine) and the amount of oil they consume is not pleasent. A truly fun car for the price

Lol, my type of guy. I also believe small cars should stay small.. Cars do seem to be getting bigger, and if I had a mini coop I would delete the back seats as well. Corvette seems to be getting bigger for a while, but now I think there back on track.

Might sound weird, but what if you brought the DMC up to Angeles Crest? It's not tight, like the Snake, so the brakes and tires wouldn't get beat up and being mid-engined it should be fun to run it here once.
vtr0104 the delorean is really a crap canyon car. It can do it, but it's won't be an enjoyable experience. Dynamically, it's just not very good aside from the sound of the engine. It's really just a cool cruiser for the PCH and around LA.

Had mine (R57) since April and love it except for one thing. With 18 nch rims on an already very stiff ride it skipe over bumps on turns. It's a little disconcerting for a car that's renowned for its handling. If I had a choice I would go with 17s or 16s in an effort to soak up a few of those bumps that otherwise would skip or rattle you in your seat.
+Bing Bong I have 17s on mine and it still skips over bumps really badly, I reckon my old E46 was real world faster on bumpy twisty roads because it was more supple over the bumps! even though the Mini would destroy it on smooth roads. It's more to do with the runflat tyres (tires) than the size of the wheel and although dropping to 17s will help... getting rid of the run flats and carrying a repair kit and a compressor will help more (IMHO)... When I last changed my tyres I went from Dunlop SP sport 01 run flats to Continental sport contact 3 SSR runflats which are a lot less harsh (50mile run flat capable instead of 100mile) and they improved things a fair amount but next time I'm going to get rid of the run flats totally and fit normal tyres, which all the Forums report makes it seem like a different car (I would have done so last time but I needed to replace tyres short notice on Christmas Eve so my options were limited!) Enjoy your car though, they're excellent and mine still makes me smile every time I drive it (Despite it now needing a de-coke at just over 60K miles!)
Are you planning to do any more in CT? I'm in RI and have no issue for the drive if you'd want to horse around in a slow car that makes some louder noises. It is one of the few stock height modern Civic Si's left. Also I have a fourth brake light for safety's sake.
I always wanted a Mini for myself but then I compared it to cars like the Mazda Speed3 and Focus/Fiesta ST and the Mini lost its allure to me once I saw the price.

Man that was the first time I saw a slow driving car pull aside on any road, in Videos and real life.
Install an wind-deflector for your sunroof, it should help to reduce the noise.

Lol, my type of guy. I also believe small cars should stay small.. Cars do seem to be getting bigger, and if I had a mini coop I would delete the back seats as well. Corvette seems to be getting bigger for a while, but now I think there back on track.

vtr0104 the delorean is really a crap canyon car. It can do it, but it's won't be an enjoyable experience. Dynamically, it's just not very good aside from the sound of the engine. It's really just a cool cruiser for the PCH and around LA.

The new 1.5 turbo with a tune makes almost as much as the old stock turbo and supercharged units.

Had mine (R57) since April and love it except for one thing. With 18 nch rims on an already very stiff ride it skipe over bumps on turns. It's a little disconcerting for a car that's renowned for its handling. If I had a choice I would go with 17s or 16s in an effort to soak up a few of those bumps that otherwise would skip or rattle you in your seat.
+Bing Bong I have 17s on mine and it still skips over bumps really badly, I reckon my old E46 was real world faster on bumpy twisty roads because it was more supple over the bumps! even though the Mini would destroy it on smooth roads.
It's more to do with the runflat tyres (tires) than the size of the wheel and although dropping to 17s will help... getting rid of the run flats and carrying a repair kit and a compressor will help more (IMHO)...
When I last changed my tyres I went from Dunlop SP sport 01 run flats to Continental sport contact 3 SSR runflats which are a lot less harsh (50mile run flat capable instead of 100mile) and they improved things a fair amount but next time I'm going to get rid of the run flats totally and fit normal tyres, which all the Forums report makes it seem like a different car (I would have done so last time but I needed to replace tyres short notice on Christmas Eve so my options were limited!)
Enjoy your car though, they're excellent and mine still makes me smile every time I drive it (Despite it now needing a de-coke at just over 60K miles!)

Are you planning to do any more in CT? I'm in RI and have no issue for the drive if you'd want to horse around in a slow car that makes some louder noises. It is one of the few stock height modern Civic Si's left. Also I have a fourth brake light for safety's sake.

I always wanted a Mini for myself but then I compared it to cars like the Mazda Speed3 and Focus/Fiesta ST and the Mini lost its allure to me once I saw the price.
